Although the five figures of power of base numbers tables are more accurate because it is having less approximation in their establishment. The four-figure tables are easy to compute doing utilization because it is having fewer digits to work with. This paper presents the four and five figures of Kifilideen (Power of base 11) and AntiKifilideen (Antipower of base 11) tables for the computation of mathematical problems. The four and five figures are both reliable to work with. However, there is a tradeoff between easy computation (as related to the four-figure table) and more accuracy (as related to the five-figure table) in their utilization

    Lost in Transfer? Exploring the Influence of Culture on the Transfer of Knowledge Categories

    Supported by an extensive review of four-domains of literature (knowledge management, organisational learning, culture, and retail), this study examines the influence of national culture on transfer of knowledge categories in top supermarkets in Africa and the United Kingdom (UK). Data from in-depth semi-structured interviews with 40 store managers (SMs) was used to examine how the SMs transfer the five sales performance drivers – selling-related knowledge, the degree-of-adaptiveness, role-clarity, cognitive-aptitude, and work-engagement – to their subordinates. The study finds these UK supermarkets’ knowledge transfer (KT) practices as embedded in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and project-based learning. SMs from African supermarkets exploit various opportunities to build interpersonal relationships and trust with knowledge-holders, thereby facilitating learning and KT. This study links such behaviours to ‘Ubuntu’ – a well-established African philosophy/ethics. The study finds socialisation, externalisation, and internalisation as common knowledge assets in African supermarkets, in contrast to socialisation and externalisation in their UK counterparts. This study found that, despite these variations in their strategic priorities regarding knowledge assets, these five sales performance drivers are transferred successfully in the supermarkets in both continents that participated in the research. This offers a new insight that challenges the extant theorising that KT praxis varies between diverse cultures

    Leveraging General Collective Intelligence to Increase the Impact of Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence Algorithms

    The emerging science of General Collective Intelligence or GCI describes how GCI as a hypothetical cognitive computing platform might enable groups of individuals or intelligent agents working on behalf of those individuals to self-assemble into a massive network of cooperation. Such networks are predicted to be able to radically increase the speed and scale at which the group might construct platforms from a library of logic based functionality (i.e. procedural program) and/or a library of text pattern recognition based functionality (i.e. machine intelligence algorithms), as well as enable groups to do so on a self-sustaining basis, where these self-assembled platforms are also predicted to achieve significantly better outcomes for the group of users. To facilitate this self-assembly, GCI leverages Human-Centric Functional Modeling to represent such components in terms of paths through a functional state space defined to represent all possible behavior of this cognitive computing platform so that all such components can be represented. This article explores how this same approach might be applied to define cognitive visual processing platforms that radically increase capacity to leverage all existing image processing functionality as well as all visual pattern recognition algorithms in order to radically increase capacity for and effectiveness at image recognition

    Mortality Classification of Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients in Zambia Using Machine Learning

    Supplemental Materials: https://osf.io/mbndg/The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has wreaked havoc globally, resulting in millions of cases and deaths. The objective of this study was to predict mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Zambia using machine learning (ML) methods based on factors that have been shown to be predictive of mortality and thereby improve pandemic preparedness. This research employed seven powerful ML models that included: decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), support vector machines (SVM), logistic regression (LR), naïve bayes (NB), gradient boosting (GB), and XGBoost (XGB). These classifiers were trained on 1,433 hospitalized COVID-19 patients from various health facilities in Zambia. The performances achieved by these models were checked using accuracy, recall, F1-Score, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC_AUC), area under the precision-recall curve (PRC_AUC), and other metrics. The best performing model was the XGB which had accuracy of 92.3%, recall of 94.2%, F1-Score of 92.4%, and ROC_AUC of 97.5%. The pairwise Mann-Whitney U-test analysis showed that the second-best model (GB) and the third-best model (RF) did not perform significantly worse than the best model (XGB) and had the following: GB had accuracy of 91.7%, recall of 94.2%, F1-Score of 91.9%, and ROC_AUC of 97.1%. RF had accuracy of 90.8%, recall of 93.6%, F1-Score of 91.0%, and ROC_AUC of 96.8%. Other models showed similar results for the same metrics checked. The study successfully derived and validated the selected ML models and predicted mortality effectively with reasonably high performance in the stated metrics. The feature importance analysis found that knowledge of underlying health conditions about patients’ hospital length of stay (LOS), white blood cell count, age, and other factors can help healthcare providers offer lifesaving services on time, improve pandemic preparedness and decongest health facilities in Zambia and other countries with similar settings

