Review and experimental comparison of generative adversarial networks for synthetic image generation
The application of machine learning algorithms has become widespread particularly in fields such as medicine, business, and commerce. However, achieving accurate classification results with these algorithms often relies on large-scale training datasets, making data collection a lengthy and complex process. This paper reviews the current utilization of generative adversarial network (GAN) architectures and discusses recent scientific research on their practical applications. The study emphasizes the significance of addressing data scarcity in the process of training the machine learning algorithms and highlights the potential of advanced GAN architectures, in particular StyleGAN2-ADA, to mitigate this challenge. The findings contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency and applicability of artificial intelligence across diverse domains by presenting a viable solution to the constraint of limited training data for image classification tasks
Perception study of the conservation and utilization of Linpan cultural landscape heritage: the case of Dujiangyan City
Linpan has a long history of over 2,300 years and is a unique cultural landscape heritage of the Chengdu Plain derived from the Dujiangyan hydraulic engineering. As urbanization has gradually degraded the Linpan landscape over the past decades, the government is helping to revitalize the local countryside by preserving it. The purpose of this study was to understand the perceptions of Linpan indigenous villagers about its conservation and use, and to investigate the differences in their perceptions and the factors influencing them. The city of Dujiangyan, located at the source of the Dujiangyan Irrigation Area, was taken as the case study area, and a questionnaire survey and quantitative analysis were adopted. The study shows that Linpan indigenous villagers generally support the protection of water systems and fields; Linpan’s vacation and health and wellness functions are recognized by villagers; and regarding Linpan land use, villagers generally prefer to take the form of land market transfer and are willing to transfer arable land and homestead. This also confirms differences in the villagers’ perceptions of the conservation and utilization of Linpan in different locations due to their divergent characteristics. This study provides a reference for the villagers’ perspective on the planning and action of Linpan conservation and use, suggesting the importance of villagers’ distinguishing factors in cultural landscape revitalization
Effects of evergreen trees on mental restorative quality of winter landscapes
Compared with other seasons, winter usually has low mental restorative quality due to the lack of greenness. Reasonably adding evergreen trees to winter landscapes can improve the quality. However, what proportion, species and planting site of evergreen trees are better for mental restoration? To address this question, two original pictures (describing two landscape types) and 24 manipulated pictures (including three categories and four grades of proportion of evergreen trees) were collected, and 381 respondents were employed to score the mental restorative quality of each picture. The results revealed that planting evergreen trees in the landscape with water was more efficient in promoting mental restoration than planting them in the landscape without water. Adding broad-leaved evergreen trees was much better than adding coniferous trees and the mixture of the two. And, for the landscape with water, moderate proportion of evergreen trees possessed significantly higher mental restoration than low or high proportion
Development of cost functions for wastewater treatment by sequential batch reactor
Sequential batch reactor is widely used for industrial wastewater treatment. To consider sequential batch reactor for biological treatment of wastewater at a specific site, it is essential to ensure economy and sustainability. An approach for scrutiny of economic aspects may be based upon use of cost functions to compare sequential batch reactor and other technologies. Such approach will enable to conduct prudent analysis and select the most economic treatment scheme for a particular project. In most of published studies, the cost functions for conventional wastewater treatment systems are described with historic or some other data available to the investigators. No detailed engineering exercise related to cost functions for sequential batch reactor is cited in earlier research studies. In this document the novel and appropriate methodology has been presented to develop cost functions based on engineering, estimation and statistical approach to forecast cost for sequential batch reactor based wastewater treatment system
Spatio-temporal evolution and driving factors of landscape pattern in minority villages: a case study of Zahan Village in Hainan Province
Ethnic minority settlements, as an important medium for the transmission of ethnic cultures, are also a key resource for accelerating the development of ethnic minorities and the regions where they are located. Currently, research on landscape patterns focuses on traditional villages and ancient villages, whereas there is a relative lack of discussion on ethnic minority settlements. This study focuses on the multi-ethnic Zahan Village in Hainan Province, adopting the analysis methods of landscape pattern index and land-use transfer matrix, based on the theoretical framework of landscape ecology, to systematically analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of the landscape pattern of the village and its patterns between 2007 and 2022, and to qualitatively analyze the influencing factors of its landscape changes from two dimensions, namely, humanities and nature. Research findings: (1) As the dominant landscape type, the proportion of woodland (although decreasing year by year) still exceeds 80%, whereas other land types, such as watersheds and grasslands, are gradually transformed into construction land and arable land, whose increment is significant. (2) During the study period, Throughout the study period, the landscape homogeneity of Zahan Village became better and better, the landscape types tended to be richer, and the spatial heterogeneity of the landscape also increased. (3) The area of woodland landscapes shows a decreasing trend from year to year, whereas construction land and arable land show an overall increasing trend, and the area of watersheds and meadows also decreases slightly. (4) The village landscape is mainly spatially “clustered,” concentrated in the center and southern part of the village, with a few “dots” distributed in the east and northwest, and the overall trend is spreading from the center to the periphery. (5) The evolution of village landscapes is influenced by a combination of human factors, including demographic, economic, and policy factors, as well as natural geographic factors, such as topography, climate change, and precipitation. The study provides theoretical support and practical guidance for the sustainable development of Zahan Village, as well as valuable experience and inspiration for the optimal development of other minority villages
Measurement of electrical conductivity and resistivity of Cu-Nb18% microcomposite conductor and its welded joint
Systems generating strong magnetic fields are widely used in modern fundamental and applied research as well as in the most innovative industrial processes. These devices generate magnetic fields that reach 5–100 T and the conductors are subjected to a huge Lorentz force, so the conductor material must be extremely strong (UTS ≥ 700 MPa) and have a good specific electrical conductivity (IACS ≥ 60%). Since traditional conductors such as copper, aluminum, gold, and silver cannot withstand such loads, microcomposite materials have been developed that are characterized by such high strength and good specific electrical conductivity. This paper reviews the specific electrical conductivity and specific electrical resistance characteristics of conductor and factors affecting them, methods of measuring these electrical characteristics as well as properties of Cu-Nb18% microcomposite conductor. This paper also describes the methodology for measuring the specific electrical conductivity and specific electrical resistance of the Cu-Nb18% microcomposite conductor solid and with welded joint (welded by using butt welding). The comparison of application possibilities of used methodologies and obtained characteristics was carried out.

Santrauka

Municipal solid waste collection and transportation routing optimization based on IAC-SFLA
In order to realize the efficient collection and low-carbon transport of municipal garbage and accelerate the realize the “dual-carbon” goal for urban transport system, based on the modeling and solving method of vehicle routing problem, the municipal solid waste (MSW) collection and transport routing optimization of an Improved Ant Colony-Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm (IAC-SFLA) is proposed. In this study, IAC-SFLA routing Optimization model with the goal of optimization collection distance, average loading rate, number of collections, and average number of stations is constructed. Based on the example data of garbage collection and transport in southern Baohe District, the comparative analysis with single-vehicle models, multiple-vehicle models, and basic ant colony algorithms. The multi-vehicle model of collection and transportation is superior to the single-vehicle model and the improved ant colony algorithm yields a total collection distance that is 19.76 km shorter and an average loading rate that rises by 4.15% from 93.95% to 98.1%. Finally, the improved ant colony algorithm solves for the domestic waste collection and transportation path planning problem in the north district of Baohe. Thus, the effectiveness and application of the proposed algorithm is verified. The research result can provide reference for vehicle routing in the actual collection and transport process, improve collection and transport efficiency, and achieve the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction
