    Bridging the Gap Between Universities and Alumni: A User-Centered Evaluation of a Digital Alumni Engagement Platform

    Universities face an ongoing challenge in fostering meaningful connections with their alumni communities. This paper presents the development and evaluation of the Alumni Tracer and Engagement Hub, a web-based platform designed to bridge the gap between universities and their alumni. The study employed a comprehensive approach, utilizing McCall\u27s Software Quality Model for technical evaluation during the development and testing phases. Following deployment, a user-centric evaluation assessed the platform\u27s effectiveness in achieving its objectives. This evaluation leveraged the ISO/IEC 25010 model and gathered feedback through surveys and interviews with alumni, administrators, and staff. The evaluation results revealed a strong technical foundation, with high marks for security, self-documentation, code clarity, and user-friendliness (McCall\u27s model). User feedback (ISO/IEC 25010 model) indicated positive experiences with core functionalities like functional completeness, performance, and learnability. However, areas for improvement were identified in the user interface aesthetics, clarity of element purpose, and user perceptions of data security. This paper discusses these findings and proposes recommendations for optimizing the platform\u27s user experience, strengthening data security measures, and ensuring long-term technical maintainability. By implementing these recommendations, the Alumni Tracer and Engagement Hub has the potential to become a valuable tool for universities to strengthen alumni connections and build a thriving alumni network

    Enrollment Appraisal Using Rule-Based Decision Support System

    This study explores the development and evaluation of a web-based enrollment appraisal system utilizing a rule-based decision support system for universities and colleges. Designed for the context of Antique, Philippines, the system leverages a two-tier architecture for efficient processing and secure data management. A user-friendly interface guides applicants through the enrollment process, while a secure server and rule-based engine analyze data against pre-defined eligibility criteria. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology ensured a user-centered design with iterative development cycles incorporating user feedback. Evaluations using McCall\u27s Software Quality Standard and the International Organization for Standardization and International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 25010 standard revealed the system\u27s strengths in technical aspects (security, usability) and overall functionality. User feedback highlighted areas for improvement in interface design, clarity, and user perceptions of data security. The study concludes that the system offers a promising approach for more efficient and transparent enrollment processes. By addressing the feedback received, the system can be further enhanced to improve the user experience and build trust among applicants

    Gender Roles and Difficulties of Students Towards the Process of Research in the College of Computer Studies

    The research is for Laguna State Polytechnic University, on the 4th year BSIT students of the College of Computer Studies enrolled in the Methods of Research. The College of Computer Studies – Research Manual, aligned with the LSPU Research thrusts and priorities, implements the mandated four-fold functions, namely instruction, research, extension, and production. Some unexpected difficulties and problems led to the study, which aimed to analyze and provide information and interventions to address the students’ difficulties encountered in their research processes. The procedures of the study were categorized into main themes and sub-themes for students who encountered difficulties. Using data analysis on thematic exploration, the findings revealed that the respondents encountered personal problems relating to school expenses, a lack of interest, and a negative attitude toward the research. The results are on emotional problems encountered, such as excessive stress in doing academic tasks and low self-esteem or not believing in one’s capabilities. To address these difficulties based on the results, the author provides solutions and interventions that the College of Computer Studies should address: research capacity-building workshops, mentoring and support programs, regular feedback with evaluation, access to resources, incorporating ethical considerations, and gender equality initiatives

    Acceptability of AutoBeaut: An Automated Judging System for Beauty Pageants Throughout the Five Years Operation

    The Philippines is a home of hospitable, peace-loving, beautiful, handsome, and intelligent people. Beauty contests are always part of traditions and in celebrating festivals, fiestas, and other social activities. When the beauty contests are done, people often feel disappointed in the results because errors usually occur in the manual computation of the scores. As a result, the judges are oftentimes commented as biased, that judges have their proteges, and favoritism prevails. Thus, with the advent of technology, AutoBeaut was developed, intended for barangays, municipalities, organizations, and institutions. The contests consist of different categories to be competed in by the candidates, and every category has its own criteria. The application runs on desktop computers and mobile phones. The pageant\u27s results will be sent to the server, and the tabulated results will be printed. The Prototyping Model was used in the development of the system. The system was used in the different beauty pageants, especially for organizations or agencies requesting the Pageant Computerized Tabulation System. This is one of the extension activities of the College of Computer Studies, particularly the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. The system is important in computing, tabulating, and monitoring the scores given by the judges to every candidate. Results would be readily accessible once the judges entered the points garnered by candidates. It will lessen and hasten the work of the judges and statisticians and provide fast, accurate, valid, and reliable results that can be retrieved anytime if somebody needs the computation for reference. The system was tested and evaluated by the respondents based on ISO 25010 and rated as “Very Acceptable” among the different criteria set

