    No full text
Effective inventory management is crucial for the success and profitability of small businesses, yet many struggle with outdated manual processes or overly complex systems that are not tailored to their needs. This study addressed this gap by developing a web-based inventory management system called "EzStock" specifically for small businesses. The system provides real-time visibility into inventory levels, automates key processes, and offers cross-platform accessibility. An Agile methodology guided the development process, with requirements gathered through surveys of 30 participants and a comprehensive literature review. The system was developed using web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, with a Mysql database backend. Key findings revealed high user satisfaction rates, with 93.3% of users expressing overall satisfaction with the system, 96.7% likelihood of recommendation, and 90% finding the user interface intuitive. The system significantly improved inventory management processes, data accuracy, and time savings. This study contributes an affordable, user-friendly solution that streamlines inventory management for small businesses, with identified areas for future development, including enhanced search functionality, improved reporting features, and product bundling capabilities

Communication is essential for the operation of any learning institution, particularly in keeping students informed about institutional matters and engaged with activities within the university environment. Currently, Universiti Utara Malaysia uses a decentralised approach, with multiple platforms for disseminating information to students. This approach has frequently led to issues such as information overload, redundancy, and uneven message reach. To address these challenges, this paper develops and evaluates a prototype web-based announcement system that serves as a centralised platform for educational, administrative, and club-related announcements. The development process employs the Rapid Application Development methodology to accelerate progress and adapt to user feedback. Usability testing involving 33 respondents revealed high satisfaction with the system’s usefulness, ease of use, smooth communication flow, elimination of duplicate postings, and improved accessibility and information retrieval. The results suggest that the system can effectively mitigate the identified problems and enhance information dissemination within the university environment. Its design and functionality offer broader applicability to other higher education institutions facing similar challenges in managing and communicating student-related information. In conclusion, the proposed prototype demonstrates the potential to streamline communication processes and improve the overall information experience for students across universities

A CRITICAL REVIEW OF PRECAUTIONARY SAVINGS AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR KEYNESIAN STIMULUS DURING COVID-19

    No full text
During Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, policymakers rely on Keynesian-economic stimulus packages (ESP) to help economic agents in surviving from economic stagnation. However, precautionary savings phenomenon can affect ESP effectiveness negatively over time according to precautionary savings theory and permanent income hypothesis, which is greatly underexplored in the literature. Thereupon, this study takes initiative to examine how unprecedented non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) that are induced by the pandemic cause to the precautionary savings. A critical review was employed and the results highlighted that NPIs, heightened economic uncertainty, long-term income expectations, structural financial constraints, and resultant behavioural shifts are key factors of the precautionary savings behaviour’s outbreak. Besides, degree of economic uncertainty—shaped by severity and duration of the NPIs, future employment prospects, and perceived long-term income shocks are key factors in determining the impact of precautionary savings behaviour on demand transmission mechanism of the Keynesian-ESP. This study concludes that ESP has generate diminishing marginal utilities of consumption and investment relative to saving. These findings call attention to practitioners for a re-examination of Keynesian frameworks by integrating behavioural insights from the other theories, while suggesting policymakers to implement complementary strategies, targeted fiscal measures, and clear communication in alleviating uncertainty and stabilizing lifetime income expectations during crises. Due to some methodological and theoretical limitations, the precise impact of precautionary savings behaviour on the effectiveness of Keynesian-ESP remains ambiguous in this critical review. Thereupon, future research should adopt more robust empirical methodologies and structural models that incorporate longer time horizons and finer micro-level data

ASSESSING THE STANDARD OF CARE OF DOCTORS IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS

    No full text
Working in emergency departments appears to be challenging as the doctors stationed here encounter obstacles that may not be faced by other doctors. This includes the need to attend to a high number of patients, the lack of manpower and resources, as well as the pressing situation of being in an emergency. This condition may be more apparent in public hospitals that are usually overcrowded with patients with various illnesses that require urgent treatment. Occasionally, claims of medical negligence have been filed against doctors and hospitals by patients seeking medical treatment in emergency departments. An issue, therefore, arises on the standard of care required of doctors as has been imposed by the law on working in emergency departments. The question is whether the calamitous situation that doctors in emergency departments encounter is acknowledged by the law as a possible defence against the allegation of negligence in Malaysia. From the cases analysed, it is concluded that doctors in emergency departments are expected to exercise the skill of any other reasonable competent doctor in similar circumstances. As such, doctors and hospitals should strive to provide the best medical treatments according to the situations of each case in order to avoid liability in negligence. It is hoped that the findings of this research would assist doctors working in emergency departments in discharging their daily duties according to the standards imposed by law. To fulfil its objective, this research employs legal and doctrinal methods in which the analysis and arguments have been based on the written literature, which has been mainly case laws from Malaysia and the United Kingdom, as well as textbooks and journals

ABSTRACT This study assessed the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing at the Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC). Using a qualitative approach with document content analysis, this research examined the causes, implications, and risk levels of ML/TF, as well as the effectiveness of enforcement measures taken by authorities. The study also evaluated existing guidelines set by the Malaysian government and international institutions such as the FATF. The findings indicated that Malaysia\u27s strategic location, economic openness, and strong banking secrecy make Labuan IBFC a prime target for ML/TF activities. The study identified those weaknesses in law enforcement and financial transaction monitoring as contributing to high risks. Additionally, the research emphasises the importance of international cooperation and the use of modern technology in detecting and preventing ML/TF. The study suggested several measures to enhance enforcement effectiveness, including updating the legal framework, increasing industry awareness, and adopting a risk-based approach. The proposed policy implications aimed to strengthen the integrity and stability of Malaysia\u27s financial system and reduce ML/TF risks at Labuan IBFC. Keywords: Money laundering, terrorist financing, offshore financial centre, Labuan IBFC, FATF, law enforcement

A NEW APPROACH IN IMMOVABLE ASSET MANAGEMENT USING 3D SPATIAL SPACE

    No full text
Effective asset management is crucial for organizations that provide high-quality services. However, the management of immovable assets often faces challenges due to time-consuming, tedious, and error-prone paper-based practices. To address these issues, the Malaysian government has introduced MySPATA (Sistem Pengurusan Aset Tak Alih Kerajaan), an electronic-based solution aimed at improving asset management. Despite its implementation, MySPATA has not fully resolved the complications associated with locating and managing assets. This study proposes integrating three-dimensional Geographic Information Systems (3D GIS) into the asset management system to enhance productivity and accuracy. This research focuses on Taman Kobena Hall, which is managed by Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB), utilizing detailed LiDAR scanning and aerial photogrammetry to create an accurate 3D model of the building. The integration of 3D GIS into the asset management system using ArcGIS software enables efficient asset registration, detailed visualization, and comprehensive data querying. The findings demonstrate that 3D visualization significantly improves asset location tracking and reduces reliance on paper-based processes, thus promoting continuous asset updates. The study also addresses the strengths and limitations of this approach. While the initial creation and maintenance of detailed 3D models require significant time and resources, the benefits of improved accuracy, better decision-making, and enhanced visualization are substantial. This research provides robust proof of the concept of integrating 3D GIS in immovable asset management and offers valuable insights for broader applications in various industries
