苦难中的友谊: 扬·鲁夫-奥赫恩的友谊
Friendship is a key relationship in many cultures. (Lu et al, 2020) In this paper, I would like to present a single example of friendship in dire circumstances. The friendship described here occurred during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) when a group of young women were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military. The description here is part of a wider study of the spirituality of Jeanne Alida “Jan” Ruff-O'Herne, one of those young women. In the first part of the paper, I will provide a brief outline of her life, while the second part will provide some reflections on friendship, which I have drawn from her experience. 在许多文化中,友情都是一段重要的关系。(卢等,2020年)本文我将讲述一个极恶劣环境下关于友谊的个例。这段友谊发生于日本占领荷属东印度群岛(现印度尼西亚)时期,因日军入侵,一群年轻女性被迫沦为了性奴。本文介绍的便是这些年轻女性中的一位,扬·鲁夫-奥赫恩,这是我对她的精神进行的全面研究一个部分。本文第一部分是对她生平的简要概述,第二部分将展现我从她的经历中得出的一些关于友谊的思考

The essay explores the prospects for Dialogue with China, by surveying the history of the Red Cross Movement in China through the four periods of its modern history. The author adopts the four propositions for dialogue outlined by Xi Jinping, and then, in light of the Red Cross history, proposes two other propositions, to assist dialogues when challenges and difficulties are encountered along the way. This sketch of the Red Cross Movement in China demonstrates the importance of patience and reciprocity for sustaining any cross-cultural dialogue.这篇文章通过对中国近代史上四个时期的红十字运动历史的考察,探讨了与中国对话的前景。作者采用了习近平提出的四项对话主张,然后根据红十字会的历史,提出了另外两项主张,以便在对话过程中遇到挑战和困难时提供帮助。这篇关于中国红十字运动的简述表明了耐心和互惠对于维持任何跨文化对话的重要性

On 9 October 2023 in Beijing we celebrated the 400th birthday of Ferdinand Verbiest who is considered one of the most outstanding missionaries in China following in the footsteps ofMatteo Ricci and Johann Adam Schall von Bell.The Symposium on “Exploring the Mysteries of Heaven with Ferdinand Verbiest: Dialogue between Science and Faith” provided an opportunity for the Macau Ricci Institute at the University of St. Joseph to cooperate with the Embassy of Belgium in China, the Yale Center Beijing, the Korean Center for Innovation and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce. This overview of the extremely rich encounter limits itself to briefly highlightingthree core dimensions of our combined effort which was in line with the last fourth centenary celebration in 2010 recalling the death of Matteo Ricci 400 years ago. From a Western pointof view, it may not easily be understandable how much the memory of friends is greatly valued and appreciated in China over the span of several centuries.While it was encouraging to see how many people on different levels of society in Belgium did enthusiastically join this event on a stunningly beautiful autumn day in Beijing–which includeda visit to the six Astronomical instruments at the Ancient Observatory in downtown Beijing–should not let us ignore the fact that Ferdinand Verbiest like other luminaries did a long time ago fall into oblivion in Europe.2023 年 10 月 9 日,我们在北京庆祝了南怀仁诞辰 400 周年,他被认为是继利玛窦和汤若望之后在中国最杰出的传教士之一。圣若瑟大学澳门利玛窦学社与比利时驻华大使馆、耶鲁大学北京中心、韩国创新中心和瑞士商会合作举办了“与南怀仁一起探索天国之谜:科学与信仰的对话 ”研讨会。在此,我们将简要介绍研讨会的三个核心方面,这与2010年利玛窦逝世400周年纪念活动的精神是一致的。从西方的角度来看,我们可能不容易理解中国人在几个世纪的时间里是多么珍视和感念对朋友的怀念。令人鼓舞的是,在北京秋高气爽的日子里,比利时社会各阶层的许多人都踊跃参与了这一活动,其中包括参观位于北京市中心古观象台的六台天文仪器——我们不应该忽视这样一个事实,即南怀仁和其他杰出人物一样,很久以前就在欧洲被遗忘了
从清宫戏看当代流行文化对南怀仁形象的建构: The Construction of the Image of Verbiest in Contemporary Popular Culture
In recent years, due to its frequent appearance in “Chinese court dramas”, especially in those focused on the Kangxi emperor, the image of Verbiest has moved from historical documents to the proscenium and gradually entered the sight of the contemporary public. Compared with the “historical Verbiest,” the image of Verbiest in popular culture is without doubt scattered, incomplete, or even distorted. This article first intends to raise the question of “who is Verbiest” from the viewpoint of popular culture, and then examines the main characteristics of the image of Verbiest presented in the dramas and the identity constructed based on contemporary experience. Finally, the paper attempts to reflect by way of analogy on how the image of Verbiest relates to contemporary Chinese cultural context.作为明清之际耶稣会传教士的代表人物之一,南怀仁的工作及其历史地位在学术界已经有较为充足的论述。然而,南怀仁的名字始终只是出现于历史文献和学术研讨之中。近年来,由于频繁地出现在“清宫戏”,尤以康熙为主题的影视剧作中,南怀仁从历史深处走到了前台,逐渐进入当代公众的视线
Sancitification and the Gift of the Holy Spirit: A Semiotic Study of 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
TIn the nineteenth century, the suppression of the Religious Orders in the wake of the definite implementation of a Liberal Government in Portugal led the authorities in Goa to seize the rich and extensive archives of the colleges and convents throughout the Estado da ’India.. However, unlike the archives of the Dominicans, Augustinians or Oratorians, which are kept at the Directorate of Archives and Archaeology in Panaji, Goa, the records from both Franciscan Provinces (Mother of God and Saint Thomas) are nowhere to be found. This article aims to highlight the potential of the Directorate of Archives and Archaeology’s holdings in order to further the knowledge of Franciscan presence in Asia by exploring documentary series not directly produced by Franciscans.