    Resilience and Adversities: The Case of HEI Faculty and Students

    The goal of this study was to look into the Higher Education Institution’s (HEI) faculty and students’ resilience and adversity amidst challenges in life. A descriptive correlational research design was employed in this study, with data drawn from the faculty respondents having a normal level of resilience while the students have low resilience in facing adversities. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between gender, age, and marital status with the resilience level of the faculty. However, there is a negative correlation with gender and marital status to the level of students’ resilience. Thus, it is recommended to have interventions on some factors such as promoting the well-being of the graduate faculty and students, internet connectivity problems, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) literacy in using the new learning modality

    Text Messaging as an Instruction Support on Spelling Performance of the Learners

    The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of text messaging on the spelling performance skills of the learners in selected elementary schools. It utilized the descriptive method of research to explore the prevailing or existing condition as to the extent of text messaging and the spelling performance of the learners. The findings revealed in the dictation and written test of the learners that their spelling skills highest frequency was “Good.” Further, the results showed a highly significant relationship between the extent of cellphone use on text messaging and the spelling performance of the learners. However, some of the participants contradicted the views mentioned, according to them, using a cellphone in texting can be used as a tool to enhance the spelling performance of the learners due to the built-in features of grammar and spelling. Therefore, it is concluded that text messaging can be used as a tool to support instruction in the spelling skills of the learners. Further, it is recommended to give full guidance on the proper usage of a cellphone to appropriately correct the learners’ spelling skills

    A Modified Cane for the Blind using Computer Vision

     This study aimed to develop “A Modified Cane for the Blind using Computer Vision” that can detect possible objects and obstacles from the surroundings. A collection of a large image dataset to develop a model has been divided into three (3) datasets with the ratio of 70% for training, 20% for validation, and 10% for testing. The model was used for a mobile application to detect objects from the surroundings. A series of designs for a mobile application and a modified cane were created until the final prototype was made. The ultrasonic sensors, micro-controllers, and other electronic components were connected and tested for effectiveness and accuracy. The final prototype of a modified cane and the mobile application were combined to create a system called “a modified cane for the blind using computer vision.” The effectiveness of the system was evaluated by five (5) IT experts and five (5) blind persons in terms of functional suitability, reliability, performance efficiency, usability, security, compatibility, maintainability, portability, and the overall result with a mean of 4.46. The results of the evaluation show that the overall mean was “Excellent.” This implies that the system is effective and meets ISO 25010 standards in terms of software quality

    Development of Online Counseling Appointment System for Guidance Office of the Office of Student Affairs and Services at Cavite State University-Main

    Every guidance counselor finds remote appointments an important tool for managing appointments since it allows them to establish a list of available time slots, see student information, and make appointments without ever leaving their office. This online counseling appointment application provides students with media-related mental health activities and stress-coping skills that are relevant to the university’s counseling services. Specifically, it has the following features: (a) provides information to the students related to some guidance on how to cope with stress; (b) generates reports to be used by a guidance counselor in providing insight they need to effectively counsel so many students; and (c) helps the guidance counselor extend their counseling service to the student. The descriptive research approach was used with JavaScript as the scripting programming language and MySQL as the database. The prototyping software approach was also used, allowing the researcher to come up with additional ideas rapidly, improve on them quickly, and show users the feature and overall design concept before implementation. The evaluation findings show that the system was "excellent" in both evaluations using modified ISO 9126 software product quality standards, showing that the developed application met all of the required requirements of the software quality test from respondents. The mean and standard deviation were used to tabulate, analyze, and statistically treat the results. Overall, the results and feedback indicate a good impact on the needs of guidance counselors

    Real-time Water Level Monitoring System in Oriental Mindoro Using Neural Networks

    Oriental Mindoro faced an environmental problem that was caused by the massive rains from the highlands of the city. The lowlands cannot prepare for the upcoming floods with manual prediction and based on instinct. A water monitoring level was setup in three different rivers that end the streams in the city of Oriental Mindoro. This study focuses on the development of a real-time water level monitoring system to help with disaster preparedness in Oriental Mindoro. The dataset collected was from the provincial government, which shows the diversity of data that can be correlated to predict if a flash flood will occur. The dataset was tested using different algorithms such as Gradient Boosted Tree, SVM, Decision Tree, and Neural Networks. The prediction of the Neural Network model’s accuracy is 98.61%, which is 0.6 percentage points higher than the Gradient Boosted Tree and more than the rest of the algorithms

Using optical character recognition (OCR) and machine learning, the app accurately digitizes and scores handwritten test responses, improving grading speed and accuracy. Key features include student registration, exam creation, paper scanning, correction key generation, and item analysis for question performance. The app functions offline, ensuring accessibility without internet connectivity. By reducing manual errors and processing times, it supports educators in delivering faster feedback and aligns with UNSDGs Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 9 (Innovation)
