Challenges Facing The Use Of ICT In Teaching Computer Studies In Public Secondary Schools In Awka South L.G.A.
This study was conducted to examine the challenges facing the use of ICT in teaching computer studies in public secondary schools in Awka South Local Government Area. The study was guided by two research questions. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Population of the study comprises 1,533 public senior secondary two students (SS2) and 43 teachers from the 18 public secondary schools in Awka South L.G.A. Through simple random sampling, 180 students and 20 teachers were selected as sample size for this study. Instrument for data collection was a 24-item structured questionnaire validated by two experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha which yielded a coefficient value of 0.76. The data analyses using mean scores. The findings revealed that the challenges facing the use of ICT in teaching computer studies in public secondary schools in Awka South L.G.A include lack of internet access, inadequate electricity supply, and lack of funding by the government. It was also found that lack of technical support for the available ICT facilities and inadequate security measures to safeguard the ICT facilities are among the challenges to the use of ICT in teaching of computer studies. The findings of this study also revealed that the solutions to the challenges facing the use of ICT in teaching of computer studies in public secondary schools in Awka South Local Government Area includes proper maintenance and repairs of ICT facilities, regular in-service training for computer teachers, monitoring ICT usage in schools by the government. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the government should provide budgetary allocation for the provision of ICT facilities, the school administrators should ensure the safety of the available ICT facilities by providing adequate security measures, internet service providers should provide free internet access to schools to enable them to utilize the available ICT facilities
Political Instability and Hiv/Aids Response in The South West and North West Region of Cameroon: A Qualitative Study
Background: Politically motivated violence and insecurity continue to be a major threat to HIV progress and a significant contributor to health inequality. Despite a decreasing HIV/AIDS disease burden, the Republic of Cameroon in West Africa is experiencing ongoing political instability in her North and South West Regions. Our study used qualitative methods to better understand key frontline health care providers' (fHCP) perceptions of the effects of political instability on HIV/AIDS response gains in Cameroon since 2018, as well as lessons learned for overcoming them.
Methods: Between July and August 2022, semi-structured, in-depth key informant interviews involving 10 purposively selected participants were conducted in the two regions. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim, coded thematically, and analyzed manually. Results: Six overarching themes emerged from the transcribed key informant interviews. They were as follows: (1) Challenge with access to and availability of health care services (HIV care, commodity supply chain) in the smaller communities; (2) Impact on continuity of treatment; (3) Increased risk of new HIV infections. (4) The socioeconomic impact of the crisis on the quality of life; (5) The impact of the crisis on fHCPs' physical and mental health and the health system'; and (6) Coping mechanisms
Conclusions: Frontline healthcare workers have acknowledged the significant impact the current political instability has had in hindering the development and advancement of a successful local response to HIV/AIDS in the two impacted regions of Cameroon. Coordinated efforts must be made to strengthen the health sector in areas such as HIV healthcare decentralization, supply chain, and protecting frontline healthcare workers from political quagmires in order to lessen the impact of the nation's socio-political crisis on the HIV/AIDS response and, more generally, on the entire health sector

Evaluation Of Peanut Skin Ethanol Extract As Protective Agent Against Lead Acetate Induced Reproductive And Neuromuscular Toxicities In Drosophila Melanogaster
Lead acetate exposure is known to cause reproductive and locomotor toxicities in various organisms, including Drosophila melanogaster. This study aimed to assess the ameliorative effects of peanut skin ethanol extract (PSE) against lead acetate-induced toxicities in Drosophila melanogaster. Fly body weight, larval locomotor activity, fecundity, and eclosion activity were evaluated as endpoints. Lead acetate exposure reduced fly body weight, larval locomotor activity, and fecundity, and hindered the eclosion of adult flies. Co-treatment with PSE at different concentrations (LP1, LP2, LP3) further exacerbated these toxic effects, except when co-administered with resveratrol (LR), which mitigated the lead-induced locomotor dysfunction and increased fecundity. Co-treatment with PSE (LP1, LP3) or PSE alone (P1, P2, P3) exceptionally mitigated lead-induced weight loss and increased the fly body weight. Treatment with PSE alone showed a reduction in larval locomotor activity and did not significantly affect fecundity or eclosion. The observed effects may be attributed to the fatty acid content of the peanut skin extract, sensitivity of neuronal pathways, and potential interactions with lead. These findings suggest that peanut skin ethanol extract may have limited protective effects against lead-induced toxicities in Drosophila melanogaster, and further investigations are warranted to understand the underlying mechanisms and potential implications for human health
Teaching language and literacy in Grade R: A focus on letters and sounds within a story-based programme

Recent PIRLS results highlight challenges with reading comprehension at Grade 4 level, but studies also show that many children are not acquiring alphabet knowledge earlier in their reading trajectory, and that these children are more likely to struggle with reading fluency and comprehension in later years (Wills, Ardington & Sebaeng, 2022). But why is learning about letters and the sounds they make proving to be such a difficult task for the majority of children in South Africa? When is the optimal time to be learning about letters and would it make a difference if alphabet knowledge had a stronger focus in Grade R?
Local and international research is clear: letter–sound knowledge is critical for learning to read and write in an alphabetic language (Snow, Burns & Griffin, 1998; Castles, Rastle & Nation, 2018). What remains controversial is when and how best to support children to learn about letters and the sounds they make. Drawing on research and best practice for teaching young children, this paper highlights the key principles that underpinned the development of materials to teach letter–sound knowledge in Grade R. These materials were developed as part of a story-based Home Language programme for the Gauteng Grade R Language Improvement Project, a provincial teacher training programme targeting all Grade R teachers in public ordinary schools, special needs schools and registered ECD centres in Gauteng.The Grade R Language and Mathematics Improvement Project is an initiative of the Gauteng Department of Education and its key partner, the Gauteng Education Development Trust. The project is managed by the JET Education Services with Wordworks and UCT's Schools Development Unit as technical partners. The Grade R Language Improvement Programme was developed by Wordworks with generous funding from the United States Agency for International Development and the Zenex Foundation.

Exploring the Potential of Artificial Intelligence for Supporting Indigenous Language Journalism Pedagogy in Nigeria
The African continent has more than 2100 indigenous languages, but many of them are not well- represented in the media. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology offers an opportunity to digitally incorporate these languages into news media and enable journalism pedagogy that emphasizes their use. However, there is limited research on how to integrate AI into journalism training in Africa, especially for indigenous languages. This study evaluates the benefits and challenges of integrating AI tools into journalism training in Nigeria to promote productivity and inclusion of indigenous communities in media content. Mixed research design via in-depth interviews was used to collect data from journalism schools in Nigeria, semi-structured survey with current journalist and secondary data available via AI tools. The findings suggest that using AI tools in journalism education can improve the quality of journalism and equip journalists with skills needed to succeed in the digital age. However, there is no immediate urgency to integrate native language journalism beyond entry level. A bureaucracy-free dynamic curriculum is needed to train budding journalists and retrain veteran practitioners, with funding for recent tools. Future research should broaden the scope and sample size to produce comprehensive and generalizable results for other AI contexts within and beyond Nigeria
Hybrid Quantum Algorithms and Quantum Software Development Frameworks
The choreography of quantum mechanical phenomena has catalysed accelerated advances in the emergence of a quantum computational substrate paradigm that yields the potential to solve some of humanities most complex problems through quantum computing speedup requires exponential computational power that exceeds that of today’s most powerful super computers, to confront the world’s most intractable computational challenges in environment, agriculture, health, energy, climate, materials science, precision medicine, autonomous vehicles in smart cities, renewable energy and problems humanity has not yet even imagined. Current quantum computational substrates are limited by circuit depth, noise processes, qubit count, and fault tolerant quantum computational substrates unlikely to be available in the near term. Hybrid quantum algorithms/Variational Quantum Algorithms (VQAs), operate by using a classical optimizer to orchestrate the parameters of a quantum circuit, have become a prominent approach to address these limitations. However, several challenges manifest that include the training, speedup. accuracy, and impactful practical application of VQAs. This paper reviews novel new frontiers in current VQAs, provides an analysis of VQAs, their strengths and limitations, and outlines potential applications in the quest towards yielding practical quantum advantage. Botswana Open Repositories Role In Sdgs Research Based Knowledge Sharing Process: A Bibliometric Analysis

The United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs), adopted in September 2015, are a global socioeconomic agenda that calls for collective action to achieve peace, prosperity, and well-being by 2030. The 17 goals and 169 targets of the SDGs were developed to succeed the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which ended in 2015 UNESCO (2021) At least 10 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) comprising the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development require constant scientific research. Scientific research knowledge has to share with respective research stakeholders. Open-access repositories facilitate access to scientific research (Sweileh,2020). Based on this fact, this study would like to examine the contribution of Botswana universities' repositories in promoting SDGs research practices to the scientific community and citizen scientists. The study will apply a descriptive bibliometric analysis by reviewing research publications on SDG from 2015 to 2022 from three Botswana universities' institutional repository collections. The bibliometric analysis will be conducted in three steps. The information will be searched and retrieved from three universities' institutional repositories ( University of Botswana, Botho University and Botswana International University of Science and Technology. The data will be retrieved by searching ("SUSTAIN ABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL*" or "SDG*") in the field "TITLE" or Abstract
