    Profesja. Derrida i uniwersytet

    Get PDF
This paper is an attempt to recapitulate the main themes in Jacques Derrida’s thought on the university. The author focuses on The University without Condition (presented for the first time in 1998). The paper briefly recounts the philosopher’s involvement in educational institutions (GREPH, Collège International de Philosophie). Next, there is an analysis of the distinction between the future (futur) and the future-to-come (l’avenir), as well as the related opposition between profession (profession) and craft/trades (métier). The strategy of conceiving the university as the topolitical place of resistance is revealed using Derrida’s deconstruction of the repeater figure (agrégé-répétiteur). The paper ends by presenting an analogy between the condition of structural atheism and the obligation of the university to create a possibility for an event (beyond the constative/performative opposition)

This article presents the existence in human life of the proximate dimension, which constitutes a distinctive space. The author proves that a complete model of the dimensions in which individuals and collectives exist must include a fifth dimension. Symbolically named the open, primary or archetypal dimension, it complements the four dimensions already distinguished: public, social, private and intimate

Złoty kurz. O jednej metaforze Bolesława Leśmiana

    Get PDF
The topic of this paper is the golden dust metaphor in Bolesław Leśmian’s poems, fairy-tale prose, essays and plays. It is interpreted as one of many variations of the black sun trope, the gnostic and alchemical symbol for the unity of oppositions and for transformation. Analysis of Leśmian’s metaphor leads to the conclusion that his writing corresponds to gnosticism and alchemy. It takes up the concept of material concreteness, nudging the reader to combine oppositions and transmutation. Acting through words, through tropes, reflects the performative status of Leśmian’s creative work

    Small talk

    Get PDF
The poem Small talk conjures up a communicative situation in which the main character, a newcomer from Poland, answers conventional questions related to their country. Bearing in mind the fact that this poem is set during a military dictatorship, superficial interest in his homeland may trigger a feeling of impatience. This is at least the impression formed if we adopt the perspective defined within the romantic tradition, and when taking into account the conventional poetry of martial law in Poland. Nevertheless, Barańczak retains an ironic distance towards such communicative situations and, as a consequence, does not create poetry that meets most readersʼ expectations. His poetic imperative for verbal art to be the expression of mistrust remains valid

Świat jako zadanie dla inteligenta. O dwóch wierszach Stanisława Barańczaka (Spójrzmy prawdzie w oczy, Grudzień 1976)

The analysis in this article focusses on two of Stanisław Barańczak’s poems in the context of the writer’s biography, i.e. the fact that he was an intellectual, poet, translator and essayist, as well as an opposition activist and one of the co-founders of the Workers’ Defence Committee (Komitet Obrony Robotników). The starting point is a reference to Czesław Miłosz\u27s essays entitled Life on the isles and Immorality of art, in which the Nobel prizewinner ponders the role of the poet in the contemporary world. The poems discussed in this article are presented as one of the possible forms through which the 20th-century ethos of the intellectual is realised

Szymon Wróbel’s considerations are situated at the intersection of philosophy, psychoanalysis and politics. The author uses the term “retroactivity” (nachträglich), known from the writings of Freud, to describe the way in which the individual transforms experiences from the past in their memory, reworks them, and gives them a new meaning, congruent with current needs and expectations. This also applies to reading, each of which fits in the project which the reader realises. Lektury retroaktywne (Retroactive readings) is a constant and often surprising clash of many different - authors’ concepts, regardless of their origins: a game of questions and answers challenged immediately by new questions. This philosophy must be a dialogue – hence its dramatic nature. Wróbel recalls, confronts and deconstructs the texts of such thinkers as Thucydides, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Nietzsche, Foucault, Levi-Strauss, Chomsky and Piaget. He also acquaints the reader with significant diagnoses of philosophers associated with speculative realism
