    Classification of Kinalabasa Tomato Using Convolutional Neural Network

    Determining the freshness of tomatoes is essential for evaluating their quality, impacting both consumer satisfaction and the economic benefits for farmers. Freshness is typically assessed by outer appearance, including color, size, and shape, with skin color indicating ripeness and influencing selling price. Properly assessing freshness also helps determine the shelf life of stored tomatoes. This study introduced an affordable and straightforward technique for classifying agricultural commodities using image processing, focusing on Kinalabasa tomatoes and classifying them based on color features into three categories. The study employed the MobileNetv2 architecture for training and testing the dataset, aiming to improve the classification of Kinalabasa tomatoes through deep learning techniques. The study evaluated the model\u27s performance using metrics like accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity. The optimal configuration for classifying Kinalabasa tomatoes was determined to be 10 epochs and a learning rate of 0.001. MobileNetv2 achieved a high accuracy rate of 94%, demonstrating its effectiveness in classifying tomatoes, though the specificity rate of 64% indicated some room for improvement in identifying negative instances. Comparing MobileNetv2 with ShuffleNet architectures will provide further insights into their respective effectiveness and performance in this classification task

    Spatial Analysis of African Swine Fever Outbreak: A Basis for Developing a Web-Based Decision Support System using Business Analytics and Geospatial Technology

    The Philippine hog industry, crucial to national food security and rural economies, is facing a major threat from African Swine Fever (ASF), a highly contagious disease that has devastated the domestic pig population since its emergence in 2019. The economic toll has been severe, with over 300,000 pigs culled to control outbreaks. Despite government efforts, including the declaration of a national state of calamity and various biosecurity measures, the response has been hindered by insufficient testing and weak monitoring mechanisms. This study proposes the development of a web-based decision support system (DSS) to enhance ASF management using Business Analytics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN). The system aims to map ASF outbreaks in real-time, identify disease hotspots, and provide actionable insights to various stakeholders, including veterinarians, farmers, and policymakers. It integrates descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support informed decision-making, optimize resources, and guide targeted interventions. The research uses Region 6, Western Visayas, as a case study, known for its high ASF outbreak rate and significant role in the national hog industry. The DSS employs spatial and non-spatial data, including outbreak trends and biosecurity protocols, and is evaluated by ASF professionals, IT experts, and policymakers to ensure its effectiveness in real-world applications. The system’s potential to improve outbreak forecasting and intervention planning is emphasized, with the goal of strengthening the resilience of the Philippine hog industry and contributing to global sustainability efforts. This study highlights the importance of integrating advanced technologies in managing ASF outbreaks, with a focus on data-driven decision-making to protect food security, promote public health, and support economic growth

    Faculty Acceptance and Adoption of Learning Management Systems (LMS) using the Extended Technology Acceptance Model (ETAM)

    This paper examines various factors that influenced the acceptance and adoption of LMS among the faculty of the selected State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Leyte and Biliran Provinces in the Philippines using the Extended Technology Acceptance Model (ETAM). Additionally, a cross-sectional survey, purposive sampling, and stratified sampling were all used in the study as part of a quantitative, non-experimental research design. A sample of 306 faculty members completed a Google Form survey. The mean, standard deviation, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, and one-way ANOVA were used in data analysis. Further, the study found significant relationships between faculty factors and their perceived ease of LMS use and LMS usefulness. In addition, the faculty members perceived that the ease of LMS use significantly affected their attitude toward using LMS. Likewise, the faculty members also perceived that the usefulness of LMS significantly affected their attitude and acceptance of the use of LMS. Similarly, their attitude toward using the LMS significantly affected their acceptance of the use of the LMS. Moreover, the study\u27s findings supported the validity of ETAM in measuring LMS acceptance and adoption

    Enhancing Service Efficiency and Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities: An Information Management System with SMS Notification in Libertad, Antique

    This research evaluates the effectiveness of a Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Information Management System with SMS notification implemented in Libertad, Antique, Philippines. The system aims to improve service accessibility and efficiency for PWD by providing a centralized platform for information dissemination and service delivery. The study utilizes the ISO/IEC 25010 Software Quality Model and McCall\u27s Software Quality Model to assess the system\u27s user experience and technical aspects, respectively. The findings reveal a generally positive assessment of the system\u27s quality, with high ratings for functional suitability, performance efficiency, compatibility, usability, and reliability. However, areas for improvement include security, maintainability, and portability. The paper concludes by discussing the benefits of the system for both the PWD population and the PWD office, highlighting the need for further development to enhance user profiling, real-time support, and data-driven enhancements. The study demonstrates the transformative potential of technology in promoting inclusion and improving the lives of individuals with disabilities

    Design and Development of Student Evaluation System for Faculty Performance in University of Rizal System

