Towards an ecumenical model for Baptist ministry: Katowice, Poland, as a model
This is an analysis and theological discussion of biblical, theological and historical arguments confirming the thesis that the Baptist Church in Katowice is an ecumenical model in the Polish context, and it is good when various Christian traditions conduct a dialogue to implement Missio Dei - God's mission. Here, the definition of Christian ecumenism is understood as striving for the unity of Christ's disciples belonging to different Christian traditions based on the words of Jesus' prayer (John 17: 20-21). This definition is the one that the author of the thesis used in the ecumenical mission of the Baptist Church in Katowice and the region of Upper Silesia, a predominantly Roman Catholic region. It has proved to be a concise and helpful guide for this congregation in its ecumenical outreach, and serves, it is suggested here, as a model for other Baptist and evangelical Christian traditions to broaden their sense of mission and ministry
Striped Bass Morone saxatilis (Walbaum, 1792) population demographics and mixing in the Bay of Fundy
The use of population dynamics in fisheries management is a crucial tool to understand trends and appoint sustainable harvest rates. In the Bay of Fundy (BoF), Striped Bass Morone saxatilis is a highly prized
recreational fishery and aboriginal FSC fish. Striped Bass are found throughout Minas Basin, where they are believed to mix with U.S.A. Striped Bass populations. Mixing of these populations creates difficulties in
determining population structure which is required for implementation of effective conservation actions for Canadian stocks. Here we use catch data from 1981–2019, as well as mark-recapture to answer information gaps on population structure. Specifically, we address information gaps on movement, length frequency, weight-length relationships, and estimating growth using tag data. Our data suggests that 99.5% of bass tagged over 7 years did not leave the Minas Basin. Growth models were comparable to traditional length-at-age models with Francis and Wang models outperforming Fabens models. 183 tissue samples were analyzed using next generation sequencing (NGS), single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP)s and microsatellites and summary of mark-recapture studies since the 1930s to determine the presence and abundance of other
populations in the Minas Basin, and genetic origin of bass in Labrador and Annapolis River. Of the bass chosen for higher probability of migrancyanalyzed using SNPs ,99% were of Shubenacadie River origin, with one U.S.A. migrant, and no hybridization detected. Proportions in Annapolis River were 2.4% for both Saint John River and U.S.A. origin and 95.2% Shubenacadie River origin. Labrador bass (n=8) were of Miramichi River
origin, which is the first genetic evidence of Striped Bass expanding past its native northern range. Across the entire Atlantic coast into the BoF 48 (0.002%) transboundary recaptures have occurred from published studies using over two million external tags. These results indicate that U.S.A. migrants present in the Minas Basin are insignificant and the adjustment necessary for the Shubenacadie River population would be negligible
Blockchain: exploring perceptions of industry leaders on how distributed ledgers will disrupt assurance and consulting practices
Blockchain technology's original purpose was being the underlying technology for the Bitcoin cryptocurrency; however, its use cases and applications extend to many industries and functions such as accounting, auditing, and risk & management consulting. Current research lacks an industry informed perspective of blockchain technology's impact on the field of accounting. The paper aims to provide an overview of how blockchain will affect the roles of accountants, auditors, and risk & management consultants, as well as various industries and functions that impact accountants. I investigate the following research question: What do employees of a public accounting firm expect the impact of blockchain technology to be on the field of accounting and industries in Canada? A review of the literature was conducted and interviews with respondents helped identify research gaps, differences of opinion, and offered a new perspective to the current body of literature. Interviews with four blockchain specialists at a Big 4 accounting firm in central Canada were conducted. Thematic analysis was used, and five key themes were identified. This paper explores the five themes current and potential impacts of blockchain on the field of accounting, the challenges organizations are facing when implementing blockchain, industries that will be significantly disrupted, impacts on the roles of accountants and if new skills are needed in order to work with blockchain, and which types of blockchains (private, public, or hybrid) are best for accounting use cases
Caregiver sensitivity, embodied attachment, and their association with psychosocial functioning of adults during a global pandemic
This study explored caregiver sensitivity and embodied attachment and their relation to mental health symptomology, coping, and resiliency during COVID-19. This study involved 279 participants from the USA and Canada who completed an online survey. The present study expanded on the previous research of Dobson (2020) in studying coping and mental health symptomology from an embodied attachment perspective, but in a broader population. The present study also examined resiliency from an embodied attachment perspective, as there has been limited research in this area. The data were analyzed using bootstrapping regressions.
