Corporate environmental responsibility in China\u27s high-pollution industry: the power of investor

    Get PDF
We use Chinese A-share listed firms in the high-pollution industry from 2013 to 2021 as the research sample to explore the impact of investor attention on corporate environmental responsibility. We find that investor attention positively affects corporate environmental responsibility. The primary mechanisms involve increasing executive environmental awareness and strengthening government environmental regulations. Further, we find that financing constraints weaken this positive relationship, while political connections and institutional shareholders strengthen it. The conclusions remain consistent after adopting an alternative measure of the core variable, changing the regression model, and utilizing the 2SLS method. We also provide suggestions for corporate environmental responsibility from both governmental and firm perspectives

Artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on a large array of economic and social facets has recently become one of the most debated topics both in academic and civic environment. Existing literature varies from topics touching on the AI ethics to the future of the labor market. Current research highlights significant divergences and a lack of consensus on the future implications of AI, leading to a heterogeneous perception among the general public. In this context, our research explores the intersection between AI and its profound impact on the labor market, focusing on business students’ perceptions of AI impact on skills, productivity and employment dynamics. The study examines how personal AI competencies, risk perception, and anticipated economic effects of AI technologies shape labor market expectations using structural equations modelling. Seven hypotheses were tested which summarize the correlations between six reflective constructs. Findings reveal that students generally perceive AI positively, recognizing its potential to increase organizational efficiency and work productivity. Our research highlights the dual impact of AI, exploring students’ perceptions of the effects of AI on society, organizations and the labor market and revealing the key links between these views and efficiency

    Get PDF
The impact of human resources development (HRD) on business performance is critical for enterprises, but there’s limited analysis of the specific factors affecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in terms of human resources development management (HRDM). This paper aims to identify the key HRDM factors influencing SMEs’ performance from two perspectives: individual employee development and organizational development. It also categorizes entrepreneurs based on these factors. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and cluster analysis using the K-means method were applied in analysis of data from SMEs. For individual development, three factors were identified: Development practices, career growth, and rewards systems. Based on these, SMEs were grouped into three clusters: career and rewards-focused SMEs, development and career-oriented SMEs, and development-focused SMEs. Career Growth was found to have the greatest impact on performance. For organizational development, three factors emerged: Training, Talent Development, and Work Systems. Analysis yielded three clusters: training and work systems-focused SMEs, talent development-focused SMEs, and work systems-focused SMEs, with training being the most influential for organizational performance. The study highlights the importance of HRDM strategies for different groups of SMEs to enhance performance and deepen the understanding of HRDM’s role in SMEs, showing the complex relationships between these factors and overall firm success

The banking sector in the Western Balkan countries has changed dramatically in recent years. A variety of factors have contributed to these changes, such as economic growth, increased competition, and the implementation of new regulations. As a result, the profitability of the banking sector varies greatly between countries. The purpose of this research is to look into the impact of internal and macroeconomic factors on the profitability of the banking sector in the Western Balkan countries. The research used 85 observations from unbalanced panel data from five countries from 2005 to 2021. Data were gathered from the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook Database, which contains information on the trend and progress of banking in the Western Balkans. The variables used included macroeconomic variables, internal bank variables, and industry variables, with return on assets and return on equity used to measure bank profitability. Panel regression with pooled least squares, fixed effects, and random effects was used to analyze these variables. Internal factors such as bank Z-score, 3-bank asset concentration, bank net interest margin, bank overhead costs to total assets, bank credit to deposits, and bank capital to total assets have a positive impact on profitability, according to the findings. GDP and inflation, for example, have a mixed impact on profitability. The impact of industry factors such as liquid assets, deposits, and short-term funding, as well as bank Z-score, on profitability is mixed. The study’s findings have significant implications for policy experts and bank managers in Western Balkan countries. The findings can be used by policymakers to create policies that promote the profitability of the banking sector. The findings can be used by bank managers to improve their banks’ profitability by making strategic decisions about asset allocation, capital structure, and risk management

