A postmodern Post-feminism without Women
Get PDFThis article aims at showing the way in which the discursive constructivism and ethical relativism characteristic of postmodern feminism and post-feminism leads to a neo-liberal and conservative political agenda that threatens women’s sex-based rights. The article will especially focus on the thought of Paul-B Preciado as a post-feminist activist. It draws a comparison also with the work of Saba Mahmood. In such a context, we will point out the necessity of a neo-material and realist framework able to account for the ontological reality of women, and their irreducibility to social hetero-norms.

Embracing the Data Revolution for Development: A Data Justice Framework for Farm Data in the Context of African Indigenous Farmers
Get PDFThis article examines the challenges that the digitalisation of agriculture in Africa brings with respect to ownership and control of data from the perspective of African indigenous farmers as data originators. It discusses the phenomena of the data revolution and digital agriculture in Africa, mapping out the ecosystem of digital agriculture by identifying general trends, key players, types and features of digitalisation driven by the capabilities of mobile and network infrastructure as well as by higher-level digitisation supported by data infrastructures capability. By situating farm data as a constitutive element of traditional knowledge of agricultural production that is subjected to ‘datafication’, the article outlines the challenges of access to data and of unequal utilisation of data as having an impact on development imperatives that necessitate better control of data flows. It proposes data justice as aconceptual framework for an Africa-wide governance of farm data in which the challenges on access to data and unfairness in its utilisation are addressed in a manner consistent with the continent’s aspirations for intra-regional relations
Incorporating Sustainability into the Academic Institution
No full textThis research examines environmental sustainability in the UK university context. Universities are prioritising sustainability commitments with many declaring a Climate Emergency, as well as recognising the importance of educating students about climate change. This research used a case-study approach in which semi-structured interviews were coupled with secondary data analysis, and suggests universities are pivotal for greater environmental sustainability. The results reiterate the urgent need to significantly improve environmental performance and educate people in the field of sustainability, whilst presenting the challenges and realities faced in doing so. It is recommended that in order to achieve optimum sustainability solutions a cohesive approach is required to embed a common sustainability narrative for all
Obliterarsi: Franca Mancinelli da Mala Kruna a Libretto di Transito Parte II
No full textThe paper tries to describe the continuity in Franca Mancinelli’s poetry books, studying the chronological progress of themes and its way of forming intertextual connections in each book or between one another. The connections’ study has the purpose to show the singular structure of each books. By looking at the structures, it can be detected Mancinelli’s method of building a structure and a poetry book. This leads to discover the variations in texts and to the study of the last versions of them. The paper aims also to define the form of self rewriting in Mancinelli’s recent books by analysing those variants in texts. The process of rewriting founds his explanation in themes’, style’s and structure’s analysis, showing a trend in the poet’s style.
L’articolo tenta di analizzare i primi tre libri di Franca Mancinelli, cercandone le continuità tematiche e l’unità profonda. Attraversando le raccolte in ordine cronologico, l’articolo privilegia la lettura dei temi al fine di scoprire le connessioni intertestuali all’interno dei singoli volumi o da uno di essi agli altri. Ciò permette di cercare quindi le strutture e le dinamiche strutturanti di un «libro di poesia» mancinelliano, ponendo attenzione alle dichiarazioni di poetica dell’autrice e studiando le varianti dei microtesti, volendo arrivare ad una definizione delle intenzioni con cui la poetessa produce nuove versioni delle sue poesie e delle sue prose liriche. La riscrittura trova una giustificazione dal lato stilistico, dal lato strutturale e dal lato tematico, scoprendo una tendenza nella scrittura di Franca Mancinelli.

Filling the Void: A Reflection
Get PDFThis reflective piece records my experience of switching to online seminars during the pandemic with small groups of first year English literature undergraduates. I reflect on issues I experienced promoting student interaction in small group seminars and how professional development opportunities available through the Warwick Academic Development Centre helped with my use of technology and improving the level of engagement. I hope that it contains some ideas which may be useful starting points for PGRs looking to develop flipped or blended learning environments in the future. Perhaps it will also shed light on the way the current cohort of students reacted to online learning which may help in supporting them when returning to more traditional, or, more likely, hybrid pedagogies
