Adaptive quaternion control for a quadcopter vehicle: real-time validation in presence of wind gusts

    No full text
International audienceAn adaptive control for a quadcopter aerial vehicle exposed to aggressive wind gusts is presented in this paper. The control scheme is composed by two parts; firstly, the attitude dynamics is robustly stabilized using a controller based on the quaternion formulation. Then, a translational flight control law with adaptive properties is designed using the sliding mode approach. The stability analysis of the whole system is proved using the Lyapunov theory. The performance of the closed-loop system is validated in real-time experiments and for validating the adaptive and robust properties of the controller, strong wind gusts are applied during flight tests. A video and some graphs, obtained from these experiments, illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control strategy.</div

Applying Penetration Testing Techniques to Strengthen ERTMS Communication Security

    No full text
International audienceThis research focuses on enhancing cybersecurity in modern railway networks, specifically targeting vulnerabilities within the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and European Train Control System (ETCS). As digital technologies transform railway operations, they introduce new security challenges, exemplified by recent high-profile cyberattacks. Our work centers on using penetration testing techniques to systematically identify and address these vulnerabilities. By simulating real-world attack scenarios, we expose critical weaknesses in communication systems, such as the balise transmission system (BTS), which is crucial for safe train operations. A case study on cyber incidents in Poland—where radio signal-based attacks were exploited—highlights the severe impact of these vulnerabilities. We discuss the five stages of the penetration testing process: planning, scanning, gaining and maintaining access, analysis and reporting, and remediation. The findings underscore the importance of an ongoing and iterative approach to fortifying railway cybersecurity. Finally, the presentation outlines a roadmap for developing a comprehensive risk management framework that integrates both safety and security considerations, validated through cross-simulation experiments in our lab

Experimental Linear and Nonlinear Vibration Methods for the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of Polymer-Matrix Composites (PMC): A Literature Review

    No full text
The goal of this article is to provide a review of the experimental techniques and procedures using vibration methods for the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of Polymer-Matrix Composites (PMC). It aims to be a guide for any researchers to carry out vibration experiments. The linear methods are first introduced. But as PMC is a complex material, these classic methods showed some limits, such as low accuracy for small damages, and a high environmental dependency. This is why the nonlinear methods are secondly studied, considering that the complexity of PMC induces a nonlinear behavior of the structure after damage occurrence. The different damage mechanisms are well explained in order to evaluate the potential of each vibration method to detect them

Modelling and application of joint maintenance grouping and workload smoothing for an automotive plant

    No full text
International audienceIn the maintenance optimisation framework, grouping maintenance is a promising solution for maintenance planning of multi-component systems, in which maintenance activities are performed together to reduce maintenance costs. One of the most widely identified challenges in real applications of grouping maintenance is that it may disturb the maintenance workload balance (smoothness), causing many difficulties in production and/or labour scheduling and inventory management. In this study, we propose a joint optimisation approach for maintenance grouping and workload balancing to address the above challenge. First, a mathematical model of the joint optimisation problem was derived. A multi-objective grouping optimisation approach based on the Weighted Sum model and Genetic Algorithm was implemented to determine the Pareto-optimal grouping solution. The proposed approach was applied to a real case study of an automotive plant comprising 40 production lines with 1090 components. The results highlighted the advantages, effectiveness, and flexibility of the proposed maintenance approach in real-world applications

    No full text

The Genesis of Animal Drawings in the Flora Sinensis (1656): Between the Tuhui zongyi, Magni Catay Atlas, and Michał Boym’s Wall Map

    No full text
International audienceAbstract Focused at the intersection of the history of books, sciences, and the circulation of knowledge between China and Europe, this article aims to shed light on the genesis of the Flora Sinensis (1656) written by Father Michał Piotr Boym (1612–1659), and the processes of the circulation of Chinese images and knowledge. Through the study of several Chinese painting manuals published during the seventeenth century, our aim is to demonstrate that the Tuhui zongyi is the most likely source of the animal illustrations in the Flora Sinensis . This hypothesis will be supported by an analysis of two of Boym’s cartographic projects, which also include illustrations from the Tuhui zongyi , the Vatican atlas, and a fragment of a Boym wall map discovered in a private collection in 2023. Noting that Boym’s maps contain illustrations of the Tuhui zongyi that are absent from the Flora , we suggest that Boym acquired this painting manual for the purpose of decorating his cartographic works

Zonotopic and Gaussian Information Filter for High Integrity Localization

    No full text
International audienceThe navigation of intelligent vehicles relies on high integrity localization system capable to bound the estimation errors. This paper introduces a zonotopic and Gaussian Kalman filter in informational form for multi-sensor data fusion and confidence domain computation. By integrating stochastic and set membership uncertainties, the proposed filter ensures accurate localization with a non pessimistic confidence domain, thus addressing the challenges posed by traditional techniques. Taking advantage of the informational form, a fault detection and exclusion step is added to enhance filter robustness. Following a zonotope reduction step, a confidence domain computation, considering both Gaussian and zonotopic uncertainties, is proposed in the context of intelligent vehicles. The accuracy and integrity of the approach are assessed using experimental data, including the fusion of GPS and Galileo pseudoranges with camera measurements after a map matching step. Additionally, a comparative analysis is conducted with the classical Kalman filter
