On-line loss and global efficiency simulation tool for electric vehicles applications

    No full text
International audienceThis paper is dedicated to control-based energy optimization tools useful for the electric vehicles (EVs) propulsion chain, which puts in interaction an electric motor and its energy source static converter. It is essential in energy optimization studies to build an accurate simulation model that takes into account all possible losses of the propulsion chain components according to the operating point. For that reason, the present work provides an accurate loss analysis solution, by studying the various elements losses of an electric traction chain motorized by an Electrically-Excited Synchronous Motor (EESM). The machine power balance is established while taking copper and iron losses into account. Moreover, the inverter and chopper losses are evaluated while using a model based on a novel technique that consists in creating a modified version of output voltages affected by the inverter and chopper losses. Finally, all losses data are gathered in order to simulate the system on-line losses distribution and global efficiency for different operating conditions

Relationships Between Vertical Jump and Composite Indices of Femoral Neck Strength in a Group of Young Women

    No full text
International audienceThe purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between vertical jump and composite indices of femoral neck strength (Compression strength index (CSI), bending strength index (BSI) and impact strength index (ISI)) in a group of young women. 206 young women (18 to 35 years) voluntarily participated in this study. Weight and height were measured, and body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Body composition, bone mineral content (BMC), bone mineral density (BMD) and trabecular bone score (TBS) were determined for each individual by Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Composite indices of femoral neck strength (CSI, BSI and ISI) were calculated. Vertical jump was evaluated using a validated field test (Sargent test), and maximum power (P max, in watts) of the lower limbs was calculated accordingly. Vertical jump was positively correlated to CSI (r = 0.36; p < 0.001), BSI (r = 0.30; p < 0.001) and ISI (r = 0.33; p < 0.001). After adjusting for weight, vertical jump remained positively correlated to CSI (p = 0.026). The correlations between vertical jump and bone variables disappeared after adjusting for fat mass. The current study suggests that vertical jump is a positive determinant of composite indices of femoral neck strength in young women

Clinical phenotype, fibrinogen supplementation, and health-related quality of life in patients with afibrinogenemia

    No full text
International audienceAbstract Due to the low prevalence of afibrinogenemia, epidemiologic data on afibrinogenemia are limited, and no data are available on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We conducted a cross-sectional international study to characterize the clinical features, the fibrinogen supplementation modalities, and their impact on HRQoL in patients with afibrinogenemia. A total of 204 patients (119 adults and 85 children) from 25 countries were included. The bleeding phenotype was severe: 68 (33.3%) patients having at least one bleed per month and 48 (23%) a history of cerebral bleeding. About 35% (n = 72) of patients were treated with fibrinogen concentrates or cryoprecipitates as prophylaxis, 18.1% (n = 37) received ≥1 injection per week, and 16.6% (n = 34) were on home treatment. A thrombotic event was reported in venous and/or arterial territories by 37 (18.1%) patients. Thrombosis occurred even in young patients, and recurrence was frequent (7.4%). The total HRQoL was lower in children than in adults. Discomfort linked to treatment and limitations to sports and leisure were the main concerns. Women and children were particularly affected in family relationships. In multivariate analyses, younger age, residence in Asia or Africa, and a previous thrombotic event were statistically correlated with a worse HRQoL. In summary, our study underlines the severe bleeding and thrombotic phenotype and their impact on HRQoL in afibrinogenemia. The optimal strategy for fibrinogen supplementation needs to be determined. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as #NCT03484065

Virtual Guia Fortress: A 3D-printed eXtended Reality Playset

Part 2: Works in ProgressInternational audienceThis paper reports a work-in-progress that explores the use of 3D-printing for marker-based Tangible User Interfaces for use with smartphone-based eXtended Reality experiences. We have explored several ways to 3D-print matrix markers that are re-configurable so that the underlying values can change with user interaction. We have also applied 3D-printed markers to the development of a modular playset for exploring the Guia Fortress cultural heritage site in Macau SAR, China. We report some of the explorations of 3D-printed markers and describe the Virtual Guia Fortress playset

Antibacterial and Bonding Properties of Universal Adhesive Dental Polymers Doped with Pyrogallol

    No full text
This study investigated the antibacterial activity, bond strength to dentin (SBS), and ultra-morphology of the polymer–dentin interface of experimental adhesive systems doped with pyrogallol (PY), which is a ubiquitous phenolic moiety that is present in flavonoids and polyphenols. A universal adhesive containing 4-META and 10-MDP was used in this study. PY behaves as an antioxidant and anti-cancerogenic agent and it was incorporated into the adhesive at different concentrations (0.5 and 1 wt.%). The antibacterial activity and SBS were analyzed and the results were statistically analyzed. The ultra-morphology of the polymer–dentin interface was assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). At 24 h, a lower antibacterial activity was observed for the control adhesive compared to those with 0.5% and 1% PY. No difference was seen in SBS between the three groups at 24 h. After 6 months, the SBS of the 0.5% PY adhesive was significantly lower than the other tested adhesives. The specimens created with 1% PY adhesive presented a higher bond strength at six months compared with that found at 24 h. No morphological differences were found at the polymer–dentin interfaces of the tested adhesives. Pyrogallol may be incorporated into modern universal adhesive systems to preserve the polymer–dentin bonding interface and confer a certain degree of antibacterial activity
