Prime labelings on a 3xn grid graph

    No full text
A graph is a network of nodes, connected by edges. A graph with n nodes is prime if it is possible to label the nodes with the integers 1, 2, ... n in such a way that any two nodes that are connected by an edge have coprime labels. It is conjectured that all grid graphs---networks with nodes laid out in a rectangular grid and edges between orthogonally adjacent ones---have a prime labeling. In this paper it is shown that if the number theoretic conjectures Goldbach\u27s Even Conjecture and a strengthened version of Lemoine\u27s Conjecture hold then every 3 x n grid graph is prime

Increases in intellectual humility from guided conversations are greater when people perceive affiliation with conversation partners

    No full text
Intellectual humility involves awareness that one’s knowledge has limitations and that one’s beliefs might be incorrect. Despite documented benefits of intellectual humility, few studies have examined factors associated with long-term changes in intellectual humility. This study investigated whether an intervention focused on guided conversations was associated with increases in intellectual humility and whether these changes were stronger when people perceived greater affiliation with their conversation partner. Participants (N = 937) completed an intervention with four guided conversations and reported on their relationship with their partner after each conversation. Intellectual humility was measured before the first conversation, immediately after the last conversation, and 1 month following the last conversation. As hypothesized, intellectual humility increased over time, especially when people perceived greater affiliation with their conversation partner. These findings suggest that intellectual humility interventions with social components may have stronger effects when people perceive greater affiliation with their partners

Construction Techniques for Linear Realizations of Multisets with Small Support

The Buratti-Horak Rosa Conjecture is a problem in graph theory asking when we can find a Hamiltonian path in the complete graph that has various properties to do with edge lengths. In this paper, we use constructive methods to show that the conjecture is true for various parameter sets where it was previously unknown

Materiality of Traumatic Experience and the Limits of Representation in Hassan Bani Ameri’s Gonjeshkha Behesht ra Mifahmand (Sparrows Understand Heaven)

    No full text
This paper examines the materialization of trauma as both a narrative and embodied phenomenon in Hassan Bani Ameri’s 2006 novel, Gonjeshkha Behesht ra Mifahmand, using contemporary narrative and trauma theory. The postmodernist narrative, told from the perspective of a photojournalist, reconstructs events surrounding the death of a celebrated Iran-Iraq War commander. I argue that traumatic truths resist full integration into conventional frameworks of understanding, evident in the novel’s non-linear, fragmented narrative and its shift from visual realism to confessional surrealism in an ending that challenges traditional storytelling and historical documentation. By vividly simulating the sensory processing of traumatic memories, the novel emphasizes the material reality of trauma that demands to be seen, heard, and physically felt, thus negating celebratory institutional narratives around the culture of war and martyrdom
