Accuracy assessment of a three-dimensional model obtained using the LiDAR sensor of the iPhone 13 Pro Max
Scanning of an educational classroom was performed using the LiDAR sensor of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Comparison was conducted between the lengths of lines and coordinates determined from the model scanned by the LiDAR sensor with precise data measured using the Leica TCR 405 ultra electronic total station and determined from the model created photogrammetrically from images captured with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 camera. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of distance and spatial positioning was calculated for the LiDAR-scanned model
The role of networking competencies in social enterprise performance
Purpose – The goal of this research was to identify the need for networking competencies in social enterprises rated by the managerial personnel of social enterprises and academic staff of universities in Latvia.
Research methodology – A survey among representatives of Latvian social enterprises and academic staff of Latvian higher education institutions (HEIs) was conducted. The data was processed by means of average ranking, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and one-way-ANOVA test.
Findings – The analysis of the results of Latvian survey revealed that: 1) social enterprise per- sonnel and university academic staff rated the role of networking competencies in social enterprise performance differently; 2) social enterprises rated cooperation with local governments higher and with industry associations as less important than the group of university academic staff.
Research limitations – The research is limited to the analysis of only networking competencies.
Practical implications – The research results contribute to the institutional framework for the social entrepreneurship ecosystem through recommendations to universities in creating training programmes of social entrepreneurship competencies.
Originality/Value – The conducted empirical study is the first study of its kind in the Latvian social enterprise ecosystem, and it offers unique data that can be used for planning the development of networking competencies
Pentahelix in the creative city: the case of fine arts development in South Jakarta, Indonesia
The emergence of the creative economy as a new economic wave in Indonesia has led to implementing of various policies and strategies since 2006. In particular, South Jakarta, Indonesia, has been designated as a creative city focusing on developing the fine arts subsector. The findings reveal that the development of South Jakarta as a creative city for the fine arts has met the minimum prerequisites required for a creative city in Indonesia. The city has emphasized effectiveness, efficiency, and adequacy in developing the fine arts subsector. The study sheds light on the readiness of South Jakarta’s creative city, which heavily relies on the involvement of the local government and creative communities. Overall, this research offers valuable insights into the roles of the local government and creative communities. It also highlights the need to actively involve academics and the media in the city’s creative city development endeavours
Does China’s housing supply-demand relationship impact urban innovation capability
Unlike existing literature that explores the impact of house prices on urban innovation, this paper skillfully examines the relationship between the housing market and urban innovation from the perspective of the housing supply-demand (S-D) relationship. Utilizing panel data from 284 prefecture-level cities in China spanning from 2005 to 2020, this study investigates the respective impacts of housing supply, housing demand, and their interplay on urban innovation capacity (UIC). Our findings indicate that housing supply positively influences UIC, with a coefficient of 0.060; specifically, for every 1% increase in housing supply, UIC increases by 0.06%. Similarly, housing demand also significantly affects UIC, with a coefficient of 0.060, suggesting that a 1% increase in housing demand corresponds to a 0.060% rise in UIC. However, we observe a significant negative effect of the housing S-D relationship on UIC, with a coefficient of –0.049, indicating that an increase in the housing S-D ratio detrimentally impacts urban innovation. Furthermore, our analysis reveals that as the housing supply-demand ratio rises, house prices also tend to increase. Additionally, we identify heterogeneity in our results, indicating variations in the housing supply-demand ratio’s impact on the innovation capacity of cities across different regions
Residential satisfaction indicator: Latin American evidence
Latin American construction companies, particularly in Ecuador, operate in a highly competitive environment. In this context, achieving customer satisfaction is a primary objective for the success of real estate projects. This research aims to develop a comprehensive residential satisfaction index that includes sustainability dimensions, based on global satisfaction indices and structural equation modeling. This study will enable residential builders to assess their performance from the customer’s perspective and make strategic decisions aimed at improving quality, which, in turn, will lead to greater customer satisfaction in future projects. The findings of this research will provide valuable input for decision-making in the real estate sector, with a focus on the Latin American context
The impact of basic traffic flow characteristics on traffic accident occurrence on 2-lane rural roads in Serbia
