Hippocampal connectivity dynamics and volumetric alterations predict cognitive status in migraine: A resting-state fMRI study

    No full text
The etiology of cognitive decline linked to migraine remains unclear, with a growing recurrence rate and potential increased dementia risk among sufferers. Cognitive dysfunction has recently gained attention as a significant problem among migraine sufferers that can be related to alterations in hippocampal function and structure. This study explores hippocampal subfield connectivity and volume changes in migraine patients. We recruited 90 individuals from Alanya University's Neurology Department, including 49 migraine patients and 41 controls, for functional and anatomical imaging. Using the CONN toolbox and FreeSurfer, we assessed functional connectivity and subfield volumes, respectively. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) was used to assess cognition in the entire sample. As a result, migraine patients exhibited significantly lower MOCA scores compared to controls (p<.001). Also, we found significant differences in hippocampal subfields between migraine patients and control groups in terms of functional connectivity after adjusting for years of education; here we showed that the left CA3 showed higher connectivity with right MFG and right occipitolateral cortex. Furthermore, the connectivity of left fimbria with the left temporal lobe and hippocampus and the connectivity of the right hippocampal-tail with right insula, heschl's gyrus, and frontorbital cortex were lower in the migraineurs. Additionally, volumes of specific hippocampal subfields were significantly lower in the migraineurs (whole hippocampus p = 0.004, whole hippocampus head p = 0.003, right CA1 head p = 0.006, and right HATA p = 0.005) compared to controls. In conclusion, these findings indicate that migraine-associated cognitive impairment involves significant functional and structural brain changes, particularly in the hippocampus, which may heighten dementia risk. This pioneering study unveils critical hippocampal alterations linked to cognitive function in migraine sufferers, underscoring the potential for these changes to impact dementia development

Mini Review: Renewable Energy Revolution-Transforming Resources with Power-to-X

    No full text
Fossil fuel combustion remains the dominant driver of global greenhouse gas emissions. This study thoroughly examines the "power-to-X (PtX) concept," highlighting its potential to reduce carbon emissions and serve as an attractive alternative to fossil fuel consumption. Various forms of PtX, including power-to-hydrogen (PtH), power-to-ammonia (PtA), and power-to-methanol (PtM), were examined based on their production techniques. The limitations of PtX power plants, including costs, efficiency, and transportation, were discussed. The significance of national and global policies, particularly in providing proper funding to enhance the techniques used in PtX, has been highlighted. We conclude with policy and system-integration levers (carbon pricing, offtake, certification) required to scale PtX

Resistivity image of the Lökbatan Mud Volcano

The shallow structure of the Lökbatan mud volcano region was explored via direct current resistivity method. Primary focus was on investigating the thickness of mud volcano material along the volcano vent and its surroundings. Vertical electrical sounding (VES) data were measured using a Schlumberger electrode array. A two-dimensional (2D) inverse solution was applied to the VES data of each profile. The results of the 2D inverse solution show the presence of 10–30 Ω-m of dried mud volcano material at the surface of the study area and lower resistivity stratified structures towards depth. Consequently, the shallow 2D/3D geoelectric image of the volcano vent and the thickness of the mud volcano material (breccia) distributed along the perimeter were successfully revealed

A New extension of Hermite Hadamard inequalities associating ψ-Hilfer fractional integral

Fractional inequalities have been an essential topic in mathematics and have found applications in various domains. In this article, we established some new bounds (below and above) for mid-point type inequality and trapezoidal-type inequality for ψ-Hilfer- fractional integral by utilizing functions whose second derivatives are bounded. We also investigate some new generalization and extension of Hermite-Hadamard type inequalities for ψ-Hilfer fractional integrals for the functions having the condition: (Formula presented)

Political power is consolidated not only through legal and institutional arrangements but also through the consent of the governed. Historical experience shows, however, that the masses do not always prefer liberal and pluralistic forms of governance; on the contrary, they may willingly submit to repressive regimes. Why, then, do people obey authoritarian leaders? This study examines how despotic leaders generate public consent and make their rule sustainable. By comparatively analysing the regimes of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Kim Jong Un, it explores the legitimacy-building strategies of authoritarian leaders. Despite their differing ideological and historical contexts, these three leaders are argued to have reinforced their authority through similar methods. The research investigates how such leaders secure obedience from the masses by focusing on tools such as the manipulation of hope and fear, ideological indoctrination, propaganda techniques, and the construction of a cult of personality. Hitler unified German society under Nazi ideology by promoting notions of racial superiority and national rebirth. Stalin established a system of fear and loyalty in the Soviet Union under the banner of working-class rule. Kim Jong Un, inheriting a totalitarian legacy, transformed the nationalist Juche ideology into a vehicle for absolute devotion. This analysis demonstrates that despotism is not confined to any single ideology, and that authoritarian regimes tend to develop similar mechanisms for generating consent and maintaining domination. It also explains the psychosocial dynamics, ideological manipulations, and the role of charismatic leadership in fostering popular acquiescence. In this context, the study reveals that authoritarian regimes endure not solely through coercion, but also by exercising control over emotions, shaping discourse, and exerting influence on collective psychology
