National audienceIn different situations, one will have to evaluate setvaluedpredictions while having set-valued/partial observations. This is the case, for instance, when experts provideweak supervision and when predictions are providedby robust classifiers. However, we still miss some principledapproach to evaluate such predictions and observations. This is the goal of this paper, where we proposeguidelines about such evaluations functions. We will setour study within the framework of belief functions, thatseem quite adapted to the considered problem.
Robust Decisions: Bridging the Quantitative-Qualitative Gap
International audienceWhen it comes to model uncertainty and make robust decision in the form of partial, set-valued recommendations, one can find a large literature on the topic for quantitative models but much less for qualitative models. This paper intends to partially solve this issue by taking notions from the quantitative world and transfer them to the qualitative one. In particular, we consider the transfer of decision rules based on lower probabilities and Choquet integral to decision rules based on fuzzy measures and Sugeno integral

International audienceThe Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) process is known for its design flexibility, enabling the design and manufactureof parts with non-conventional lay-ups. Composite structures featuring variable fiber angle is one of the structural casesof interest in the aerospace industry, given their performance potential. Nevertheless, manufacturing structures withAFP generates singularities within the layers. The impact of these discontinuities on the mechanical behavior anddesign of such structures remains poorly understood. This work presents a meshing strategy based on geometry and tapedeposition path. This approach generates an idealized mesh of the geometry post-robot deposition, as thermomechanicaleffects of the process are not accounted for at this stage. Finally, the validation of the method is performed throughcomparison with a high fidelity mesh generated from micro-tomography scan segmentation.
Synthesis and optimization of biobased carbon adsorbent monoliths from chitosan-polybenzoxazine for efficient CO2 capture
International audienceThe present study introduces a novel method for the preparation of a CO2 carbon adsorbent derived frombiobased precursors. Porous carbon adsorbents were synthesized through the carbonization and thermalactivation of biobased chitosan-polybenzoxazine. First, the study explored the influence of varying amountsof the key polymer precursors, lysine (0.05–0.1 g) and chitosan (0.6–0.12 g), on the surface and adsorptioncharacteristics of the obtained carbons. This aimed to identify the most favourable amounts of theseprecursors that resulted in the highest CO2 adsorption performance. In the subsequent stage, the studyinvestigated the impact of different activation times (1–7 h) to enhance the surface characteristics andCO2 adsorption capacity of the activated carbon. Both carbonization and activation processes wereconducted in a tubular furnace at 900 °C under N2 and CO2 atmospheres, respectively. Aftercarbonization, the resulting carbon monoliths exhibited a char yield of approximately 49 wt%, with a BETsurface area of up to 541 m2 g−1 and a CO2 uptake of 4.0 mmol g−1 at 0 °C and 1 bar. After activation, the obtained samples displayed a surface area in the range of 650–1000 m2 g−1, with CO2 adsorptioncapacities at 1 bar ranging from 4.5 to 5.6 mmol g−1 at 0 °C and 3.2 to 4 mmol g−1 at 25 °C. Theactivated carbons also demonstrated excellent selectivities for CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 mixtures, alongwith a stable CO2 adsorption–desorption performance after 10 cycles
Hybrid Optimization Method for Safe Autonomous Navigation under Uncertainty
International audienceA fundamental difficulty that autonomous driving systems face in dynamic environments is uncertainty in the motion of the other traffic participants. Although predictive control algorithms have proven to be able to handle such scenarios, the multimodal motion of agents often increases the risk in traffic environments, leading to unsmooth motion and sometimes the failure of such risk assessment and management algorithms. This paper proposes to tackle such problems using a hybrid optimization method that finds a global safe trajectory with respect to the surrounding agents using a Fusion of stochastic Predictive Inter-Distance Profile (F-sPIDP) before following the safe path using a combination of stochastic reference points and an uncertainty-aware local trajectory optimizer. The results show that the proposed method guarantees safety even with varying levels of uncertainties.</div
Age-related changes in longitudinal and transversal elastic properties of murine skeletal muscle fibers
International audiencePurpose: Aging causes notable effects on skeletal muscle structure and function which accumulate over time to negatively impact quality of life in the elderly. To better understand how aging impacts the mechanical properties of muscle as a function of age, a series of studies were conducted, using mice as a model system, to assess responses to longitudinal and transversal stresses at a single muscle fiber resolution. Methods: Muscle fibers isolated from primarily slow-twitch fibred muscle (soleus) and a primarily fast-twitch fibred muscle (extensor digitorum longus, EDL) were extracted from young (3-month, N=5) and old (21-month, N=5) animals. Passive mechanical tests (ramp, relaxation) were performed in the longitudinal direction at 50% strain, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) tests were applied transversally. Longitudinal stresses (dynamic (σd), instantaneous (σi_Ramp) and static (σs_Relax)) and the Young's modulus were measured in both directions. Results: For both types of fibers, longitudinal stresses were shown to be significantly decreased (p < 0.001) in aged mice, with accentuated decreases observed for the EDL. Transversal AFM tests were used to elucidate the cartographies of elasticity and revealed no global differences between young and old animals for either fiber type. Regardless of age, decreased mechanical properties were universally observed for EDL fibers compared to soleus fibers. Conclusion: These findings highlight the potential of AFM to quantify transversal stiffness of the endomysium and have begun to better delineate the impacts of aging on the mechanical characteristics of skeletal muscle at single fiber resolution