    Get PDF
This study examines the economic implications of Russia-Ukraine conflict has had on business operations in Ukraine and Lithuania. It seeks to examine how businesses have responded to the turmoil emanating from the conflict by breaking down disruptions in supply chains, regulatory adjustments as well as changes in market needs with specific reference to energy, agriculture and manufacturing sectors. The research will analyze secondary data from industry reports, financial disclosures and government sources. We chose this method so that we can evaluate what is presently there without the complexities and biases that come with collecting primary data using methods such as interviews. At the center of this dissertation lies unearthing patterns plus strategic insights that would inform businesses practices for similarly turbulent climates. Thus, it should be noted that the key thrust of this particular work is to extract strategies and tactical recommendations which could help keep firms resilient to geopolitical risks as well as exploit any arising advantages. The results are expected to be relevant for lawmakers, corporate executives, and economy planners thereby broadening their strategic frameworks on business operations within areas characterized by wars. This proposal is looking for funding support for comprehensive data analysis aimed at developing informed strategies that might considerably change sustainability and growth paths of enterprises both in Ukraine and Lithuania. Therefore, reliance on documented evidence alongside rigorous analysis of data will assist us in understanding how these economies operate in challenging contexts like these; providing essential knowledge required not only for theoretical debates but also suggesting ways towards enhancing economic resilience during times of geopolitical conflicts

    Get PDF
As the cultural heritage of a country, the texture of vernacular villages is the main factor that forms the vernacular landscape. These textures provide visual values that play a determinant role in presence and residence continuity in rural areas. However, many vernacular landscapes of foothill villages in Iran have become problematic due to interferences and a lack of proper management mechanisms. It is essential to formulate a theoretical framework for parameters affecting the vernacular landscape protection to handle the development process and preserve this precious heritage. This is an exploratory study in terms of nature and is descriptive-survey research in terms of data collecting method. The statistical population comprises 31 experts in architectural and rural fields who were interviewed through a non-random network method. The techniques used in this study include content analysis, Delphi, and correlation, and the collected data are analyzed using SPSS software through Q factor analysis, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. The results show that 9 factors can be extracted based on the priorities and mental patterns of the experts for visual organization: adaptability, coordination and orderliness, visibility, comfort, permeability, compatibility, legibility, attractiveness, and landscape. Among the mentioned factors, the higher explained variance percentage (14.097%) belongs to adaptability. According to the obtained results, 99.4% of variations in the vernacular landscape have been explained by these 9 factors among which, visual attractiveness and visibility have the highest effect on vernacular landscape protection in foothill villages with impact coefficients of 0.318 and 0.279, respectively at the significance level of 99%

    No full text
The popularity of electric scooters as an individual means of transport results from their availability in the urban sharing system, ease of movement in the city and reduction of driving time compared to other means of passenger transport. The user can choose from a whole range of vehicles with different driving range and equipment with elements increasing the functionality of using the scooter. The article presents a proposal for changes to the design of a typical electric scooter. The main objective of the work is the engineering design of suspension and braking systems, in particular the swing arm suspension of the front and rear wheels and an additional disc brake. Increasing the diameter of the wheels and equipping it with a front and rear suspension system allowed for the reduction of vibrations and shocks transferred to the vehicle when driving on uneven surfaces. The results of analytical calculations confirming the positive effects of the introduced modifications were included. Adding a disc brake allowed for shortening the braking distance from 13.7 to 8.9 m, which has a positive effect on driving safety. A Finite Element Method (FEM) strength analysis was also performed, the results of which confirm the correctness of the new design. The modernized design improved the ride comfort and safety of using the electric scooter. First published online 9 February 202

    Get PDF
The paper examines the price volatility, key determinants, and autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) framework of Romania’s Intraday Continuous Market (IDC) during the summer months. The stability of the ARDL-ECM coefficients is assessed using the cumulative sum (CUSUM) test. We explore the interaction between IDC and Day-Ahead Market (DAM) prices, alongside the influence of economic and environmental variables, including traded volumes, consumption, export/import and the generation mix. Using hourly data and econometric techniques, we identify significant short- and long-run relationships between IDC prices and their drivers. DAM prices exhibit a strong positive impact on IDC prices, reflecting tight market integration. Higher shares of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) such as wind and solar are associated with increased IDC prices, highlighting challenges in integrating intermittent resources. Conventional sources, particularly coal and oil/gas, also elevate prices due to higher marginal costs. Conversely, electricity consumption is negatively related to IDC prices, suggesting that anticipated demand patterns may contribute to system stability. The findings carry implications for policymakers, indicating a need for enhanced forecasting, flexible resources and improved inter-market coordination to ensure price stability and efficient integration of RES
