    Sizing of Unit Operations in process engineering using Aspen Plus Simulation

    This project deals with the sizing of unit operations in process engineering. Process engineering is the understanding and application of the fundamental principles and laws of nature that allow us to transform raw material and energy into products that are useful to society, at an industrial level. By taking advantage of the driving forces of nature such as pressure, temperature and concentration gradients, as well as the law of conservation of mass, process engineers can develop methods to synthesize and purify large quantities of desired chemical products. In this project we will focus in the design, operation, control, optimization and intensification of chemical processes by designing pipelines in each case study. For Numerical Resolution, will use the chemical process simulator Aspen HYSYS, used to mathematically model chemical processes. We have a multitude of problems to deal with during this project. 1.     The Pragmatics Of Swahili Relative Clauses

    Several studies explain the variation of the Swahili relative clause (RC) from a syntactic perspective. These studies discuss the derivational and structural differences/similarities between the amba RC and the tensed RC. In this study, the choice between the amba and tensed RCs is explained from a pragmatic perspective. 440 RCs were extracted from the Helsinki Corpus of Swahili. The dataset was then coded for various variables including relative marker (amba/tensed), relative type (restrictive/non-restrictive), length (number of words used), and information status (topic/non-topic). The results show that the tensed RCs are mostly restrictive while the amba RCs are mostly non-restrictive. Further, the mean length of the amba RC is higher than of the tensed RC. It was observed that the amba RC is preferred in topic shift transition, that is, when a non-topic NP becomes the topic NP in the following utterance while the tensed RC is preferred in continue transition, that is, if the topic of the matrix clause is the same as that of the RC

    In Kenya, many libraries have embraced the use of ICTs to leverage their services. While the extent of the use of ICTs in these libraries vary vastly, it is reported in literature that the use of these technologies are also faced by different challenges. Accordingly, this study sought to the key challenges affecting the adoption of ICTs by government libraries in Kenya under two objectives: to describe the challenges affecting the adoption of ICTs by government libraries in Kenya and recommend measures that should be taken to arrest the challenges. The study was informed by e-readiness model and guided by qualitative research methods. Twelve (12) libraries were selected purposively. Data was collected from the heads of selected libraries using interview method. Website and documentary analysis was also used to enhance data quality. Data presentation and analysis was done qualitatively, however this was simplified using figures and tables based on excel software. According to the findings, the adoption of ICTs by government libraries is affected by different managerial, financial, technological and staff related challenges. Based on these findings, the study recommended the formation of ICT committee at the department of government Library Services (GLS), enhancing internet access in libraries, adapting a standard system for government libraries, development of ICT policy for libraries and exploring alternative sources of funding by librarie

    Outcome of the African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) Research & Innovation (R&I) Ministerial Meeting of July 2020, the “AU-EU Innovation Agenda” aims to turn R&I investments into tangible businesses, services and jobs. This Agenda proposes specific objectives with short-, medium- and long-term actions for all four priority areas of the AU-EU cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), namely (i) Public Health, (ii) Green Transition, (iii) Innovation and Technology and (iv) Capacities for Science. This paper aims to raise awareness on the AU-EU Innovation Agenda and the ongoing public consultation on its working document (open until 30 June 2022). This consultation will gather feedback and input from citizens, stakeholders and their respective organisations, through an online survey (https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/IAPublicConsultation). This is done to ensure that the Agenda will address actual unmet needs on the ground, to ultimately maximise chances to provide for sustainable and inclusive growth in Africa and Europe

    The emerging science of General Collective Intelligence or GCI defines the requirements for a hypothetical platform able to self-organize individuals in a self-sustaining way into massive networks of cooperation with the capacity to execute collective reasoning in a way that might exponentially increase the general problem-solving ability of the group. Some of these requirements of a GCI include the property of “dynamic decentralization”, without which any modeling, simulation, analysis or understanding of social systems from a quantitative and/or computational perspective are hypothesized to be centralized in a way that prevents them from being free of being constrained to be aligned with the individual interests of any powerful decision-makers involved in any of these processes. This paper explores why, as a consequence, building computational social systems on top of GCI is critical in ensuring that any class of problem can be solved where that class relates to the misalignment between the interests of influential individual decision-makers, and the outcomes that would be beneficial for the group
