Teachers’ perceptions in determining the inclusion of translanguaging pedagogy in independent Chinese schools
This qualitative study investigated the role of English teachers in implementing translanguaging pedagogy in independent Chinese schools in Malaysia. Based on interviews with 15 English teachers, this research examines their contributions, the influence of their participation on the inclusion of translanguaging, and their perceptions of students’ acceptance. The findings revealed that teachers are instrumental in creating and adapting teaching materials to address the diverse needs of students with varying English proficiency levels, often crafting resources from scratch when existing materials are unsuitable. Despite institutional prohibitions against translanguaging in some schools, teachers prioritized student comprehension, leveraging this pedagogy to enhance engagement, motivation, and confidence in the classroom. The study highlights the necessity of teacher autonomy in selecting pedagogical approaches tailored to students, emphasizing that prohibiting translanguaging may hinder academic growth. This calls for educational institutions to reconsider their policies and foster meaningful discussions between administrators and teachers to establish effective practices. These findings affirm the feasibility and effectiveness of translanguaging pedagogy in multilingual classrooms, demonstrating its potential for improving learning outcomes and educational experiences for both students and educators
Roots and retail: identity-driven consumption in Sabah, Malaysia
In culturally diverse regions such as Sabah and Malaysia, local identity and pride frequently influence consumer purchasing decisions, even amidst economic uncertainties. This study investigates how region-of-origin shapes consumer behavior regarding locally produced fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), specifically rice, coffee, and chocolate. While country-of-origin often serves as a heuristic cue of quality on a global scale, exploring the impact of the region of origin within the context of everyday food and beverage consumption in regions such as Sabah provides novel insights. Utilizing data from an online survey conducted between July and August 2024, this study examined demographic variables including age, sex, geographic location, ethnicity, and educational background among 356 Sabah consumers who had previously purchased local FMCG products. The findings show that residents of the West Coast and individuals from the Kadazan/Dusun communities exhibit stronger preferences for products associated with their region. In contrast, factors such as age, sex, and education had no significant influence. The results emphasize that local identity and cultural ties drive consumer preferences for regional products, offering fresh insights from the Southeast Asian context to the existing literature. Consequently, businesses targeting this region may benefit from emphasizing region-of-origin in their marketing strategies to foster consumer loyalty. Nonetheless, this study acknowledges the limitations inherent in the self-reported data collection within Sabah. Future research should address these constraints by employing cross-cultural comparisons, broader regional analyses, and more diversified survey methodologies
The Interaction of Australian Winter Monsoon and East Asian Summer Monsoon and Its Impacts on Convergence Around Kalimantan
The Australian Winter Monsoon (AWM) and East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) play a crucial factor in altering the global climate. The two monsoons are closely linked to each other through cross-equatorial flow. As the Australian High anomaly increases, the Western Pacific Subtropical High (WPSH) also increases, resulting in an anticyclone anomaly in Australia and the Western Pacific region that intensifies the AWM and EASM. This study examines the effect of variations between the two monsoons by removing ENSO and IOD signals on meteorological parameters in the Kalimantan region. European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis v5 data with a resolution of 0.25° × 0.25° is used to examine the effect at the local scale and rainfall data from local observations for 35 years in the June-July-August (JJA) or boreal summer. Composite and correlation analyses were conducted by calculating the regression coefficients between the composite variables and the target variables. The EASM and AWM were also analyzed using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to identify the most relevant spatial patterns. This research reveals that when the AWM and EASM increase at once, two connected anticyclone anomalies over the maritime continent trigger easterly wind anomalies, leading to convergence in Kalimantan, which increases the rainfall intensity in the Kalimantan region.

IoT-Enabled Temperature Controlled Room for Patients
The physical environment in healthcare settings is considered important for patient comfort and recovery. Among other environmental factors, room temperature is recognized as a crucial environmental factor that can significantly affect the patient’s health. Changes in room temperature can cause discomfort, making it harder for patients to heal and reducing the patient’s satisfaction with the care provided. In Malaysian hospitals, discomfort may be experienced by patients with sensitive skin due to humidity and temperature fluctuations. A device capable of measuring room temperature for sick patients is available; however, its requirement for manual monitoring complicates the maintenance of an appropriate environment. Consequently, a simple yet effective project has been designed to continuously control room temperature according to individual comfort levels. This system is designed to assist nurses and caregivers by adjusting automatically the room temperature and enabling remote monitoring through mobile applications or a web interface, implemented via the Internet of Things (IoT). The proposed system consists of a DS18B20 temperature sensor for temperature readings, along with an exhaust fan and ceiling fan or stand fan to decrease the temperature. This project uses Wemos D1 R1, a microcontroller that is based on the ESP8266, to enable IoT functionality. For the user interface, the Blynk application is utilized as the primary graphical interface for interaction with the IoT system
The Role of Royal Pardon in Malaysia: An Analysis and a Way Forward
Royal Pardon is one of the prerogative rights of the King, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong in Malaysia. The granting of a royal pardon is sacred, as it will significantly shorten the punishment an offender deserves. The legal issues that arise are whether the advice of the Pardons Board is binding and whether the decision to grant a pardon will be judicially reviewed. An analysis was done about the rejection and granting of a royal pardon to Anwar Ibrahim, and also the pardon that was granted to Najib Razak recently. There are several weaknesses in Malaysia’s royal pardon system, and recommendations are provided by comparing it with those of Australia and Thailand. The problem is that there is a lack of clarity about Malaysia’s current royal pardon system to ensure justice is served. The research objectives are to analyse the current royal pardon system in Malaysia based on decided and ongoing cases, especially on Anwar Ibrahim and Najib Razak’s pardon process, and compare the royal pardon system with Australia and Thailand to improve Malaysia's current royal pardon system. The research adopts doctrinal-based research and comparative analysis to fulfil the objectives of the research
