No full textInterest in medieval historiography has boomed in the last thirty years, in no small part because of the realization that genres previously regarded as straight forward historical sources were also goldmines for literary and cultural studies. A plethora of important comprehensive publications and major research projects have focussed on what annalists and chroniclers reveal about their own agendas, worldviews, preferences, and blind spots. Many gems of medieval historical writing have appeared in new editions or translations . Art historians have made great strides in elucidating the relationship between text, layout, and images. This interdisciplinary interest is exemplified in the establishment of the Medieval Chronicle Society, which has held regular conferences since 19965. The present volume represents a sampling of current research on the topic, including works from Portugal, Spain, France, England and Hungary in the high and late Middle Ages. Most of the contributions focus on one particular work, but the cross-sectional nature of the historiography of the period means that each has a broader relevance
Testemunhando a excomunhão ecológica: reflexões sobre o petróleo na obra de Salgado e Herzog a partir de Cyclonopedia
Get PDFHow do the inhuman forces of ecology relate to human subjectivities in contemporary materialist philosophy? This article attempts to tackle this question from the perspective of a particular instantiation of one of these forces: oil as it appears in Werner Herzog’s documentary-film Lessons of Darkness and Sebastião Salgado’s photographic series Kuwait: A Desert on Fire. It does so through the lens of Reza Negarestani’s theory-fiction Cyclonopedia, which offers a number of conceptual avenues to rethink morethan-human entanglements. Arguing for the possibility of considering both of these visual works as paradoxical mediations of a principle of ecological excommunication, this article then interrogates the political potentialities of an ecology predicated on incommensurability, anonymity, and complicity between human and inhuman forces, attempting to bridge recent debates on materialist ecology and revolutionary politics.De que forma as forças inumanas da ecologia se relacionam com as subjetividades humanas no pensamento materialista contemporâneo? Este artigo é uma tentativa de abordar esta questão através de um exemplo específico de uma destas forças: o petróleo no filme-documentário Lessons of Darkness, de Werner Herzog, e na série fotográfica Kuwait: A Desert on Fire, de Sebastião Salgado, fazendo-o a partir da teoria-ficção de Reza Negarestani, Cyclonopedia, que oferece várias avenidas conceptuais para repensar intersecções mais-que-humanas. Defendendo a possibilidade de considerar estas obras visuais como mediações paradoxais de um princípio de excomunhão ecológica, este artigo interroga ainda as potencialidades políticas de uma ecologia assente na incomensurabilidade, no anonimato, e na cumplicidade entre forças humanas e inumanas, numa tentativa de aproximar debates recentes nos domínios da ecologia materialista e da filosofia política revolucionária.

Get PDFThe widespread use of tools based on Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) is transforming educational practices across disciplines. In this article, we describe how artificial philosophical assistants and other innovative AI Gen tools may contribute to a more accessible, personalised and engaging philosophical learning. By simulating debates with authors, recommending readings and providing explanations tailored to students’ individual learning profiles, they facilitate the understanding of content and promote the sustained development of philosophical skills. In our study we also highlight that these resources must always be framed within appropriate ethical and responsible academic practices. In our study we address also how Gen AI impacts learning assessment and highlight the importance of the use of these resources being always framed within appropriate ethical and responsible academic practices.O uso disseminado de ferramentas baseadas em Inteligência Artificial Generativa (IA Gen) está a transformar as práticas educativas nas várias disciplinas. No presente artigo, descrevemos como os assistentes filosóficos artificiais e outras ferramentas inovadoras de IA Gen contribuem para uma aprendizagem filosófica mais acessível, personalizada e envolvente, facilitando a compreensão dos conteúdos e promovendo o desenvolvimento sustentado das competências filosóficas, ao simular debates com os autores, recomendar leituras e fornecer explicações ajustadas aos perfis individuais de aprendizagem dos alunos. No nosso estudo, abordamos também as implicações da introdução da IA Gen na avaliação das aprendizagens e sublinhamos a necessidade de enquadrar sempre o uso destes recursos em práticas académicas adequadas, de natureza ética e responsável
The lapidary elements of the Castle of Belvoir. Anastylosis of the chapel
Get PDFThe systematic study of the blocks of the Belvoir castle lapidary has allowed us to restore several architectural ensembles that could have belonged to the castle chapel, which has now disappeared. In this article, we present the method of analysis and recording of these blocks, as well as the protocol of 3D reconstruction that allowed us to formulate several hypotheses concerning the shape, decoration and roof of the chapel. One of them proposes an architectural ensemble with an ogival vault, to which numerous lapidary elements seem to belong, but in opposition to the style of contemporary constructions in the Latin East. As for the other, it is based on a style more in line with the architectural context, but few of the stones found could belong to it. Without proposing to definitively settle the question, this article also demonstrates the interest of a very strong interconnection between archaeologists, stone-cutting specialists and architects allowing, around the 3D reconstruction, to propose hypotheses considering all the data of the problem.

O estudo sistemático dos blocos pétreos do castelo de Belvoir permitiu-nos recuperar vários conjuntos arquitectónicos que poderiam ter pertencido à capela do castelo, hoje desaparecida. Neste artigo apresentamos o método de análise e registo destes blocos, bem como o protocolo de reconstrução 3D que nos permitiu formular várias hipóteses acerca da forma, decoração e cobertura da capela. Uma destas hipóteses sugere um conjunto arquitectónico com uma abóbada ogival, à qual parecem pertencer numerosos elementos pétreos, ainda que em oposição ao estilo das construções contemporâneas no Oriente latino. A outra hipótese assenta num estilo mais condizente com o contexto arquitetónico, ainda que poucas das pedras encontradas lhe possam ter pertencido. Sem pretender resolver definitivamente a questão, este artigo demonstra também o interesse de uma interligação forte entre arqueólogos, especialistas em cantaria e arquitectos, permitindo, em torno da reconstrução 3D, propor hipóteses que considerem todos os dados disponíveis.

Por que razão Filosofia da Educação necessita da Filosofia Antiga. Que relação entre autoridade e amizade?
Get PDFThis text is part of Philosophy of Education and within the framework of a course aimed at training basic education. It proposes to think about the relationship between friendship and authority and account for the transition of the problematization of this relationship to the classroom. The text reports on a teaching experience and it is developed based on the following hypothesis: friendship and authority, concepts discussed in greco-roman antiquity and faded in modernity, potentiate educational conflicts, which are in line with the current general change in the relational situation between human beings, where the question of how to live together remains. This paper intends to reflect on friendship and authority in order to provide axes of openness to their understanding.O texto insere-se no âmbito da Filosofia da Educação e no quadro de um curso destinado à formação de professores do ensino básico. Propõe pensar a relação entre amizade e autoridade e dar conta da transição da problematização desta relação para a sala de aula. O texto dá conta de uma experiência letiva e desenvolve-se com assento na seguinte hipótese: amizade e autoridade, conceitos discutidos na antiguidade greco-romana e esfumados na modernidade, potenciam conflitos educacionais, o que está em sintonia com a atual alteração geral da situação relacional dos seres humanos, em que permanece a questão de como viver em conjunto. Ora o que se pretende é refletir sobre a amizade e a autoridade de modo a fornecer eixos de abertura à compreensão da relação entre ambas em contexto escolar
