    No full text
In this article, we want to reveal the importance of developingprofessional competences at future teachers. The students, attending theProgramme Pedagogy of Primary and Pre-school Education are of differentages, some of them have already passed the age of an average student andtherefore, we want to emphasize that initial training, the one carried on atundergraduate should take into consideration the highest standards, butpersonalized, according to the level of students` prior education. Maturestudents come from the educational system, they are pre-school or primaryschool teachers with psycho-pedagogic training and experience in thedidactic career. They want to complete their university education and wewant to show the determinant factors for their choice. We also want toemphasize the most viable directions in the training for a didactic career

COOPERATIVE LEARNING – APPLICATIONS FOR CHILDREN FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL

    No full text
This study was intended to assess the efficacy of an intervention program built on the principles of cooperative learning. We assumed the classroom climate of 4th graders would improve for the experimental lot (n=32) as compared to the control lot (n=30). Our research tool was The Classroom Climate Questionnaire designed by Johnson & Johnson (1983, 1996) and adapted for the Romanian population by C. Popa (2010). The intervention program was conducted on a 5-week period of time, on a basis of 3 hours per week, and it completed 15 cooperative learning activities in History, Civic Education and Religion. The results showed that working in cooperative learning groups leads to both, minimize the need for teacher support and minimize the need to learn independently from one’s peers. The intergroup comparisons showed that the need for independent learning in relation to one’s peers had dropped for the children in the experimental lot as compared to the children in the control lot, in posttest (t=-2,247 p=0,028). The results for intragroup comparisons for the experimental lot are statistically significant for the following subscales: teacher support (t=2,326, p=0,025), having a lower mean in posttest, and independent learning (t=2,298, p=0,029), having a lower mean in posttest. For the control lot, there were statistically significant results for the subscale of independent learning (t=-2,147, p=0,040), having a higher mean in posttest

    No full text
The study assessed business educators’ knowledge and competence level in pedagogical strategies for implementing inclusivity in the programs in Nigeria. Two research questions and six null hypotheses were used. Mixed research design with quantitative and qualitative approaches was adopted. The sample was 24 subjects from colleges of education in two states. A four-point rating scale questionnaire containing 11 pedagogical strategies, validated by three experts and an interview schedule were used for data collection. Reliability coefficient value of the questionnaire was 0.83. Research questions were answered with mean while hypotheses were tested with t-test and ANOVA at 0,05 level of significance. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically under ignorance and incompetence. The subjects' knowledge and competence level in the pedagogical strategies was very low, gender influence was not significant but that of location was. It was concluded that business educators are not yet ready for inclusivity and should be retrained by government

TENSIONS AND CONTRADICTIONS OF THE PRACTICE OF TEACHERS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN URUGUAY IN THE NARRATIVES OF TEACHERS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF LATE MODERNITY

    No full text
Although sports and healthy physical activities seem to gain an increasing relevance as massive world-wide spectacles or as a daily basis self-construction of the individual body, Physical Education is losing weight in the curricula all around the world. This paradox affects Physical Education teachers who seem to share the devaluation of their own discipline in the benefit of the intellectual ones, such as Mathematics or Sciences, with obvious consequences on the future of modern populations in living a good and long life. The research addresses the question of how this phenomenon happens, through the record and a hermeneutical analysis of interviews with 23 physical education teachers about their own lives and careers, paying attention at the main milestones that marked their labour biographies. The analysis shows personal discomfort and anguish, not only as a result of functional overload and instrumental abuse (Weis) but due to the tensions that result of the anchoring of the professional field to three contradictory logics: the rational that governs work, the expressivity of ludic activities, and the value-oriented teaching profession (Weber, Habermas). At the long run, teachers resolve those tensions through a valuative hierarchy that orientate their professional elections, situating corporal activities in the very bottom of relevance, to the point of not teaching them, reproducing the structural devaluation of the discipline (Giddens, Archer). Theoretically, the research is framed into sociological theory of late modernity (Habermas, Giddens, Archer), and some classic theories of Sociology of Sports and Physical Education (Huizinga, Callois, Weis, Turner, Brinkhoff

INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGIES: UNPACKING THE AWARENESS LEVEL AND EXTENT OF UTILISATION AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF OF UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTH-EASTERN NIGERIA

    No full text
Innovative teaching pedagogies are useful tools for effective teaching and learning which can positively enhance students’ learning experiences. The application of innovative pedagogies in teaching has, therefore, yielded positive results in many countries especially in the Global North. However, little is known about the awareness and application of these innovative pedagogies in countries in the Global South such as Nigeria. This research addressed this problem using a mixed method research approach comprising five focus group interviews and survey data from 460 respondents across four federal universities in south-eastern Nigeria. Findings in this research revealed that there is a significant low level of awareness and poor utilisation of innovative teaching methods. Inadequate facilities and equipment, inappropriate skills and classroom structure are some of the basic factors that limit the utilisation of innovative teaching methods by academics in these universities

    No full text
The paper aims to highlight the importance of ambient music in the classroom and the effects it generates over the learning process. The classroom must be a welcoming environment suitable for learning. In times when the abundance of external stimuli is on the rise, focusing on the activities is more and more affected and absorbed by these stimuli. As a result of these stimuli, many people, both children, adolescents and adults, develop Accelerated Thinking Syndrome, which can be improved, even eliminated with ambient music

    No full text
The article, based on the analysis and generalization of the experience of using pedagogical technologies in the educational process, presents the adaptive technology development algorithm, which allows managing and structuring the process of training students in a higher educational establishment in constantly changing internal and external environment. It is argued that the process of technologization in higher education is purposeful, structured and algorithmic, takes place on the basis of joint interaction between the subjects of education, has its elements, specific features, criteria and structure. Eventually, adaptability becomes the dominant characteristic of the teacher's activity, means the transition to a qualitatively new level of knowledge-intensity and optimality, as well as shapes the style of modern scientific and practical thinking. At the same time it makes it possible to increase the mastering of training material by students and to switch the teacher's attention to the individual development and creative thinking of students. Adaptability in education and adaptive approach is given special priority in the article. It is emphasized that the basis of the adaptive approach are provisions of the concept of directed self-organization, which contributes to the achievement in a changing environment of a predetermined intended goal. It is defined that adaptability involves aligning the goals and results of the educational process with market demand and personal goals of the individual with the requirements of society. The concept of "adaptive technologies" has been considered, as well as the approaches on which adaptive technologies are based have been presented: systemic, synergetic, active, humanistic, personality-oriented, differentiated, and adaptive. The result of the research is the structure of adaptive technology proposed by the author, which has been developed on the basis of known pedagogical technologies and includes conceptual, content, procedural-adaptive and resulting components. The adaptive technology development algorithm has been defined, which allows maximizing the mechanism of directing the joint activity of students and the teacher towards the achievement of a feasible target, increasing the extent of freedom between the subjects of the educational process, mobilizing them for the desired result