Basic traffic flow characteristics, such as volume and speed, represent the key criteria for estimating the level of service and traffic safety. Numerous studies have been conducted with the aim of determining the impact of the basic traffic flow characteristics on traffic accident occurrence. However, the mutual impact of traffic volume and speed characteristics has not been examined to a sufficient degree. Therefore, the authors of the article analysed the mutual impact of average annual daily traffic (AADT), share of heavy vehicles in the traffic flow (%HV) and speed parameters (such as speed variance , average travel speed (ATS), speed limit credibility and percentage of exceeding the speed limit (%ESL) on traffic accident occurrence on Class I 2-lane rural roads in the Serbia. The article analysed spatial distribution and traffic accidents′ severity on homogeneous segments equipped with automatic traffic counters, which provided data on speeds and other traffic flow characteristics during a 5-year period. The application of generalised linear models led to the development of 3 negative binomial models with an natural logarithm (ln) link function for the (1) total number of traffic accidents (ACT), (2) property damage only accidents (ACPDO) and (3) injury and fatality accidents (ACI&F). The obtained results show that 3 variables are statistically significant in all 3 final models: (1) AADT, (2) and (3) difference between the free-flow speed and speed limit . All variables included in the final models are positively associated with the dependent variable. In other words, the rise of the values of AADT, and variables increases the expected number of traffic accidents. The variable related to the %HV is statistically significant in the models related to the ACT and traffic accidents with injuries and fatalities, and it is positively associated with the expected traffic accident number
Component definition innovation plan as a tool to allow flight simulator training device roadmapping
The use of flight simulators as a complement to pilot training offers significant advantages in reducing costs and risks associated with aircraft accidents, in addition to increasing safety and situational awareness during the practical phases of flight. However, the development of equipment to support pilot training has been carried out with an exclusive focus on this application, overlooking the exploration of alternative uses or new business opportunities that could diversify revenue streams and foster innovation. In this study, a method was developed to identify components that support the Technology Roadmapping process. The application phases are described, and each step is illustrated with a case study on developing a flight simulator training device. The results present potential markets, products, technologies, resources, and partners, forming a framework for innovation planning in aeronautical flight training. Specifically, the potential for implementing affordable full-motion flight simulators is examined, including applications in amusement parks for leisure, incentive flights for new crew, providing a passenger flight experience in the context of advanced air mobility, and, primarily, referencing flight centers to enhance airmanship skills and flight safety
Blade element – momentum aerodynamic model of a helicopter rotor operating at low-Reynolds numbers in ground effect
The general objective of this paper is to present the initial results obtained as an outcome of applying a coupled Experimentally Derived – Blade Element Momentum Theory (BEMT) model for evaluating the airflow-defining parameters of a hovering helicopter rotor close to obstacles and making performance predictions. Several empirical models are described, and proper comparison with the experimentally obtained data is conducted. In detail, the characterization of the rotor inflow ratio (λ), when operating at fixed rotational frequency (n), at different relative distances to the ground (H/R), varying the pitching angle (θ) is discussed. The dependencies show an increase in the rotor inflow ratio parameter (λ), when increasing the collective pitch angle (θ) in hovering regime at fixed constant relative distance to the ground surface (H/R). On the contrary, the inflow ratio (λ) is experiencing a decline once the helicopter rotor operates closer to the ground surface. Moreover, the inflow ratio characterization (λ) along the blade span can be applied to the total generated thrust (T). As a result, the corresponding thrust coefficients (CT) are calculated and graphically represented. The overall characterization of the thrust coefficients (CT) will allow the definition of the ground effect zone
An analysis of the Indian Economy during the three COVID-19 pandemic waves
The objective of the study was to examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on India’s economy. The analysis focused on several economic metrics, including stock market prices, the rupee’s value in relation to the US dollar, economic activity, the unemployment rate, and the rate of inflation. Contrary to popular belief, the results demonstrate that during the first wave (25 March 2020 to 16 September 2020), the increasing number of cases had a beneficial influence on economic activity and a negative impact on the unemployment rate. The second wave, which lasted from 15 March 2021 to 17 July 2021, was considerably stronger and demonstrated how confirmed instances had a significant detrimental impact on inflation rates and stock values. Contrary to expectations, the third wave (December 28, 2021, to January 30, 2022) was found to be less intense. Overall, the report shows how the pandemic affected India’s economy during each of the three waves and notes that there have been encouraging signs of recovery during the return to normalcy phase. The government, scholars, policymakers, and economists will find this study useful in understanding how the COVID-19 Pandemic affected the Indian economy and in coming up with ideas for future risk mitigation measures.

Influence from highways on regional economic growth – based on the trade potential in China
The question of whether the construction of the highway network is economical and can produce positive economic benefits has been a hot topic of discussion in recent years. Previous scholars have explored the impact from multiple perspectives. Our paper draws the “trade potential” model proposed by Armstrong, based on the universal gravity model and the principle of space interaction, which is different from the traffic accessibility, market potential, and market access used in most of the literature. We argue that it is more appropriate to consider both the size impact and the time distance or trade cost impact of the two cities. The paper constructs a conceptual framework and theoretical model for the impact of highways on regional economic growth, measures the “minimum transit time” of highways between prefecture-level cities in China, and calculates the trade potential of prefecture-level cities. Through corresponding empirical model testing, we have obtained some meaningful conclusions.
