Covid-19 And Its Impacts On Students' Attitudes And Behaviours Related To Proper Nutrition, Alcohol Consumption, And Smoking.: 10.62591/ajpa.2025.13.05
Albania has experienced tremendous political, social, and economic transformation throughout the 1990s. Among these have been modifications to nutrition, both in terms of quantity and quality. Most people now live in better conditions thanks to the move in the political system towards a free-market economy, which also resulted in more cars on the road. As a result, there was a surge in both environmental pollution and population inactivity, which has been connected to obesity and overweight in all age categories. For children and young people, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity have the biggest effects. This study, which involves students from the Faculty of Physical Activity and Recreation practically every year, aimed to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity, as well as alcohol and cigarette use, in first-year bachelor's students. The study's main goal was to determine whether the Corona virus epidemic had any influence on the results. 140 students were chosen at random between October and November 2021, with a mean age of 18.69 years (58.75% male and 41.42% female participants). The results indicate that some sports university students may benefit from studying a sports nutrition module as well as nutritional and health promotion programs to lessen this propensity, especially in male students, even though the general prevalence of overweight and obesity in the sample investigated is low. We believe that the rise in alcohol and cigarette use since the end of our previous study in 2019 is likely due to isolation during COVID-19, either out of boredom or to deal with tension and anxiety levels that have been reported to rise across the board in all demographic groups
Effectiveness Of Massage In Recovery From Exercise-Induced Muscle Injury In Older Adults: 10.62591/ajpa.2025.13.09
The study aims to evaluate massage as a recovery method for joint position, and balance after exercise-induced muscle injury in older adults. One hundred and seventy-five elderly patients performed an exercise session targeting the calf muscles (five exercises, six sets of 15 repetitions to induce muscle damage). The objectives of the study are to evaluate the role of massage and the Scottish cold shower in the recovery of older adult patients. After training, the participants underwent one of the recovery interventions: a 20-minute massage on the calves, a 12–15-minute Scottish cold shower on the lower limbs (12.5 ± 1°C). These interventions were administered immediately after exercise and again at 24, 48 and 72 hours over a period of 21 days. Conclusions: the measurements taken each time included muscle pain, joint position, and postural-balance balance. The treatments and the time allocated to repetitive massage significantly reduced muscle pain and improved balance. Conversely, although they alleviated muscle pain, they did not effectively prevent loss of muscle strength, balance deficits. Therefore, older people who engage in strength training can benefit from massage for longer to help with muscle recovery, improve balance, and reduce the risk of falls.
THE EFFECT OF GUIDED REFLECTION STRATEGIES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF METACOGNITION IN ADOLESCENTS: 10.24250/jpe/2/2025/MM/
This paper investigates the impact of guided reflectionstrategies on the development of metacognition in highschool students. The present study used a quasiexperimentaldesign with two parallel groups(experimental and control), assessing changes in selfawarenessand cognitive self-regulation over an eight-weekperiod. The results showed significant improvements inmetacognitive awareness and academic performance in theexperimental group, suggesting that guided reflection canbe successfully integrated into teaching activities. Theresults indicated a significant increase in scores on theMetacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and improvedacademic performance in Mathematics and RomanianLanguage for the experimental group. The conclusionssupport the integration of guided reflection into thecurriculum as an effective teaching approach forstimulating self-regulated learning
TEACHING PASSIVE AS A FIELD-CHARACTERISTIC FEATURE OF FLT DISCIPLINARY DISCOURSE. THE CASE OF ENGINEERING: 10.24250/jpe/2/2025/AP/
Creating a functional disciplinary discourse in a FLTcontext is a challenge for foreign language teachers whoshould problematize issues contributing to the foundationof the disciplinary discourse such as the specialization ofvoice depending on the type of production, written or oral, and genre students should be able to generate. Raisingawareness in students about the specialization of passivevoice in describing the technical processes in the case ofengineering students is a key element to learning how toproduce adapted and successful pieces of texts that servethe purpose of emphasizing technological processes, whichis characteristic of the scientific discourse. Consequently, this piece of research aims at bringing evidence in supportof the hypothesis that by constant training and practicestudents become aware of the cognitive connection betweenthe use of passive voice and the informed production ofdisciplinary discourse. In order to do so, we haveconducted an empirical study which verifies students’capacity of adjusting the voice depending on the contexts, thus demonstrating a clear cognitive separation between adaily regular discourse and a technical engineering one.The results of the study indicate a straightforwardcorrelation between the task genre and the voice selectedby students, which is an essential element in provingawareness of their belonging to a disciplinary discoursewhich they have taken in and used accordingly
SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS OF STUDIES ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SCHOOL DROPOUT AND TECHNOLOGY USE: 10.24250/jpe/2/2025/IMO/
This paper proposes a systematic analysis of the specializedliterature on the complex relationship between schooldropout and the use of technology in the educationalprocess. The study highlights that school dropout is amultidimensional phenomenon determined by theinteraction of individual, school-related, family, andcontextual factors, all of which have significantimplications for the personal and social development ofyoung people. In the context of the digital era, technologyemerges as a double-edged instrument: a valuable learningresource and, simultaneously, a potential risk factor whenused inappropriately. The reviewed research emphasizesthe importance of the conscious and responsibleintegration of technology in education through earlyprevention programs, the development of digitalcompetences, and the strengthening of the school–family–community partnership. The study concludes thateducational success in the age of digitalization depends onmaintaining a balance between technological skilldevelopment and socio-emotional competences—fundamental elements for activ
BRIDGING THE GAP: A DEVELOPMENTALLY-SENSITIVE INTERVENTION FRAMEWORK FOR CHILDHOOD PROCRASTINATION: 10.24250/jpe/2/2025/MAO/
Procrastination in children represents a significant selfregulatoryfailure, yet it is distinct from the conscious, irrational delay observed in adults. Grounded in recentdevelopmental research (Mahy, Munakata, & Miyake,2024), this review argues for a reconceptualization ofchildhood procrastination as an early behavioralprecursor linked to underdeveloped executive functions,future-oriented thinking, and emotion regulation. Informedby Miyake and Kane's (2022) process model—whichidentifies task-induced negative moods and goalmanagementfailures as core mechanisms—we propose adevelopmental framework for intervention. This integrativeapproach focuses on two synergistic strategies: (1)optimizing the child's environment to make it less"procrastination-friendly" through structured routines andminimized distractions, and (2) teaching simple, habitualized compensatory strategies, such as "startingrituals" and task segmentation. By proactively targetingthese underlying mechanisms, this framework provides apractical roadmap for parents and educators to foster selfefficacyand help children build adaptive habits
VOLUNTEERING AS A FORM OF SOCIAL CAPITAL IN YOUTH CAREER ORIENTATION: THE CASE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM ARAD COUNTY: 10.24250/jpe/2/2025/CID/
Volunteering has become an increasingly visible dimensionof educational and community life in Romania, especiallyin regions where schools have established partnershipswith local organizations. This paper explores volunteeringas a form of social capital that supports the careerorientation of high school students in Arad County.Through the theoretical lenses of Bourdieu, Coleman, andPutnam, the study highlights how voluntary engagementcontributes to the development of professional identity, civic competence, and relational networks that facilitatecareer decision-making. Volunteering is understood asboth an educational and sociological process—one thatlinks the school environment to the broader community andthe labor market
TEACHERS’ PERSPECTIVES ON SOCIAL CHANGES AMONG MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS: 10.24250/jpe/2/2025/VC/DRC/
The rapid social changes of the last decades, generated bydigitalization, globalization and changes in family values, have profoundly transformed the behaviors andinterpersonal relationships of secondary school students. This study explores teachers' perceptions of thesetransformations and how they influence school dynamics, motivation and socio-emotional development of students. The research, of mixed type, was carried out on a sampleof 85 secondary school teachers, from three counties inRomania. The tools used were a semi-structuredquestionnaire and a focus-group interview, designed tocapture perceptions of students' behaviors, the relationshipwith the family, the influence of the online environment andchanges in the classroom climate. The results highlight anincrease in individualism, a decrease in emotionalresilience and a growing difficulty in managing collegialrelationships. Teachers emphasize the need for educationalinterventions focused on emotional intelligence, empathy, and cooperation. The study contributes to understandinghow social transformations affect the school environmentand provides recommendations for strengthening aneducation centered on positive social values
