    2D Magnetic Localization Newton-Raphson-Based Method Considering Measurement Uncertainties for Smart Surface Applications

    International audienceMagnetic localization techniques present some interests for micro robotics applications using smart surfaces due to their inherent advantages, such as integration ability or low cost. However, at microscale, these methods often encounter challenges to perform with high precision in real scenario, because of the limitation of calculation algorithms (numerical stability, convergence, approximation methods) and the impact of measurement uncertainties (misalignment, sensor performance, etc.). This paper presents a new 2D magnetic localization method based on a 3D Hall effect sensor array system, in order to localize a cubic magnet. The proposed approach combines an efficient numerical resolution algorithm (Newton-Raphson) with precise analytical models of the magnetic field of the magnet to brave these measurement uncertainties and to achieve high-resolution 2D magnetic localization. Through performance assessments from simulation calculations and experimentations, the operation and efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated. Results indicate good performance of the Newton-Raphson method with micrometric accuracy, even when there are measurement uncertainties in real scenario. Experimental test realized with a prototype of 3D Hall effect sensor array confirms the efficiency of the 2D magnetic localization with an averaged 12.73 μm localization error. A comparative analysis shows that this new magnetic localization method is well placed in the hierarchy of existing methods, that estimate the 2D position of a magnet by using a Hall effect sensor array system

    A high-performance AC excitation and measuring system for on-line estimation of Lithium-ion battery cells' internal impedance

    International audienceNowadays, there is a rapid increase in the use of Lithium-Ion batteries for many different applications, due to their superiority in terms of energy density, efficiency, and self-discharge rate. In this paper, a high-performance system for estimation of Lithium-ion battery cells' internal impedance is presented. The main concept lies in the excitation of cells through a multi-sine controlled current signal, instead of using the time-consuming sequential harmonic injection. The proposed technique was implemented for a LiFePO4, 3.2V/30Ah battery cell through a bidirectional power converter, for integrating both charging and discharging capability. A laboratory prototype of this converter was designed and implemented, to investigate theoretical assumptions. The experimental results are eventually analyzed, to evaluate the influence of the various experimental conditions on the cell internal impedance

    Isolated step-down DC-DC converter based-on push-pull topology with reduced voltage stress of the primary side transformer windings

    International audienceThis paper presents new results of a push-pull step-down converter with reduced winding voltage stress. The concept of the system, where an input voltage divider and two branches were used to supply the primary windings was demonstrated. This allows to dv/dt between windings reduction and capacitive current decrease. Operation with two switching sequences is proposed and presented, which allow for a lower maximum value of the magnetic flux, or a lower frequency of core remagnetisation. Selection of switching method may be used to optimize the converter. The natural voltage balance of the input divider and the ability to operate the system with two sources were also demonstrated. The results of efficiency and power losses balance are presented, as well as waveforms for the analysed concepts of converter configuration and control, such as current, voltage and magnetic flux

Therefore, only the abstract appears on the conference website.International audienceThe recent regulation about pollution reduction in port areas promote the development of electric ships, at least to operate with no fuel during approaching and departing. The paper presents the analysis of different energy storage alternatives for the case of power supply of a ferry during the docking and undocking manoeuvres. Considering that the use of batteries does not fully comply with the maritime conditions, short-term energy storage technologies are studied as alternative, specifically flywheels and supercapacitors. After the analysis of these systems, based on models parametrized from prototypes characterized at the lab, neither of them is suitable for the case study. However, the use of a battery/SCs hybrid energy storage provides a techno-economic feasible solution, specially under the situation of dimensioning the complete system according to the consumption profile of the ferry

    A novel Hybrid Inverter Drive for AC motors capable of bypassing the voltage source inverter when operating at grid frequency

    International audienceVariable speed drives (VSDs) offer reduced power consumption for applications which allow operation at reduced motor speed. However, when continuous operation at the grid frequency is required, the VSD may become redundant, as it introduces conversion losses and electromagnetic interference (EMI), in contrast to grid-connected operation. It is hereby proposed to bypass the VSD for continuous operation at the grid frequency. This paper introduces a VSD, based on a two-level voltage source inverter (VSI), capable of transferring a motor load between grid-and inverter-connected operations, depending on the required motor speed. This paper presents a thorough analysis of the conditions under which the motor load may be transitioned from either operating mode. Thyristors are used as bypass devices. Simulation results for open and semiclosed transitions are presented, examining their impacts on the motor torque and stator currents

    Real-Time Power Loss Optimized Operation of a Solid State Transformer by Utilizing the Common-Mode Voltage

    International audienceThis article presents a general methodology and a real-time solvable, analytical model for reducing the total losses of the cells of a Solid-State Transformer (SST). The efficiency is increased with the usage of the online optimized common-mode voltage u CM . Measurements on a 400V AC to 750V DC , 45kW SST test bench verify the calculation results and the operating principle of the algorithm. A loss reduction of up to 20% is possible without introducing additional restrictions to the SST

    Practical implementation of a Novel Temperature-Insensitive Aging Indicator for on-line monitoring of bond-wire degradation in IGBT power modules

    International audienceThe online assessment of the health status of power electronic modules is crucial for predictive maintenance, enabling better system reliability and optimized operational efficiency. Traditional aging indicators are often impractical for online monitoring due to their complexity and high implementation costs, particularly because they require junction temperature estimation. In this paper, we focus on the practical implementation of a novel, temperature-insensitive aging indicator tailored for on-line monitoring bondwire degradation in IGBT power modules. This method, based on the analysis of zerotemperature coefficient (ZTC) of I-V characteristics with degraded top-metal interconnects, allows for an efficient and costeffective monitoring solution. It is presented an experimental validation through power cycling tests, highlighting the feasibility of real-time application. The proposed indicator shows a strong correlation with conventional aging indicators while offering enhanced sensitivity and independence from temperature variations. Furthermore, we outline a robust methodology for integrating this approach into industrial or embedded applications, ensuring scalability and ease of deployment

    Investigation on the Short-Circuit Behavior of HV-SiC-MOSFETs in Quasi Series Connection

    International audienceThis paper investigates the short-circuit behavior of SiC MOSFETs in a quasi series connection, which can be found in several topologies with three or more switches in a commutation loop. In the event of a device failure, this could offer the opportunity to select a device which had seen less stress up to this point to turn off the short circuit, and thus improve the (general) failure handling. Besides a theoretical analysis, short-circuit tests for such configurations are carried out with stateof-the-art 3.3-kV SiC MOSFET half-bridge modules. The analysis focuses particularly on the voltage distribution between the switches, examining the influence of different physical setups and device parameters
