Effectiveness of Nurse-Led Education and Telehealth on Mental Health in Chronic Disease in Saudi Arabia: A Systematic Review

    Get PDF
Background: Depression, anxiety, and chronic pain are highly prevalent among ambulatory patients and significantly impair their quality of life. Nurse-Led Education (NLE) and Telehealth (TH) interventions have emerged as promising strategies to address mental health challenges in outpatient settings. However, evidence comparing the effectiveness of these two approaches remains inconclusive, especially in culturally sensitive contexts like Saudi Arabia. Objective: To systematically review and compare the effectiveness of NLE and TH interventions in improving mental health outcomes—depression, anxiety, and pain—among ambulatory patients, and to explore the mediating role of anxiety. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar from 2010 to 2024. The review adhered to PRISMA guidelines. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental designs, and systematic reviews evaluating NLE or TH interventions for adult outpatient populations. Outcomes of interest included depression (measured by PHQ-9), anxiety (STAI), and pain (VAS). Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane RoB tool and ROBINS-I. Data synthesis was narrative due to heterogeneity in study designs. Results: Of 1,124 records identified, 21 studies met inclusion criteria. Telehealth interventions were associated with significantly greater reductions in depression and pain scores compared to NLE. Anxiety was effectively managed by both interventions, with comparable outcomes. Several studies demonstrated that anxiety served as a key mediator in the relationship between intervention type and improvements in depression and pain. Cultural context, digital access, and patient preferences significantly influenced intervention effectiveness. Conclusion: Both NLE and TH interventions are effective in improving mental health outcomes in ambulatory patients. Telehealth offers greater flexibility and impact on depression and pain, while NLE provides culturally grounded peer support, particularly valuable in collectivist societies. The choice of intervention should be informed by patient needs, technological access, and cultural acceptability

Analysis of students\u27 errors in drawing function graphs in three-dimensional space based on APOS theory

    Get PDF
This research is aimed to investigate students\u27 conceptual understanding of drawing graphs in three-dimensional space through the application of APOS theory. Additionally, genetic decomposition is designed for graphs to facilitate conceptual understanding and assist lecturers in planning learning activities. A qualitative descriptive method is also adopted and data collection is performed through tests, interviews, and documentation, while the validity techniques use triangulation. The results show that students with high, moderate, and low abilities have an understanding of the action, process, and object stages in drawing graphs in three-dimensional space. However, those with moderate and low abilities lack understanding at the object stage. Some reported errors are challenges in creating graphs, with instances of being erroneously constructed in two-dimensional space. There are also errors in determining the intersection point of lines with Cartesian coordinate axis, as well as in drawing and connecting traces

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the potential of bamboo as a sustainable material for residential furniture design in the Libertador Bolívar Commune, Ecuador, integrating technical properties, sociocultural perceptions, and socioeconomic feasibility within the local context. Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive-interpretative design using mixed methods was applied. Data were collected over four months from 127 participants comprising 89 furniture users, 23 artisans, and 15 community leaders. Instruments included structured surveys, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and structured observation. Results: Technical analysis showed that 78.3% of artisans rated bamboo’s mechanical strength as adequate for basic furniture, with an estimated durability of 8–15 years when properly treated. Sociocultural findings indicated a higher aesthetic acceptance among younger participants (mean=4.12) compared to older ones (mean=3.22, p<0.001), though traditional perceptions still influence overall acceptance. Economically, 73.6% of households allocated $50–200 annually for furniture, and 78.3% of artisans expressed interest in bamboo-related training. Housing conditions favored multifunctional and adaptable furniture designs compatible with bamboo’s properties. Conclusions: Bamboo presents promising technical qualities for residential furniture but faces sociocultural barriers and economic constraints. Its successful adoption requires integrated strategies involving technical training, cultural repositioning, and participatory community models to overcome local limitations and promote sustainable furniture production

    Get PDF
Introduction:Influenza A pneumonia is an acute viral infection that affects the respiratory tract and is transmitted through droplets expelled when coughing or sneezing. In the pediatric population, it presents with symptoms such as fever, cough, rhinorrhea, and respiratory distress, which can lead to complications like respiratory distress or bacterial superinfection. Objective:The aim was to identify Influenza A as a cause of pneumonia in children aged 1 year to 10 years in the post-pandemic context. Methods:A prospective, observational, and analytical study was conducted in 265 children without previous comorbidities, admitted between 2023 and 2025 at the Ambato General Hospital IESS. Patients aged 1 year to 10 years, diagnosed through nasopharyngeal swabs for Influenza A, were included. Results: 53 % of the cases were female, and 47 % male, with the majority of cases in the 3 to 5 years group (27 %). 82 % had contact with individuals with prior respiratory symptoms. The most common symptoms were cough (23 %), fever (22 %), rhinorrhea (21 %), and respiratory distress (50 %). Radiological images showed hyperinflation (19 %) and interstitial patterns (18 %). Influenza A and Respiratory Syncytial Virus were the predominant etiological agents. Conclusions:Influenza A is a significant cause of pneumonia in children, particularly in those under 5 years old, with a higher incidence in winter months, especially in February. The implementation of epidemiological surveillance protocols and early treatment is recommended to reduce mortality.

Designing a CSCL-Based Instructional Model in E-Commerce Education to Promote Academic Help-Seeking in Higher Education

    Get PDF
The integration of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) in E-Commerce education aims to address the challenges of fostering academic help-seeking behaviors, which are often hindered by traditional teaching methods. Help-seeking is essential for academic success, but factors such as fear of embarrassment and lack of peer interaction limit students\u27 engagement. This study aims to design, implement, and evaluate a CSCL-based instructional model to encourage help-seeking behaviors and enhance collaborative competencies in E-Commerce education. A quantitative causal research design was employed, using a Likert-scale questionnaire to assess students\u27 perceptions of academic help-seeking and collaborative competencies. The study found that behavioral, normative, and control beliefs, along with opportunity, significantly influence students\u27 self-efficacy. However, higher self-efficacy showed a negative impact on learning outcomes, likely due to overconfidence leading to disengagement. The moderation analysis revealed that collaborative engagement negatively moderated the relationship between behavioral beliefs and learning outcomes, suggesting that excessive collaboration could weaken the positive effects of behavioral beliefs. The study concludes that while CSCL is an effective approach to enhancing engagement and learning outcomes, it requires careful structuring to prevent overconfidence and ineffective collaboration. Educators should focus on balancing self-efficacy with realistic self-appraisal and ensuring well-managed collaborative environments to maximize the benefits of CSCL in E-Commerce education. Further research should explore additional moderating factors to optimize CSCL implementation across different educational contexts
