Enhancing teaching and learning of community college physics: A teacher's perspectives on blending universal design and flipped classroom
This self-study through narrative inquiry was based on a constructivist theoretical framework to investigate how the blending of universal design and Flipped Classroom impact on teaching and learning in a community college physics classroom setting through the viewing lens of a course instructor. The investigative interests were focused on the perspectives of the students’ learning experiences as individuals, the instructional content development and student learning assessments. The students’ learning experiences investigation was based on five categories: inclusive learning, student engagement, attitude towards learning, competence towards learning and learning comprehension. The instructional content development approach was based on two UDL methods I have developed. The first method was through blending SOLO Taxonomy and Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development for content development and the second method was through blending Bloom’s Taxonomy and Depth of Knowledge for progressive knowledge development. Student learning assessments were conducted through a method based on blending two formative assessment methods: Concept Mapping and Think-Pair-Share. The research purpose of this study was to find a way to enhance teaching and learning of community college physics