For many years Ruth Zenkert cooperated with Georg Sporschill in various projects in Vienna and Eastern Europe to reach out to Roma children who have been excluded from society. The Macau Manifesto identifies three platforms for change that can “contribute to the paradigmatic shift in economics that is already happening”: i) Subsidiarity Economics; ii) Wellbeing for All; and iii) Common Good Entrepreneurship.
Following the logic of the civil economics paradigm (Becchetti-Cermelli, 2018), my belief is that “Wellbeing for All” needs to be measured by creating a new set of wellbeing indicators where value is, beyond GDP, the stock of cultural, environmental, spiritual and economic resources that a community can enjoy. To this purpose the most recent studies have developed multidimensional wellbeing and “generativity in act” indicators that provide different measures of economic, social and demographic generativity. 《澳门宣言》 确定了三个 “有助于促进已经发生的经济学中范式转移”的变革平台:i)辅助性经济原则;ii)共同福祉;iii)共同利益型创业。
遵循国民经济范式的逻辑(Becchetti Cermelli,2018),我认为需要通过创建一套新的福祉指标来衡量“共同福祉”。在这些指标中,价值不仅关乎国内生产总值(GDP),而且还是社区享有的文化、环境、精神和经济资源的存量。为此,最近的研究已开发出多维度福祉和“成全传承”指标,为经济、社会和人口生育能力提供了不同的衡量标准
中国语言了解 "我" 由天主教启发的对汉字"我"的沉思
The following analysis presents Catholicism-inspired meditation on the Chinese characters for self-examination. It is a Catholic viewpoint, which may assist 21st-century Christians and non-Christians in their spiritual struggles. The goal of this analysis is to show that Chinese characters can tell us that the spiritual struggle to improve (ἄσκησις, áskēsis, in Greek) is inherent to the human condition.In that sense, we can see that Chinese tradition is not as foreign to Christian tradition as most may think.
