Using Chebyshev’s polynomials for solving Fredholm integral equations of the second kind

    Get PDF
The main problem with the Newton method is the computation of the inverse of the first derivative of the operator involved at each iteration step. Thus, when we want to apply the Newton method directly to solve an integral equation, the existence of the inverse of the first derivative is guaranteed, when the kernel is sufficiently differentiable into any of its two components, through its approximation by Taylor’s polynomial. In this paper, we study the case in which the kernel is not differentiable in any of its two components. So, we present a strategy that consists of approximating the kernel of the nonlinear integral equation by a Chebyshev interpolation polynomial, which is separable. This allows us to explicitly calculate the inverse of the first derivative operator in each step of the Newton method and then approximate a solution of the approximate integral equation

Evaluating impacts of ICT development on wages of workers

    Get PDF
At the provincial level, there is a research gap in discussing the causality and internal mechanism between ICT development and wages of workers. The study utilizes the province-level balanced panel data over the period 2006–2021 in China, clarifies the impact and internal mechanism of ICT development on wages of workers, and uses the DID method to identify the causality between the two. This study found that there is a positive correlation between ICT development and workers’ wages, and skill level is a mediate transmission channel. Moreover, ICT development has a positive impact on workers’ wages in the central and western regions. Besides, compared to low-wage workers, high-wage workers gain more information dividends. The findings of this study have reference significance for policymakers. First, for the central and western provinces in China, it is necessary to actively develop the ICT industry, cultivate high-tech enterprises, and improve local ICT development levels. Second, we should improve the skill level of workers and enhance their competitive advantage in employment. Third, each province should continue to expand the enrollment scale of higher education institutions, and improve the quality of labor force. First published online 09 September 202

Financial inclusion in the digital era: a key driver for reducing income inequality

    Get PDF
Growing income inequality remains a pressing phenomenon in many developing economies, especially Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), and may cause discontent in achieving inclusive growth which is crucial for sustainable development. Economies turning to financial inclusion as a critical component of economic development where access to formal financial institutions and services remains limited in the region. Digital technology has the potential to advance financial inclusion by tapping technology to extend financial access to underserved populations, as lack of access to efficient financial products and services can perpetuate income disparities. We employ a generalized quantile regression with an instrumental variables framework to investigate the distributional effects of financial inclusion and digitalization on income inequality in the region. Results imply that the use and adoption of the internet and mobile phones contribute to reducing income inequality, highlighting the transformative potential of digitalization across different quantiles. The findings indicate that public expenditure favors distributional impacts on inequality across quantiles. Our study suggests that policymakers in the region should prioritize the adoption and use of digital technology and foster an enabling policy that encourages the development of digital infrastructure and financial services to ensure widespread access and benefits for all segments of the population. Inflation and global supply chain pressure in Eurozone: a time-varying causal analysis

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to analyze the causal relationship between inflation and global supply chain pressure in the Eurozone. In contrast to the full-sample causality method, this paper utilizes the bootstrap subsample rolling window causality method to account for structural changes. Initially, the computed vector autoregressive models demonstrate that the short-term relationship between inflation and global supply chain pressure is unstable. The dynamic causal relationship is reexamined in the subsample rolling window causality test using a time-varying method (RB bootstrap-based modified-LR causality test). The results indicate that inflation is influenced by the expansion of global supply chain pressure in a variety of sub-periods, with both positive and negative effects. Conversely, inflation fluctuations increase the uncertainty of the Global Supply Chain Pressure Index. The novelty of the findings is that they illustrate bidirectional causal relationships between the two variables, which is in contrast to the existing body of empirical research that does not support the direction of causality. The implications of these findings emphasize the need to implement appropriate monetary policy measures in order to mitigate the inflationary consequences of disruptions in the global supply chain and to ensure a more stable supply chain network

Purpose – This study was conducted to understand the potential of cashless subsidy to reduce illegal underground economy activity in Indonesia. Research methodology – The research was done through a qualitative approach then analyzed based on the content analysis and sentiment analysis using Digital Public Services Index frim Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) research methodology as base. The data used on this study are Indonesia e-news on kompas.com, detik.com, and tempo.co from March 2021- 2022 using two keywords “subsidi” (subsidy), “non-tunai” (cashless) and “nirsentuh” (contactless). Findings – The result of this study shows illegal underground economy activity can be reduced by implementing cashless subsidy policy.  Research limitations – The data used on the research were big data obtained from e-news be- cause the lack primary reliable respondent. We could not estimate the cashless subsidy after COVID-19 was ended in Indonesia because the declaration of the end of COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia was on 29 June 2023. Practical implications – This study also provides two recommendations for those problems: (a) increase digital financial literacy awareness; (b) improve the formal economy activity. Originality/Value – There still no specific research of cashless subsidy and their practice in shad- ow economy perspective, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia.&nbsp

The artistic creativity trends of the contemporary theatrical process are aimed at complicating forms, deepening meanings, expanding the space for creating a new theatrical form, and, as a result, searching of the creative solution to comprehend the results of such experiments. Since contemporary theaters are targeted at developing and creating new performances, it is necessary to understand the potential of visual drama in the context of equality and effectiveness of all stage visual elements. As a variant of the adequate language search for the theater and society communication, visual dramaturgy becomes one of the fundamental in the context of the contemporary Kazakh theater development. In this study, the authors set out to identify and analyze the colour and body movement in their interaction on the example of the Kazakh national play Kyz-Zhibek (Kazakh: Qyz Jybek) directed by Dina Zhumabayeva in 2020, as it is visual intertext and reminiscence, addressed to the viewer reflection. As a creative solution to the study of the colour and body movement relationship in the visual network of signs organization of the play Kyz-Zhibek, such methods as semiotic analysis, vectorization by Patrice Pavis and the method of visual dramaturgy by Knut Ove Arntzen were used. In the study, we followed the goal of clarifying how the director creates and fills colour with body movement, strengthening and expanding meanings, and how this process can be studied and analyzed in order to be used for communication with the audience and in further contemporary theater studies
