Human-Centric Functional Modeling provides the potential opportunity to decompose biological systems in this way in order to significantly increase collective ability to derive insight about the behavior of a wide range of biological systems, as well as in order to provide the capacity to derive insights from generalizing an understanding of any one biological systems to any other system or collections of such systems where that understanding might apply. Get PDFSpurred by a crisis in their confidence in past findings, psychology in North America, Europe, and Australia has been undergoing a credibility revolution, which has spurred the development and popularization of open science practices to improve the research process. Alongside this development, a broad array of stakeholders have noted that African science is at its own crossroads, as investments in this sector can facilitate human development on the continent. Here we argue that these two movements can facilitate each other: psychology in North America and Europe can benefit from stronger psychology research communities on the African continent, while African scientists can benefit from credible evidence generated through open, freely-available open science practices and tools. However, this synergy will only materialize if a wide array of stakeholders invest in African science through providing resources, training, and specially adapted research tools while simultaneously avoiding ethical pitfalls such as corruption and research colonialism

We will showcase our approach to co-creating resources and a replicable framework tailored to the needs and objectives of a growing community of African reviewers in the context of the changing global landscape of scientific research assessment and dissemination
Assessing the Relation Between Covid-19 Perception and Acceptance of the Covid-19 Vaccine in Kenya.
Get PDFPURPOSE: Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019 in China and its spread, it continues to terrorize the Kenyan population with new infections and death cases daily. This study was done to determine if the perception of the disease influenced vaccine acceptance within the Kenyan population.
METHODS: Electronically shared questionnaires were used to conduct this survey in the Kenyan adult population in January and February 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions, to evaluate the Kenyan populations’ Covid-19 perception and relation to Covid-19 vaccine acceptance rate. One-way ANOVA was performed to check whether the perception of respondents and acceptance of the vaccine differed significantly and correlation was done to evaluate the relationship between the perception and vaccine acceptance.
RESULTS: Out of total sum of 659 participants, 451(68%) perceived the existence of Covid-19 in the country; 338 (75%) were willing to take the vaccine if it was made available to them. Noticeable differences between the perception and acceptance rate of the vaccine across different demographic characteristics.
CONCLUSION: Covid-19 perception strongly relates to the acceptance of the vaccine in the Kenyan population

No full textThe maker movement refers to individual or collective do-it-yourself practices that make use of digital manufacturing in fields as varied as daily life, research, and industry. These practices are deployed in physical spaces called makerspaces. This generic term designates technological spaces of open innovation that are alternatively called fab labs, hubs, accelerators, incubators, hackerspaces, biohackerspaces, living labs, or coworking spaces. Makerspaces are generally equipped with digitally controlled machines, such as 3D printers or laser cutters, computer equipment, electronic kits, and a variety of other equipment or tools, like saws or sewing machines. Beyond the material aspect, makerspaces are characterized by their community dimension: regardless of their field, people with similar interests can come together to socialize, to collaborate, and to discuss common themes and problems. However, the maker movement—it is worth mentioning—is not a new phenomenon. As Michel Lallement says, “We have always been makers.”[1] This is all the more true in the African context, where resourcefulness, DIY, recycling, and repairing/mending practices are anchored in daily life. With an estimated over 100 makerspaces in Africa,[2] this ever-increasing expansion cannot go unnotice

No full textControversial constitutional and institutional reforms voted in May 2019 in parliament opened the way for President Gnassingbé to stand for a fourth and fifth term because the law does not apply retroactively. In February 2020, the President won again the disputed presidential elections and thus consolidated his power, assisted by the loyal army and security services. The outbreak of the Corona epidemic in Togo in March and the subsequent economic recession may have contributed to limit popular protest against the Gnassingbé regime. The human rights record of the government has improved, but remains poor. Yet, the international community followed a 'laissez faire' approach in the interests of regional stability. The economy dropped into recession due to the worldwide economic negative effects of the corona-crisis. The democracy index of the Economic Intelligence Unit, London, still rated Togo as an 'authoritarian regime'
