    Toward a lightweight high-speed fin: structural and flutter analysis for thickness reduction

    Reducing the mass of supersonic aerodynamic surfaces is a critical challenge in the development of high-speed rockets to further their potential range. This study presents the redesign of a supersonic fin with the primary objective of reducing its thickness from 25 mm. Two designs are investigated, with thicknesses of 10 and 12 mm, respectively, to ensure structural integrity under extreme flight conditions. A comprehensive computational approach is employed, combining static structural analysis, modal analysis, and aeroelastic analysis. Modal analysis is validated through an experimental method using a hammer impulse test for modal frequencies. The 10 mm rocket fin cannot withstand the static load simulated under the flight condition of 15-degree angle of attack, maximum operational flight speed of Mach 3.27, and air density at sea level. The 12 mm thick fin meets the requirements and demonstrates a flutter speed of Mach 11, significantly exceeding the required flutter speed of Mach 3.99. This research highlights the feasibility of substantial weight reduction in supersonic fins without compromising stability, offering a pathway for future advancements in lightweight, high-speed control surfaces

    Sustainability and carbon footprint evaluation at university: case study of VILNIUS TECH

    Because of a societal push towards sustainability a problem emerges of adapting the concept to different sectors of the economy and society. The differing complexities of different fields and social structures make it difficult to create a universal sustainability strategy. Higher education institutions (HEIs) consist of a broad range of people, working in various fields of industry, making it an appropriate cross-section of the nation. Adapting sustainability practices in these institutions would allow to screen for successful policies before implementing them more widely, detecting most effective practices, allowing a faster transition towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is hard to decide where to start, as many sustainable practices exist. This article presents the case study of VILNIUS TECH and conducts a comparison with universities in the region, determining best sustainability practices. The Greenhouse gas (GHG) protocol standard was used to form the emission inventory. The university comparison will help identify effective HEIs carbon footprint minimization practices, as well as other implemented policies as an example of where HEIs should start on their road to a more sustainable institution

    Culinary resilience in a globalized world: how social norms negotiate tradition and adaptation

    Purpose – This study investigates how macro-level forces and micro-level cultural constructs shape food culture resilience in different societies. It bridges the knowledge gaps between cultural preservation and adaptation. Research methodology – PLS-SEM methodology was adopted in the survey data of six countries. Bootstrapping verified path coefficients and model robustness. Findings – Cultural Openness supports Heritage, preventing globalization from disempowering myths. Social Pressure drives food culture resilience (FCR) in collectivistic cultures yet is diluted in individualistic settings. Taboos subside in secular/pluralistic settings, replicating trends for moral flexibility. Enhanced predictivity for institutionally institutionalized civilizations facilitates easier observation by the models of modest to considerable FCR variation. Research limitations – Cross-sectional data limit causal inferences. Unmeasured variables could also affect outcomes in transition countries. Practical applications – Strategies should be implemented with cultural correctness by policymakers and marketers. For instance, leveraging openness to redefine traditions in multicultural settings, framing dietetic interventions as collective efforts in collectivist contexts, and customizing products with flexible ethical schema in secular settings. Originality/Value – This research fills macro-micro cultural theory gaps, suggesting “adaptive preservation” as a driver of traditions in a globalizing world.     Challenging human creativity: an exercise of co-creation with generative artificial intelligence

    This paper explores the collaborative potential between humans and generative artificial intelligence in creative contexts through a co-creation framework. The study uses ChatGPT to develop narrative elements such as slogans, taglines, and claims for university marketing programs, comparing human-generated and artificial intelligence-generated content to evaluate effectiveness and engagement. Results indicate that while artificial intelligence can contribute useful and creative content, human participants still prefer human-generated narratives in many instances. The study also highlights how generative artificial intelligence can enhance creative processes by accelerating ideation and reducing cognitive load, but it raises concerns regarding the originality and diversity of artificial intelligence-generated content. This research provides insights into the integration of artificial intelligence in collaborative creative work and suggests best practices for leveraging artificial intelligence tools in marketing and communication strategies

    Building algorithms and classification thresholds for objects from point cloud data to create 3D city models

    This article aims to develop an improved algorithm for classification of point cloud data. The primary component of this algorithm is determination of the classification thresholds for different geographical objects, which helps in the automatic classification of the LiDAR point cloud data. The algorithm was tested to classify the point cloud of three different areas of Ha Long city in Quang Ninh province. The results from the three areas show that for the ground points our algorithm is on average 6.4% more accurate than the traditional progressive TIN densification (PTD) algorithm. Further, with the proposed point cloud classification algorithms the average accuracy for asphalt roads is 87.77%, 98.09% for vegetation, and 96.86% for roof objects. The classified roof objects were further processed for house digitization, which provided an average accuracy of 92.07%.     Developing standards for surveying, measuring, and mapping underground objects using the GPR method for Vietnam