Significant three-way interactions between caregiver sensitivity, attachment avoidance, and attachment anxiety were found in predicting both depressive symptomology and resilience. These three-way interactions partially supported the hypotheses and give a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between caregiver sensitivity and adult attachment style as predictors of resilience and depressive symptomology
The art of self-deception: individual differences in death-thought accessibility following standard manipulations of mortality salience and delay
According to Terror-Management Theory (TMT), all people are afraid of death, whether they realize it or not. Despite this, people report varying degrees of fear of death. Are people who say they are not afraid of death in denial? The current study sought to test this hypothesis using TMT methodology. Accordingly, I assessed the extent to which people dismiss thoughts of death from focal attention following a death reminder (i.e., mortality salience; MS) using an implicit measure of death-thought accessibility (DTA). Participants (N=758) completed a pre-screening questionnaire assessing self-reported fear of death (FOD) and were randomly assigned to a 2 (MS v. control) × 2 (delay v. no delay) between-subjects factorial design. Results showed only an MS × Delay interaction such that DTA was heightened immediately after MS, but not after a delay. FOD did not moderate the results
Preparation of amino phosphonates for carbon dioxide capture and functionalization
Phosphonates with methyl, ethyl, and phenyl substituents were prepared from phosphorus trichloride and an alcohol with the corresponding alkyl or aryl chain. Dimethyl phosphonate was synthesized with the highest yield of 86% and with the best purity. Both dimethyl and diethyl phosphonates were used in attempts to synthesize bis(2-aminoethyl) phosphonate for carbon dioxide capture. These alkyl phosphonates, characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, both proved successful in synthesizing new phosphorus-containing compounds when combined with 2-aminoethanol in the presence of anhydrous hydrogen chloride or heat, but no methods produced only the target bis (2-aminoethyl) phosphonate. None of the synthesized products tested were found to be capable of capturing carbon dioxide

functionality from baseline. However, there has been very little research on the impact that this same environment might have on cognition and executive function; with the limited research that has been conducted proving inconclusive whether there is no change or a possible small improvement in performance. It is known that when exposed to microgravity there is a fluid
redistribution towards the cephalad (i.e. cranial) region, which in turn could possibly increase the blood volume being carried to this area of the brain. Traditionally, the protocol for the head
down face up (HDFU) bed rest model places the participant supine (positioned at a -60tilt) on a flat surface with their hands to their side. The present thesis literature review looks to determine
the current research that has taken place in this field, by examining the following areas; microgravity, fluid dynamics in the body, head-down face-up bed rest model, cerebral
oxygenation, cognition and executive functioning, and cognition and executive functioning in microgravity. Although the HDFU model is known to be effective in mimicking acute
microgravity for cardiovascular responses the next chapter, formatted as a journal article, looks to provide preliminary data on what the impact of rotating the participant to a head down face down (HDFD) position could have of the following physiological changes: blood pressure and heart rate, urinespecific gravity and pH, prefrontal cerebral oxygenation, facial puffing, and cognition assessed using a computerized Stroop task
An analysis of how print media portrayed drinking water advisories in Indigneous communities in Canada between 2006 - 2020
The issue of clean drinking water on Indigenous reserves in Canada has gained increasing relevance in recent years. As of March 9th, 2021, there were 58 long-term drinking water advisories in effect in 38 Indigenous communities (Government of Canada, 2021). This study focuses on how print media has reported on water security issues in Indigenous communities over the past 14 years
and was guided by the following questions:

Are drinking water advisories in Indigenous communities underreported?
2.
How does newspaper media frame the Indigenous water crisis? Do newspaper articles provide appropriate details into the causes, impacts and solutions?
A literature review determined if newspaper media reported on the same causes, impacts and solutions as scientists and academics. ProQuest Central Database was used to find relevant articles
in the Toronto Star, the National Post and The Globe and Mail, between the years of 2006 and 2020. Drinking water advisories affecting Indigenous communities in Canada were underreported in newspaper media, with only 182 articles published in all three newspapers, showing a severe inequality compared the Walkerton Crisis where 652 newsprint stories were published over a 2-year
period. Due to the majority of articles framing this water crisis as a political issue, placing blame on government inaction, important details into the causes, impacts and solutions are not mentioned
in newspaper media, failing to properly educate the public and gain importance on the Canadian political agenda. This study should guide newspaper media on how to report on Indigenous issues in the future
International students are hungry: an analysis on how systemic structures create food insecurity in among international students in rural Nova Scotia
Research has shown that international students are vulnerable to experiencing food insecurity in university. The purpose of this study was to understand the unique contributors of the food insecurity experienced by international students in a rural town. A political-economy theoretical perspective was used, along with the theoretical concepts of social stratification and capitalist neoliberal arrangements of the university, to explore the social and cultural relations of food insecurity experienced by international students in their everyday lives. A qualitative approach was used, and five semi-structured interviews were conducted with female international students from different ethnic backgrounds and countries of origin. Qualitative thematic analysis of interview transcripts revealed the unique contributors of food insecurity experienced by international students to be transportation inaccessibility, job instability, cultural food inaccessibility, and limited supports and financial aid. This thesis argues that while the international students interviewed originate from different parts of the world, they all experienced and reported similar occurrences of food insecurity while at university in Canada due to systemic and structural factors imbedded in government and institutional policy.</p
Putative stress biomarkers in Leach's Storm-petrel (Oceanodroma leucorhoa) during the breeding season
Organisms face stresses from all stimuli in their environment and when there is an inadequate response to adapt to environmental stressors it can reduce an individual's fitness. Protein biomarkers can be good
indicators of stress in vertebrates, including birds. I first review limitations to using glucocorticoids and corticosterone (CORT) as exclusive biomarkers for environmental stress, encouraging the exploration of alternative indicators, such as heat shock proteins and oxidative stress enzymes. I tested for stress responses in Leach's Storm-petrels, Oceanodroma leucorhoa (hereafter LHSP), on Bon Portage Island (43q 28'N, 65q44'W)
during the breeding season. Blood samples were collected from the brachial vein of 10 adults and 12 nestlings LHSP. I used SDS-PAGE to separate proteins in blood samples collected from LHSPs. Protein profiles were visualized using a ChemiDoc MP Imaging System and individual protein bands were putatively identified and compared against a ladder of known molecular weight. To identify proteins found in multiple individuals and those that were unique, four protein bands with molecular weights of 50, 60, 70, and 150 kDa were excised and sent for mass spectrometry. The mass spectrometry data will confirm if these bands are heat shock proteins or other metabolites, such as superoxide dismutase, and possible protein biomarkers. These data will contribute to our growing understanding of the stress response in birds and may assist in finding biomarkers of environmental stress in other avian models
