    No full text
There is a growing focus on integrating green supply chain management (GSCM) to improve environmental impact and operational performance. This study examines the effect of the adoption of GSCM on the operational performance of SMEs in Malaysia. A survey methodology using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire was employed to collect data from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In this study, the questionnaire assessed the adoption and perceived effectiveness of GSCM, including green procurement, warehousing and green building, distribution strategies and transportation execution, and internal environmental management, as well as their influence on operational performance. Of the 170 distributed questionnaires, 127 valid responses were collected and analyzed. The research findings offer valuable insights for SMEs aiming to enhance their environmental and operational outcomes through sustainable practices. This study provides originality by focusing on the adoption and impact of GSCM practices among SMEs in Malaysia. This context has been underexplored in existing literature. While much research has concentrated on large corporations, this study uniquely examines SMEs and their operational performance in terms of GSCM adoption in an emerging country context. Thus, this study provides empirical insights into the effectiveness of specific GSCM practices, contributing valuable insights to academia and industry

Unboxing the sustainability trends of small and medium enterprises’ environment, social and governance reporting: bibliometric and visualisation insights

    No full text
There has been heightened attention on global warming amidst expanding commercial activities at the forefront of human civilization. While small and medium enterprises (SMEs) drive economic growth in most nations, they inevitably leave a huge carbon footprint behind in the process. Nonetheless, awareness of the importance of sustainability is still slow and lacking in SMEs, partly due to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting being voluntary in most countries.  This study aims to unravel the trends of sustainability and ESG surrounding SMEs via bibliometric and visualization analysis, supported by a literature review, based on a dataset extracted from the Scopus database. The findings revealed 11 diverse yet disparate network clusters with environmental management, financial sustainability, and economics as some of the trending keywords. With SMEs’ role in sustainability continuing to create headlines, it is expected that research in these areas will gain momentum in the near future. It is imperative for SMEs to be proactive in implementing and strengthening their ESG reporting capacity as a way forward because of its profound effects on SMEs’ future of SMEs in terms of long-term financial performance and  enterprise resilience

A Flash Flood Warning System Using Solar Powered Node MCU

    No full text
Flash flood disasters are natural phenomena in Malaysia that can occur anytime and anywhere. For safety precautions, a notification message should be sent to the people early to avoid any losses of property or life. This system is designed as an earlier flood alert system that can detect water levels using an ultrasonic sensor. The objectives of this research are to develop a system that can be aware of the water level of flood to the user and send a notification to people about the flood’s condition through the mobile application. NodeMCU, an ultrasonic sensor, and solar technology developed the system. This project focuses on monitoring water levels, using Wi-Fi as a medium to send warning notifications to people through mobile phones, and the accuracy of ultrasonic sensors using and without pipes. This prototype can send short warning notifications to Blynk apps. The average percentage error of the water level distance from the ultrasonic sensor with pipe was lower than without pipe, which was 2.55% and 3.11%, respectively. This system improved the notification message-sending method and detection of the ultrasonic sensor. E-Commerce Customer Segmentation: A Clustering Approach in A Web-Based Platform

    No full text
This study develops a K-means clustering model to segment e-commerce customers into distinct personality groups (e.g., Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze). The model utilizes a dataset encompassing customer demographics (income, age, family size), spending behavior (total expenditure, product preferences), customer tenure, and engagement with marketing campaigns (campaign responses). Model accuracy is evaluated through comparison of predicted cluster assignments to established customer segment characteristics. A web application, built with the Flask framework, provides an interactive interface allowing users to input new customer data for personalized predictions and detailed cluster-specific insights regarding product preferences, campaign responsiveness, and suggested marketing strategies. The application outputs cluster assignments, key spending/purchase tendencies, typical campaign response profiles within a respective segment, and prioritized product recommendations. Findings demonstrate the model's ability to effectively group customers with theoretical implications and suggests potential for improving targeted marketing campaigns. This work highlights the application of K-Means clustering with a practical online platform through an implemented web app for data visualization. Acknowledged limitations in the generalizability of the dataset to the entire customer base are addressed. Addressing Child Exploitation via Deepfake Technology: Evaluating Malaysia’s Legal Framework

    No full text
The rapid development in artificial intelligence (AI) has led to the proliferation of deepfake technology. The advancement of deepfake technology has posed significant risks, particularly its significant threats to children through exploitation. This paper aims to examine the effectiveness of Malaysia’s current legal framework in tackling deepfake child pornography and to identify existing legal gaps. Despite the severe implications of deepfakes in facilitating child pornography and other forms of abuse, Malaysia currently lacks specific laws to address these pressing issues. Thus, this paper delves into effective legislative measures to tackle deepfake-related crime through a comparative analysis of the legal approaches in the United Kingdom, Singapore, South Korea and the European Union. By identifying the key provisions and case laws in these jurisdictions, this study proposes to reform Malaysia’s outdated laws to criminalise the parties liable for the crime and point up the need to adopt a robust legal framework to safeguard victims and deter potential offenders

Detecting Structural Deficiencies in China’s Legal Framework on Multinational Corporate Commercial Bribery: Liability Gaps and Reform Imperatives

    No full text
This paper systematically analyses the criminal, civil, and administrative liabilities of multinational corporations for commercial bribery under Chinese law. Using a dual-perspective framework, it examines China’s legal role both as a home country, regulating outbound bribery by domestic enterprises, and as a host country, addressing bribery committed by foreign companies within its territory. The criminal liability section assesses the application and limitations of Articles 164 and 393 of the Criminal Law. The civil dimension explores relevant provisions of the Civil Code, Company Law, and Anti-Unfair Competition Law regarding contract invalidation, unjust enrichment, tort damages, and managerial responsibility. The administrative part evaluates enforcement powers under the Anti-Unfair Competition Law, including fines, disgorgement, and business licence revocation. The paper identifies structural deficiencies in China’s legal framework, including fragmented enforcement, insufficient compliance incentives, and limited extraterritorial jurisdiction. Through comparison with the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the United Kingdom Bribery Act 2010, it argues that China’s current approach remains largely punitive and reactive, with inadequate emphasis on preventive and coordinated enforcement. Rather than proposing specific legal reforms, the paper adopts a doctrinal and comparative methodology to expose institutional weaknesses and provide a theoretical basis for future reform-oriented research