    The study focused on the design and development of a student evaluation system for faculty performance in the University of Rizal System (URS). The system is composed of several features pertaining to privileges of different user groups, such as for the system admin, staff, and students. The developed system was evaluated by the respondents from the URS Binangonan campus, which mainly consists of students enrolled in different courses from first year to fourth year level. A survey questionnaire checklist was used to determine the level of acceptability of the design and development of the student evaluation system for faculty performance and administered via Google Form. The questionnaire checklist was based on the ISO25010, or software product quality criteria, in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, usability, reliability, security, maintainability, and portability. Based on the result of the evaluation, it was found that the developed system was generally acceptable as perceived by the respondents. Moreover, the researcher concluded that the design and development of the student evaluation system for faculty performance was functionally suitable, performs efficiently, usable, reliable, secured, maintainable, and portable. Furthermore, the researcher recommends that the developed Student Evaluation System may be implemented and used as a tool for the conduct of faculty evaluation; improvements or enhancements may be applied to the areas that were deemed acceptable; and finally, further study may be conducted to measure its effectiveness and impact.

    Fund Allocation and Budget Utilization Rate in Relation to SUC Leveling Performance

    In the academe, the realization of desired educational goals and objectives counts largely on the effective planning and management of school funds by the school administrators. The amount of funds allocated to schools by the government and the budget utilization rate of the recipient are some factors to be considered in meeting the programs, projects, and activities. This study aimed to determine the fund allocation and Budget Utilization Rate (BUR) in relation to SUC leveling performance among technological State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) of Region VIII in terms of Personal Services (PS), Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE), and Capital Outlay (CO). The respondents were budget and planning officers in each SUC. Descriptive-evaluative research was utilized in this study since it assessed or examined the level of fund allocation and budget utilization rate in relation to SUC leveling performance. Percentage and mean were used to analyze the pertinent data, and coefficient correlation was applied to establish the significant relationships among the variables. Findings revealed that the bigger fund allocation with a correspondingly high budget utilization rate gave favorable SUC  leveling performance. It is suggested to incorporate a conceptual model that links Information and Communications Technology (ICT) that accounts for budget allocation and utilization in future studies

    AI-Powered Pedagogy: Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Information Technology Education for Future Workforce Readiness

    This study investigates the current state of Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in Information Technology (IT) education, including the adoption of AI-powered tools, the development of AI-related curricula, and the impact of AI on student learning outcomes. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines quantitative and qualitative data to analyze AI integration in IT education. Findings reveal a significant gap between current AI integration in IT curricula and the skills demanded by AI-driven industries. While respondents demonstrated improved critical thinking and problem-solving skills when engaged in AI-powered learning, challenges such as insufficient faculty training, inequitable access to AI tools, and inadequate emphasis on ethical considerations were identified. The study recommends expanding AI-related topics in curricula, incorporating hands-on learning opportunities, and equipping educators with skills for effective AI instruction. By addressing these gaps, this study contributes to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving the quality and accessibility of IT education and equipping students with the necessary skills for the 21st-century workforce. Moreover, it supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by preparing students for in-demand AI-related careers and contributing to economic development.

    Spatial Analysis Leveraging Geographic Information System and Kernel Density Estimation for Crime Prediction

    This study explored the potential of spatial analysis techniques to predict crime hotspots and coldspots within the province of Antique, Philippines. The unique blend of geographical features (coastal and mountainous regions) and socio-economic characteristics in Antique presented a compelling opportunity for the research. Crime data from 2018 to 2023, encompassing direct assaults, homicides, murders, and parricides, was acquired from the Police Regional Office 6. Using Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) software and Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) algorithms, the researchers analyzed these crime records. The findings highlighted a positive trend – a decrease in direct assaults over the study period. However, homicide data presented a more concerning picture, with specific locations consistently reporting higher rates. While murder cases showed a decline, parricide incidents remained relatively low, with occasional fluctuations. In conclusion, this data-driven approach, utilizing advanced crime analysis tools, offers valuable insights for policymakers in Antique. By investing in such technology and adopting data-driven strategies, policymakers can work towards creating a safer and more secure future for their communities

    Design and Development of Electronic Document Archiving System

    The study focused on the design and development of an Electronic Document Archiving System for the University of Rizal System. This document management system allows users to organize and access files in electronic format. This developed system was assessed by the teaching and non-teaching staff from the URS Binangonan campus. An adapted survey questionnaire checklist was used to determine the result of the performance of the developed system and administered via Google Form. The questionnaire checklist was based on the ISO 25010 or software product quality criteria, in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, usability, reliability, security, maintainability, and portability. On the design and development of the system, Rapid Application Development Software Development Life Cycle was utilized. On the assessment of the respondents on the developed Electronic Document Management System, it was found out that in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, usability, reliability, maintainability, and portability, which were obtained with a weighted mean of 3.35, 3.44, 3.34, 3.42, 3.38, 3.49, and 3.31 and verbally interpreted as acceptable. Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, it is recommended to modify the performance of the Electronic Document Management System as acceptable with respect to ISO 25010 – Software Quality Standards that were found weak by the IT experts, faculty, staff, and school administrators in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, usability, reliability, maintainability, security, and portability
