„Kicz, kiczyzm” Justyny Bargielskiej
The article develops the analysis of recurrent kitschy motifs in poetry and prose by Justyna Bargielska. This authoress consciously and intensively takes advantage of pop-cultural kitsch, kitsch connected to maternity and femininity, sacrokitsch and consolatory kitsch used in mourning practices. She derives many fetishized objects from these areas and transforms them into private talismans; she also borrows many established pop-cultural visions that serve her heroines to create their identity, but sometimes these patterns become a costume for individual fears and phantasies. The term ‘kitschism’ was invented by Bargielska herself and it suggests intellectual distance towards the figures and requisites used. The writer’s attitude towards kitschy cliches is developed as a dialectical movement of attraction and repulsion, and is not meant to overthrow dominant stereotypes; this approach is often similar to camp strategies, yet it extends beyond ludic or ironic games. Bargielska is interested mainly in the anthropological aspect of kitsch, which is situated between the individual and the community. The writer tests the usefulness of cliches while confronting her heroines with the most serious subjects, like death, love or loss. The article develops the analysis of recurrent kitschy motifs in poetry and prose by Justyna Bargielska. Najkrótszy kurs tragikomedii PRL: Rejs Marka Piwowskiego
The tragicomic finale to a costume ball on a ship sailing into night-time darkness was already ‚conceived’ when passengers first stepped onto the gangway. The Cruise is a mix of genres (as was known from the ancient geneological theory of genus mixtum), because situational comedy and sociodrama co-create a genre as broken as tragicomedy, hence „If Rejs is considered a comedy, do not forget that it is a mocking comedy, streaked with despair, as bitter as gall” (Marek Hendrykowski). The tragicomic finale to a costume ball on a ship sailing into night-time darkness was already ‚conceived’ when passengers first stepped onto the gangway. Zwi(ch)nięte koło radykalnohermeneutyczne
The article is an interpretation of the traditional figure of the hermeneutic circle made from the perspective of John D. Caputo’s radical hermeneutics. It begins with a recapitulation of the most important modern positions on the hermeneutic circle, which postmodern hermeneutics radicalizes, noting the impossibility of its closure or fulfillment. Movement in the postmodern hermeneutic circle takes place not between the parts and the whole, but only between the different parts. Thus, one might say that this circle is twisted, and this has a dual meaning. It evokes Jacques Derrida’s interpretation of a phrase from Hamlet, “time is out of joint”, but it also plays with the meaning of the twist, which can be understood as a Verwindung: the impossibility of the transgression beyond modern hermeneutics. The article is an interpretation of the traditional figure of the hermeneutic circle made from the perspective of John D. Rumuńska choroba na śmierć. Kilka uwag o hermeneutyce cielesności (na przykładzie prozy Maxa Blechera)
In the European literature and culture of the interwar period we can observe increased interest in the physicality and the process of dying. Novels which touch upon these subjects are described by some scholars and critics as “sanitarian literature”. The following text is discussing the issues of the works of Max Blecher; his novel “Scarred Hearts” can be included in the circle of mentioned “sanitarian literature”. Blecher’s novel presents certain strategies of dealing with a terminal illness and the finiteness of human existence, as well as the alientation associated with these. The most frequently cited interpretive trail in this case is the philosophy of Kierkegaard, Jaspers and Heidegger. In the first part of the article, I refer to Blecher’s biography and his reception, while in the next part I contrast selected excerpts from his novel with philosophical hermeneutics. In the European literature and culture of the interwar period we can observe increased interest in the physicality and the process of dying. Czy podejście hermeneutyczne jest interpretacyjnym wytrychem? Diagnoza i propozycja w kontekście współczesnej prozy
The paper is an attempt to reflect on whether hermeneutics can still be a cognitively fruitful approach in literary studies, especially in respect of contemporary output. The authoress analyses two currents in the literature, which could be named integrating and eristic. They seem to correspond with two paradigms in hermeneutics: affirmative, concentrating on “brightening an existence”, and radical, emphasizing “weakness”, “flux”, “collapsing” etc. A key issue is the doubt whether applying the name “hermeneutics” is not in itself misleading, as it concerns diametrically opposed points of view. The authoress proposes her own understanding of hermeneutics as a perspective of reading literature, which “cling on” to the protagonists’, author’s and interpreter’s experience. She also invokes the metaphors of scaffolding and house building, where the home is marked with an unrelenting “uneasiness” and lacks strong foundations, but does convey the situation of incessant common constructing the accidental and demanding protection of meaning. The paper is an attempt to reflect on whether hermeneutics can still be a cognitively fruitful approach in literary studies, especially in respect of contemporary output. O pochodzeniu tragedii albo co zawdzięczamy Arystotelesowi
Greek tragedy, as an expression shaped in the course of a performance, requires not only extending the field of investigation to include extra-philosophical interpretations, but also searching for its sources within the framework of the Greek thinking, described most profundly by Aristotle. The tradition of the Aristotle is inducing us to the reply to numerous questions, concerning Dionysus, as well as composition of the tragedy. Adopting his intellectual perspective provokes us to seek the genesis of tragedy in Greek logos. Apart of being a language (it referred to the notional structure of the Greek universe, defined the way of thinking, and provide a set or rules regarding presentation) it was also an order organizing the sense of action. It combined with doing, provokes action and constituted a reflection of the gestures made on stage.Greek tragedy, as an expression shaped in the course of a performance, requires not only extending the field of investigation to include extra-philosophical interpretations, but also searching for its sources within the framework of the Greek thinking, described most profundly by Aristotle. The subject of Austin Wright’s novel Tony and Susan (published in 1993) is the reader’s experience. The peculiar relationship that forms between the main female character - a reader of literary fiction – and the novel itself as well as its author, inspired in 2016 Tom Ford to capture the specifics of the same relationships using the language of moving images. This article presents the effects of studying the complex system of communication situations occurring in the novel and its film adaptation: each of them contains an additional story around which further author-reader relationships are formed. The analysis shows that a significant part of the film’s plot is not a direct insight into the novel, but its concretization projected by a female protagonist. Tom Ford’s film is therefore considered in relation to Roman Ingarden’s theory on aesthetic concretization.Rojek Patrycja, Konkretyzacja estetyczna w Zwierzętach nocy (2016) Toma Forda [Aesthetic Concretization in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals (2016)]. „Przestrzenie Teorii” 32.
