Teaching Mathematics to English Language Learners Using Robert Moses‘ Five-Step Approach
An eight-week summer intervention program in a low-performing middle school in Southern California applied Robert Moses‘ Five-Step Approach outlined in Moses & Cobb (2001). The Teachers Radically Enhancing Education (T.R.E.E.) Project brought hands-on, experiential mathematics teaching to 20 Latino English Language Learners who failed one or more courses in the previous academic year. At the end of the eight-week program, the 20 students showed improvement in mathematical performance and behavior. An original activity plan created by the participating pre-service teachers based on the Five-Step Approach is included
Navigating the Changes that Ai is Bringing to Higher Education
This article suggests that experimenting with generative Ai and engaging with stakeholders can help navigate the disruptive changes that Ai is bringing to higher education. Viewing the Ai in higher education landscape through the Kübler-Ross Change Curve, which consists of the seven stages of change (Shock, Denial, Frustration, Depression, Experiment, Decision, and Integration), is one way to approach the challenges and opportunities. Suggestions for how to experiment with generative Ai can be used by novices as well as by innovators looking to support novices. In addition, the author shares reflections on engagements with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners as a way to move through the stages of change
Preparing Teacher Candidates for Inclusive Practice: A Program Overview
This paper provides a programmatic overview of an early childhood education (ECE), dual-licensure personnel preparation program in the Midwest. The foundation of the ECE program includes blended faculty from general and special education, a cohort model, field placements every semester, and continual review and innovative practices. The ECE Program is offered in both campus-based and online delivery models to meet the needs of prospective students across the state and region. Faculty have recently expanded the program array to include two additional online programs to meet the changing needs of the workforce: a non-license credential-based bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public policy. The ECE program’s unique components and multiple offerings position it well to prepare teacher candidates to educate all children within inclusive settings. Future directions include developing a master’s degree in early childhood special education.

“Born in the first light of the morning”: Feminist pedagogy in art museums and exhibitions toward a new professional development of care
We share our own experiences of visiting exhibitions as a practice of feminist pedagogy and how we used them to help master students in a residential care programme in Master in the University of Milano Bicocca to expand their thinking about the idea of care. We reflect on how the idea of taking up ‘care’ as (dis)connections to the land based on an experience of visiting First People’s House at the University of Victoria, and returns to childhood sites of memory. Using one particular art exhibition by Dineo Seshee Bopape’, who uses organic materials to explore concepts of land, memory, identity, and colonialism, we discuss how this exhibition actually enabled new thinking as witnessed in the research dairies kept by four students. Based on diary entries we developed I-poems to show how understandings of care had expanded using art and exhibitions to break boundaries of normative thinking

Strategies for Creative Insubordination in Mathematics Teaching
Mathematics teaching requires political agility on the part of teachers who must negotiate their contexts in order to advocate for their students. Yet, most teachers of mathematics are not prepared for this work. This article presents a set of strategies that teachers can use in their everyday interactions with administrators, colleagues, parents, and students when political scenarios arise related to mathematics teaching and learning
Creating an AI Toolkit for Faculty
Generative AI has brought many opportunities and challenges to Higher Education. Faculty across disciplines have shown a keen interest in learning more about generative AI. A team of instructional designers at a regional university working collaboratively to develop Generative AI resources aimed to support faculty members in expanding their knowledge. These efforts resulted in an AI Toolkit specifically targeted to help faculty grow their knowledge and experience with generative AI. The toolkit contains resources for faculty relating to policy and guidelines, academic integrity, and ways to integrate generative AI into their courses. This article recalls the process that led to the creation of the AI toolkit, provides a research-based rationale for its creation, and includes information on accessing and using the publicly available toolkit.
Stories of women as a source of inspiration: Exploring the link between the stories we live and the stories we share
In this article I share three case studies of how three feminist artists told women’s stories in Celje, Slovenia using a storytelling performance, feminist tours, and an acrobatic performance. Through the lens of feminist adult education and gender justice I explored how stories told about women said as much about them as the artists themselves because individual women’s histories, personal circumstances and interests are very much collective experiences and consciousness. Through semi-structured interviews the artists shared how their work aimed to challenge perceptions and dynamics of gender, disrupt stereotypes and broaden knowledge of the historical expectations and limitations women have faced for decades. By illustrating the educational potential of these activities, I offer insights into how the background of the creator influences the creative process
