Cervical Cancer Screening Cascade At Newlands Clinic By Dr Katayoun Taghavi, University Of Bern, Switzerland

    No full text
This retrospective cohort study had aim to define and assess a cervical cancer screening cascade for women living with HIV enrolled at an ART clinic in Zimbabwe and to explore patient factors associated with retention through stages of the cascade. Main findings: Analysing outcomes along the proposed cervical screening cascade can identify areas for improvement; interventions are needed to improve linkage to treatment for screen-positive women who do not qualify for same-day cryotherapy; and many women continued to screen positive after treatment

Technical reportAbout the report While our academic outputs cater for scholarly audiences, offering intricate analyses and methodological deliberations, this technical report considers a different path. Recognising the vast spectrum of stakeholders; from policy makers to practitioners - whose decisions and actions are pivotal in shaping the future of rural communities, we’ve crafted this report to be accessible, clear, and action-oriented. Simplicity: Away from the academic jargon and complex terminologies, this report communicates in a plain language, ensuring that findings are clear despite the academic level. Visuals: To further enhance the report’s accessibility, we’ve incorporated a range of visuals – charts, graphs, and illustrative diagrams – to aid the understanding, and also offer a quick snapshot of key findings and recommendations. Utility: At its core, the report aims to be a tool for decision-makers, offering them grounded insights and actionable recommendations. By shedding light on the interplay of vulnerabilities, livelihoods, and institutional dynamics in the context of COVID-19 in rural settings, we hope to inform strategies that can more effectively address similar challenges in future. In addition, the qualitative data from this study was analysed using content analysis. The content analysis was carried out thematically by coding the bunch of text obtained from the field and creating themes as coding, thematic classification of coded texts, and integrating, refining and writing-up theoretical outcomes. NVIVO version 12 was used to code and develop themes from the data with thorough probing into the socio-economic implication of the pandemic on our unit of analysis. Specifically, well-defined explanatory mix, spread across various pre-existing resource endowment of individuals in the sustainable livelihood framework were used to analyse the socio-economic vulnerability of people using consumption and income effect of the pandemic. In conclusion, this technical report stands as a bridge between rigorous research and actionable insights. In synthesising our findings in a user-friendly format, we aspire to arm policymakers and practitioners with the knowledge and understanding required to devise robust, informed strategies. Strategies that can pave the way for more resilient rural communities, better equipped to face the multifaceted challenges of disasters and pandemics. The report is divided into two sections, presenting qualitative and quantitative data.COVID-19 Africa Rapid Grant Fund National research Foundation - South Afric

Effective bilingual education in Francophone West Africa: Constraints and possibilities

    No full text
Bilingual education that incorporates a local language alongside the official language has become an increasingly common approach in sub-Saharan Africa for improving literacy rates and learning outcomes. Evidence suggests that bilingual instruction is largely associated with positive learning and literacy outcomes globally (Bühmann & Trudell, 2007; Takam & Fassé, 2020). However, the adoption of bilingual education does not guarantee positive learning outcomes (e.g., Ball et al., 2022). This paper reviews bilingual programs in sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on programs in six Francophone West African countries (Niger, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon). We identified factors critical to high-quality and effective bilingual programs. Implementation factors, such as teacher training and classroom resources, and socio-cultural factors, such as perceptions of local languages in education, constrain and contribute to the quality of bilingual education. These insights may help inform policy-makers and other stakeholders seeking to improve bilingual education programs in Francophone West Africa and other contexts

    Rentolog Electric Water Technology

    Get PDF
When water is supplied to the tank, the water flows into a region, the region is blocked by an arc as in your conventional dam, the pressure of the water will increase, the arc opens and the pressure reduces. According to Bernoulli principle, the lower the pressure increases the speed of the fluid(water) and higher the pressure, the speed (velocity) reduces. The water speed is maintained by Pascal principle, which states the fluid at a point or region is evenly distributed . The flow to a region of empty space , gravity and magnetic field of the magnet pull it towards the turbine as in the mountain fall. As the water turns the turbine , Faraday law of magnetic field will occur. a small electric current will be supplied to the coil and the rotor which strengthens the electricity and supplies it to the battery, and your home. The water will flow back to the tank passing through the non-return valve to continue the thermodynamic flow equation. This process conserves energy and requires minimum electricity to operate and also it is efficient. The body of the RET system is made of an insulator to prevent escape of electricity

Dietary protein-energy restriction followed by restitution with or without fortification in growing rats | IJB 2021

    Get PDF
Supplemental Materials: https://osf.io/xur4b/This study aimed to assess the effects of a fortified diet on nutritional indicators of growing rats undergoing a protein-energy restriction. For this purpose, three experiments of 30 days were carried out. The first experiment was performed to evaluate the effects of a protein-energy restriction on the growth of 24 rats. The second experiment was intended to rehabilitate by restitution with appropriate diets 24 rats after a period of restriction. The last one was performed on 18 rats with a fortified restitution diet. After two weeks, protein-energy restriction induced a sharp drop in rat growth from the beginning to the end of the experiment. The average values of the nutritional characteristics of treated rats were lower than those of control rats. After protein-energy restitution, the daily average values of the nutritional characteristics of treated rats resume slightly. The restitution with fortification leads to a great resumption of growth and a consequent increase in nutritional characteristics of rats. In conclusion, for protein-energy restitution to be effective, it must be fortified with a complex of essential amino acids and trace elements

Open Peer Reviewers in Africa Workshop Trainer Guide

    No full text
This Trainer Guide is meant to help researchers and professionals who want to be Trainers for the Open Peer Reviewers in Africa workshop series. In order to be a Trainer, we recommend that you have attended the workshop yourself as a cohort trainee. Our goal is to establish a Trainer-of-Trainers (ToT) model in which workshop participants are encouraged and empowered to mobilize, recruit and train colleagues in their respective scholarly communities. This guide is NOT meant to be prescriptive about how anyone should conduct their training. We encourage you to consider the content as suggestions for your own training and feel free to adapt it to your needs and circumstances