    In the context of rapid urbanization, detailed investigation of underground objects in the shallow layer is very important for safe and efficient urban planning, construction, and operation. With many outstanding advantages, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology has been increasingly applied worldwide in shallow geophysical surveys. However, in Vietnam, applying GPR for surveying and measuring objects in the above spatial range is only in its early stages, and there are no official standards or regulations. This paper uses the GPR method to develop technical standards for investigating and mapping underground objects within 0–6 m depth. The research methodology includes synthesis analysis of international standards, expert consultation, and field experiments. The main results of the study include: (1) Proposing a 9-step detailed GPR survey process; (2) Specific technical regulations for GPR survey work; (3) Classification of 4 quality levels of products (QLB1-QLB4) with specific requirements; (4) Guidelines for representing and presenting maps of underground objects. This standard will be the first document to standardize the application of GPR in measuring and acquiring information on underground objects in Vietnam, contributing to promoting the widespread application of GPR technology in practice

    Property price and anti-social behaviour: An empirical study of Northern Ireland

    This study examines the impact of anti-social behaviour (ASB) on property prices. By analysing over 14,500 market transactions in Northern Ireland, we find that the prevalence of ASB within a neighbourhood exerts a direct and negative influence on house prices, albeit with diminishing effect at the margin. Furthermore, the dampening effects of ASB are more pronounced in districts characterised by higher population density, proximity to the capital city (Belfast), and lower property values. A thorough analysis of district-level data across a wide range of statistical indicators further indicates that the adverse impact of ASB on property prices is most acute in areas marked by social and economic deprivation, including factors such as income, employment, education, and access to services. Lastly, our submarket analysis suggests that the apartment sector and public housing are disproportionately affected by ASB in terms of price depreciation compared to other property types

    Relevance of the real estate agent in the Spanish residential market in the age of digitalisation

    Digitalization has reshaped the real estate industry, significantly transforming the role of the agent. In an era of disruptive technologies, real estate agents face both new challenges and opportunities, where adaptability and the integration of digital tools are essential for success. This article examines how digitalization has influenced the agent’s role and assesses its importance in the brokerage process from the customer’s perspective. Self-administered online surveys have been used for data gathering, obtaining 412 valid responses from people who have participated in the process of buying or selling a property in Spain. Results reveal the need for the agent who still plays a decisive role in the buying and selling process and is considered well prepared, providing confidence for many clients. Digitalization has redefined the agent’s profile, requiring a combination of technical and human skills and the importance of empathy and personal contact has become crucial. Those professionals who incorporate technology while focusing on delivering an exceptional customer experience will be the ones who thrive in this new era of digitalized real estate. The manuscript enriches academic literature on the importance of the real estate agent in a country such as Spain where it has been hardly studied

    Aesthetic perceptions in architecture and urban design: bridging art and function

    The philosophy of art, particularly its focus on beauty, underpins how aesthetic judgments are formed in architecture and urban design. However, overlapping philosophical orientations can cloud the criteria used to evaluate buildings and urban spaces. Drawing on Kant’s perspective, free beauty refers to design expressions relatively unconstrained by functional rules, whereas restricted beauty involves specific guidelines or ends that shape aesthetic outcomes. This study hypothesizes that clear standards and rules can unify these judgments in architecture and urban design, ultimately fostering coherent urban results. Using a descriptive–analytical methodology, the research compares instances where aesthetic judgments lean more toward free beauty–emphasizing creativity and artistic freedom–with contexts where external provisions (e.g., engineering codes, heritage statutes) reinforce restricted beauty. In doing so, it outlines key differences between purely artistic evaluations and those also subject to engineering or regulatory norms. By clarifying how free and restricted beauty apply in different scenarios, this work addresses an existing knowledge gap: while architectural products may blend both free and restricted elements, urban design typically adheres more tightly to rule-based frameworks. The findings suggest that better-defined aesthetic guidelines can ensure functional and visually integrated outcomes in modern architectural and urban practices

    Business ambience for implementing Just-in-sequence strategy – the automotive industry in Serbia: case study

    Persistent issues in the automotive industry – such as delivery delays and frequent stock-outs – indicate that the vision of perfectly synchronized flows of raw materials, parts, and components within complex industrial production and logistics systems remains a significant challenge. To mitigate demand variability and uncertainty, companies often maintain high levels of safety stock, which significantly increases costs and erodes competitiveness. At the same time, such supply chains are characterized by limited responsiveness, resulting in unfulfilled targets related to reduced lead times and reliable customer deliveries. As a response, supply chains in the automotive sector are increasingly opting for the implementation of Just-in-Sequence (JIS) strategies to ensure adaptation to diverse product requirements and cost savings, as well as enhance both responsiveness and efficiency. Within this context, the objective of this research is to identify key elements necessary for the successful implementation of the JIS strategy in an automotive company. The research findings reveal notable differences in the perceptions of employees from Production, Logistics, and Sales sectors regarding the importance of the analysed variables and the potential for implementing a JIS strategy
