AI-Based Low-Cost Approach for Cardiac Anomaly Detection

    No full text
International audienceContinuous cardiac monitoring is essential for high-risk patients, enabling early anomaly detection and timely medical interventions. However, traditional ECG systems are often cost-prohibitive and lack widespread accessibility. This study explores the feasibility of a low-cost cardiac anomaly detection device using AD8232 sensors, ESP32 microcontrollers, and embedded AI for real-time signal analysis. Drawing on the authors' previous research in electrical signal characterization for device identification and AI applications in embedded systems, as well as current literature on ECG-based monitoring, the present study discusses key technical challenges and possible approaches for system implementation, including signal acquisition, processing, hardware selection, and computational performance. A DIY approach is adopted to foster community-driven innovation and facilitate the system's replication and further enhancement. The results indicate that the proposed device is not only technically viable but also has the potential to democratize access to continuous cardiac monitoring, thereby making a significant contribution to the healthcare field

The House of Lords Reform: Labour’s Constitutional Holy Grail?

    No full text
International audienceAt first glance, the Labour Party, given its founding doctrine, could only be resolutely opposed to the House of Lords. However, the experience of government and the specific features of the British Constitution and political culture have led it to adopt more tempered ambitions. This gave rise to a tension between initial intentions and realpolitik, which divided the party. Reforming the aristocratic component of the United Kingdom’s mixed Constitution has been a constant feature of Labour’s manifestos, but it has only resulted in reforms that align with the strategies of the Liberals and Conservatives in gradually evolving the powers and composition of the House of Lords. The 2025 reform definitively ending hereditary peerage serves as yet another illustration of this trend

Nash Equilibrium in Discontinuous Games: A Weakening of Reny’s Robust Better-Reply Correspondence Property

    No full text
International audienceThis paper weakens the notion of robust better-reply correspondence property introduced in [Reny, P. J. [2020] Nash equilibrium in discontinuous games, Annu. Rev. Econ. 12, 439–470] to prove the existence of pure strategy Nash equilibrium in compact convex discontinuous and possibly nonquasiconcave games. Our weakening of this property is satisfied by a large class of these games and our equilibrium existence results strictly generalize the most important ones in the literature, namely those obtained in [Reny, P. J. [2020] Nash equilibrium in discontinuous games, Annu. Rev. Econ. 12, 439–470; Reny, P. [2016b] Introduction to the symposium on discontinuous games, Econ. Theory 61, 423–429; Carmona, G. and Podczeck, K. [2016] Existence of Nash equilibrium in ordinal games with discontinuous preferences, Econ. Theory 61, 457–478] (in a special case), [Reny, P.