Navigating the Legal Landscape: Short-Term Rental Accommodations in Malaysia and the Path Forward
Short-Term Rental Accommodation (‘STRA’) encircling activities such as operating short-term rentals and listing owner-occupied accommodations on network media, for example, Airbnb, Agoda, iBilik and Booking.com have raised numerous legal concerns in Malaysia. These include licensing, business registration, security issues, and neighbourhood disturbances. Presently, there is a notable absence of devoted legislation addressing the control of STRA, particularly within the context of Airbnb in Malaysia. This study applies qualitative methods, primarily library research through document analysis, focusing on relevant legislation and case laws in Malaysia and some selected countries. It is imperative to advocate for the establishment of specific legislation to regulate STRA in Malaysia to ensure the protection and welfare of homeowners, tourists, and the public in general and subsequently to achieve Goal 11 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (‘SDGs’), which is to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Anti-Hopping Law in Malaysia: An Analysis of the Legal Framework and Enforcement Mechanisms
Anti-hopping law was introduced in Malaysia through a constitutional amendment referred to as the Constitution (Amendment) Act (No. 3) 2022. The objective of this law was to prevent elected representatives at both the Federal and State levels from engaging in party-hopping. Despite the enactment of this law, issues have emerged due to the loopholes within the legal framework and the mechanisms for its enforcement. The provisions outlined in the Federal Constitution concerning situations leading to seat vacancies give rise to ambiguity and debate. In addition, the variations in the Speaker’s decisions regarding seat vacancies also call into question the efficacy of this law. These issues have led numerous elected representatives to exploit the vulnerabilities inherent in this law. The article analyses the legal framework of the anti-hopping law in Malaysia as well as Singapore, and New Zealand for comparison. It also discusses the enforcement mechanisms of the anti-hopping law in Malaysia, as well as proposes recommendations aimed at enhancing long-term political stability in Malaysia. There is a need for a responsible political environment to encourage greater public participation in elections, fostering a more inclusive and democratic Malaysia where every citizen's vote truly matters
Diatribes in the Gender Communication of Muslim Youth TikTok Influencers in Parts of Northern Nigeria
This study explored the use of TikTok by Muslim youth influencers in Northern Nigeria and the diatribes it is generating. The study categorized the discursive strategies used in the diatribes and identified the types, targets, and motives of the diatribes. It also explained the gender roles in the diatribes from an Islamic perspective. Discursive psychology was applied to analyse 12 purposively selected TikTok videos. The key findings showed that loud, confrontational, and highly emotive diatribes, including personal attacks on anonymous social media users, institutions, and women, were used to express binary oppositions. The discursive strategies used included denying prejudice, honest phrases, scapegoating, authority, emotional appeal, and polarization. A variety of emotional and social motives were traced through the clips, viz: personal defence, revenge, identity construction, and moral performance. Gender recurred as a conflicting theme across the diatribes and reinforced patriarchal gender norms, except in a few cases. The study concluded that TikTok diatribes among Northern Nigerian Muslim youth influencers are a complex mix of gendered, moral, and social anxieties. These are projected through performance outrage, satire, and reflection, which portray social media as a public morality theatre where individuals navigate identity, shame, and power using highly emotional and symbolic language
Creating an Android-based Calisthenics Application to Assist Students in Improving Their Physical Fitness
College students, particularly those heavily involved in coursework, frequently do not prioritize physical fitness. Regular exercise is essential for preserving physical fitness and facilitating demanding academic tasks. Although there are other fitness programs available, such as GYM, jogging, CrossFit, and Yoga, users sometimes fail to make full use of them because the content is confined to exercise videos and descriptions. This matter highlights the progress of the Android application Kali Tech, which specifically concentrates on organizing and documenting calisthenics workouts. This program employs the concept of gamification by utilizing student achievement levels to encourage students to be diligent in doing exercise. The application was developed via the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Prototyping methodology in order to fulfill user requirements by incorporating features that promote regular utilization. Kali Tech underwent a one-month testing period, during which data on the responders' blood pressure was also gathered. The data analysis demonstrated that the utilization of the Kali Tech application resulted in an enhancement of the participants' physical fitness, as seen by the blood pressure graphs nearing the standard levels when using the app. The conclusion was further supported by the results of an Independent Sample T-Test analysis and the visual representations of blood pressure graphs, which demonstrated the consistent levels of respondents' blood pressure
Integrating Moral Values in AI: Addressing Ethical Challenges for Fair and Responsible Technology
Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our day-to-day life. From personal task to professional life everywhere we need AI. All the sectors like - transport, education, healthcare, agriculture, we find AI everywhere. Each coin has two side, similarly AI has its own pros and cons. Main challenge with AI is ethics. There is no doubt in the work efficiency of AI but ultimately, it’s a machine without emotions hence whatever the decision it takes it purely without ethical values. Sometimes, this type of decision may lead to disasters, especially in the industry where human life is involved e.g. healthcare. The focus of this paper is to integrate moral values into AI systems. It also talks about different ethical frameworks like utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics along with the state-of-art work and knowledge gaps. This research also explored various case studies where AI implemented with ethics. Integration of moral values with AI has many issues like bias, transparency and accountability. Here author has proposed a new model named Ethical Alignment Algorithm (EAA). This model helps to integrate ethics with AI step-by-step. This approach will help AI to make fair, sensible and responsible decisions. This paper will also help researchers to work with a multidisciplinary approach. Different subject specialists can come together and make AI policies with ethics. EAA has the potential to make the AI systems not only advanced but with high moral values. In the end, the paper highlights current AI development and future scopes. The main aim of this research is to promote justice and fairness in AI decisions for the overall well-being of society