Guébie distinguishes three core categories of noun, which we call true mass, count, and countable mass nouns, and possesses a singulative suffix which converts countable mass nouns into count nouns.     Pedagogical integration of technology as an enhancement to teaching and learning in Gauteng public schools

    The study explores how Information Communication Technology (ICT) can be integrated in the daily school activities of Gauteng public schools from views of educators, Heads of Departments (HODs) and subject advisors. The aim of the study was to explore the degree of the ICT integration within Gauteng public schools, the challenges impeding the optimum utilisation of ICT towards curriculum delivery and enabling conditions for ICT rollout in education transformation. Therefore, the study's objectives were to determine the degree to which individual qualities impact the educator’s preparedness in the usage of ICT for teaching, to ascertain the magnitude to which preceding ICT skills and computer training affects educator’s preparedness within their teaching environment; hence determine the degree to which ICT infrastructure affects the educators’ preparedness to integrate ICT technology during teaching. Using stratified random sampling method, two hundred and ten (210) educators were extracted from the identified population. The purposive sampling technique was applied to sample twelve (12) HODs and five (5) senior officials from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE). Both educators and HODs were selected from public schools in three Gauteng regions namely: Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni. A triangulation technique was employed using a survey (questionnaires and semi-structured interviews) as data collection instruments to collect data from respondents. The collected data was then scrutinised in-line with the predefined conceptual framework. The independent variables of the study were factors influencing educators’ readiness to use ICT in public schools. The dependent variable of the study was educators’ preparedness to use ICT. An analytical tool, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), was used to analyse quantitative data. This allowed the study to generate descriptive statistics from the collected data. Qualitative data from semi-structured interviews was analysed using content analysis resulting in a systematic and replicable procedure of identifying themes by compressing many words of text into fewer categories. The main result of the study is that ICT training affects educators’ preparedness to use ICT resources for curriculum delivery. Training deepens educators’ ICT knowledge and prepares them to apply learned skills. The acquired set of knowledge and skills in turn give the educators more confidence in the classroom and competence in teaching the subject content. A major recommendation of the study is the need to have regular refresher courses in ICT as the findings revealed that not all educators have good computer skills. Further, there is a need to improve the pace of the rollout of the of ICT infrastructure as lack of it negatively affects educators’ preparedness. Above all, the study recommends that a multi-sectoral implementation model for ICT integration should be adopted by the Gauteng Department of Education. This can improve the integration and adoption of technology for teaching and learning in selected Gauteng public schools. The other element to consider is introducing change management early in the rollout so that educators can adapt to the changing work environment

    This paper examines the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) initiatives and Counter Terrorist Financing (CTF) approaches in the United Kingdom (UK) and United States of America (USA). Furthermore, it examines the various regulatory frameworks in the above-mentioned jurisdictions. AML/CTF regulations are very critical for the security of economies and societies because they provide frameworks and guidelines for detecting and combating money laundering and other associated crimes. Some of the significant statutory frameworks are: The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) in the United States, the USA Patriot Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Directives (AMLDs) in Europe, the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act (SAMLA) in the United Kingdom, and the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) in Canada are some examples of these laws. The paper used legal methodologies to explicate the phenomenon under investigation. A doctrinal methodology hinges upon analysis of existing case laws, statutes and other primary sources to understand better the legal proposition.     Focus Marking Strategies In Igbo

    In this paper we describe the encoding of term focus in the Benue-Kwa language Igbo. Next to a discussion of focus marking devices that are available in the language and their different pragmatic usage conditions, we highlight the fact that the observed subject/non-subject split in focus encoding provides novel insights into the scope and generality of the focus marking generalization put forward in Fiedler et al. (2010). We argue that the distribution of focus markers is not solely regulated by pragmatic principles (viz. to avoid a default topic interpretation especially for subjects), but also by the syntactic position of the focus marker, its morphological realization conditions as well as a ban on too local subject movement
