Impact of an intervention on the surface of cellular telephones in a hospital in Salta

Introduction: cell phones, especially those used by healthcare personnel, have high levels of bacterial contamination, including multidrug-resistant nosocomial pathogens, posing a significant risk of disease transmission in hospital and community settings. Studies reveal that these often uncleaned and widely used devices can be a major source of cross-infection. Methods: in this observational, quasi-experimental epidemiological study, we analyzed bacterial contamination on cell phones of healthcare personnel (N=80) in three stages: pre-intervention, intervention and post-intervention. An educational strategy, monitoring of cleanliness, hand hygiene and use of glass bottles was implemented, and the results of the swabs before and after the intervention, carried out between March and April 2022, were compared. Results: the study analyzed the presence of germs in cell phones of health personnel in two phases, obtaining a total of 240 samples. A high prevalence of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was observed in the screens and cases, and cleaning and disinfection strategies were implemented that achieved an improvement of more than 90 % in the reduction of germs, demonstrating that cell phones can be controllable sources of infection with appropriate measures. Conclusion: the intervention was successful, highlighting the importance of improving hygiene, cleanliness and safety culture in the use of cell phones by healthcare personne

Research and scientific publication in nursing in Argentina

Throughout the years, Nursing has aimed to establish a robust body of knowledge that positively impacts professional practice in the areas of healthcare, education, and administration. Despite this, Argentina has shown limited research development within the field, highlighting the need for a detailed analysis to serve as a diagnosis for designing and implementing strategies to enhance national indicators of scientific production. This study explored nursing research output from 1996 to 2021 in the SCImago Journal & Country Ranking (SJR) database and compared it with other countries in the region. Additionally, the undergraduate and postgraduate education in Argentina was analyzed. The findings revealed that Argentina\u27s nursing scientific production ranks fifth in Latin America, with Brazil being the leading country, producing almost 15 times more than Argentina. The predominant research categories are Nutrition and Dietetics, followed by Miscellaneous and Advanced Nursing. An upward trend in international collaboration was observed, reaching 60,66 % in 2021. Methodology of Research constitutes 10,31 % of the total curriculum hours, and there is only one specific doctoral program in Nursing in the country. The overall doctoral graduation rate (across all disciplinary and related training axes) ranges between 3-7 %. In conclusion, Argentina\u27s scientific output has been increasing in recent years; however, challenges persist in training qualified research personnel, particularly in scientific writing and data analysis. This is linked to a shortage of faculty with postgraduate training and research experience, as well as a limited curriculum time to cover methodological content

Visibility and impact of the scientific production on cranial nerve teaching and learning published in Scopus

Introduction: the study of the nervous system constitutes a generally tricky element for students of the basic cycle of medical sciences, being content of particular interest the teaching-learning process of the cranial nerves. Objective: to describe the visibility and impact of scientific production in Scopus on teaching-learning of the cranial nerves.Method: a bibliometric analysis of the articles on teaching-learning of the cranial nerves was carried out in the Scopus database between 2017 and 2021. Production, visibility, and impact variables were studied, such as the number of documents and citations and the impact of weighted citations. Results: 64 articles were published, with a production peak in 2019 (25 %; n=16). The articles received 282 citations, of which 30,6 % correspond to 2017. The highest weighted citation impact value was reported in 2017 (1,3). 13,3 % of the articles were written in international collaboration, and 7,2 % had sole authorship. The national collaborative works presented a higher average number of citations per publication (4,9; n=163) and a better impact index of weighted citations (1,14).Conclusions: a low scientific production on teaching-learning of the cranial nerves was found, with a tendency to decrease, with a predominansce of multiple authorship, mainly national and institutional. A low-impact index of the publications was found according to their citation

oai:dm.ageditor.ar:article/1Introduction: scientific publication in the field of neurology and neurosurgery occupies an essential role in the development of the Cuban biomedical sciences, which is why studying its research activity is necessary. Objective: to characterize the scientific production of the Revista Cubana de Neurología y Neurocirugía between 2017 and 2021.Methods: a bibliometric, descriptive, and cross-sectional study of the articles published in the RCNNC between 2017 and 2021. The universe was made up of 96 articles. The Productivity Index and the Price Index were used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: a predominance of original articles was found (31,25 %); 100 % were written in Spanish. Two hundred fifty-eight signatories were reported, with a predominance of multiple authorship. 65,62 % of the articles had a man as their first author. 74,60 % of the authors were small producers, with no report of large investigations. The country with the largest signatories was Cuba (206), and the most productive institution was the International Center for Neurological Restoration (60). Three thousand one hundred twenty-three references were used, 2529 in English. The Price Index was found to be between 0,00 and 0,45.Conclusions: the original articles, written in Spanish and with multiple authorship, constituted the axis of the journal\u27s production. Male authors and small producers led the scientific output. There was a marked editorial and institutional endogamy. Bibliographical references in English were the most common, as well as a low Price Index

Scientific production of the Universidad Abierta Interamericana: Bibliometric analysis in the Scopus database

Background: the tension between teaching and research in higher education institutions arises from two different processes: the massification of access to it and the increase in social expectations regarding its research. Methods: a descriptive bibliometric study was conducted based on the application of a set of indicators. Documents indexed in the Scopus database published between 2012 and 2021 were included, regardless of type. Results: the results of the analysis of the 336 documents, which represent the total scientific production of the Inter-American Open University in the period from 2012 to 2021, reveal a significant growth in academic production, with an increase of 336 %. The Inter-American Open University has demonstrated a wide scientific production in various thematic areas according to the categorization in Scopus. It stands out especially in Medicine, with 158 published documents, which represents 47 % of the total number of documents of the university. 27,7 % of the documents have been produced in international collaboration, which demonstrates the active participation of the university in research networks at a global level. Conclusion: the Inter-American Open University has experienced a remarkable growth in its scientific production during the period studied, reflecting its continued commitment to research and the advancement of knowledge. These findings highlight its commitment to the generation and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the importance of collaboration and the impact of research on the scientific communit

Can we administer Acetazolamide in patients with heart failure? A systematic review

Introduction: heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome characterized by a variety of symptoms and signs due to structural and/or functional abnormalities of the heart leading to decreased heart rate, cardiac output and/or increased intracardiac pressures. Studies suggest that acetazolamide could improve the efficacy of ASA diuretics, which could lead to improved natriuresis and diuresis. Aims: to evaluate the effectiveness of acetazolamide in improving congestion symptoms in patients with Heart Failure. Methods: a systematic review will be carried out, following the PRISMA methodology, which will include a search in Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science databases without time restriction. Results: 5 studies were included, of which 4 were clinical trials. Conclusions:  after comprehensive and detailed analysis of the included studies, we found limited evidence suggesting that the use of acetazolamide may be effective in the treatment of heart failure, especially as additional or complementary therapy to other treatments. However, it is important to keep in mind that the results of the pilot studies are limited and that more research is required to fully evaluate the efficacy and safety of acetazolamide in the treatment of heart failure. The use of acetazolamide in patients with heart failure may be controversial and requires careful evaluation of clinical risks and benefits before it is considered as a treatmen
