Family’s Role in Cultivating Students’ Reading Habits: Systematic Literature Review
This systematic literature review explores the role of families in fostering students’ reading habits, based on 38 empirical studies analysed using ROSES framework and thematic synthesis. Four themes and eight subthemes were identified: The influence of the parents as reading models, the availability of reading materials, family interaction in reading activities, the role of the parents in digital literacy and interactive reading. The findings show the importance of family engagement, both traditional and digital, shapes children’s reading motivation, frequency and long-term literacy outcomes. However, the evidence base is uneven, with regional imbalances and heterogeneous study designs, and findings are largely derived from self-reported data. This review contributes by highlighting how different forms of family involvement intersect to influence literacy, while also outlining the need for more contextually diverse and methodologically robust research.
Disciplinary Problems Among FELDA Adolescents: A Systematic Literature Review
Adolescents in Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) settlements face unique psychosocial challenges that contribute to disciplinary problems, yet systematic evidence remains limited. This systematic literature review aimed to identify and analyse the characteristics of students with disciplinary problems in FELDA settlements and examine contributing factors to inform intervention strategies. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, two databases: Scopus and Web of Science were searched for studies published between2000 until 2025. Study quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Thematic synthesis was employed to analyse findings across each selected study. Ten studies met inclusion criteria, comprising seven quantitative, two qualitative, and one mixed-methods study. Thematic analysis revealed three main themes: (1) characteristics of FELDA students with disciplinary problems, (2) contributing factors, and (3) intervention strategies and protective factors. Male adolescents demonstrated significantly higher rates of disciplinary problems, with 54.1% of males reporting smoking compared to 4.3% of females. Family and peer influence was particularly strong in contributing factors. Religious-based interventions, group counselling, and academic support were commonly recommended as protective interventions. Despitethese findings, the evidence base is limited in both size and methodological rigour. Most studies were crosssectionaland varied in quality, thus limiting the strength of conclusions. To strengthen the evidence base, future research should employ more robust methodologies, particularly longitudinal and intervention studiestailored to the cultural context of FELDA populations
Biografi Riduan Bin Rahmat: 36 Tahun Berkhidmat, 80 Hari Bergelar Setiausaha Dewan Rakyat, Parlimen Malaysia
Tuan Haji Riduan bin Rahmat (A.M.N.) (J.M.W.)
The Effect of Vocational Technical Module F-WBL4C on Trainers in Malaysia
The study evaluated the Football Work-Based Learning for the Community (F-WBL4C) module for enhancing community football coaches’ technical competencies. The module comprises five progressive levels (ball mastery; passing/receiving; 1v1 and running with the ball; speed/agility; finishing) and was delivered in a blended format (Google Classroom/Meet plus face-to-face workshop). Using a pilot, single-group repeated-measures design, 20 coaches from Penang (academies and secondary schools) completed three assessments: pre-test, post-test, and extended post-test, each requiring 17 video artefacts scored on a five-point rubric. Repeated-Measures ANOVA indicated significant improvements across time, with mean scores increasing from pre- to post- and further at the extended post-test, suggesting that structured, blended WBL may support measurable gains in coaching technique. However, findings are preliminary: the small convenience sample (N = 20), single-site Penang context, non-randomised single-group design, short (three-week) follow-up, and absence of formal inter-rater reliability and content-validation procedures limit generalisability and causal inference. Within these constraints, the results indicate the feasibility and promise of artefact-based, blended work-based learning for grassroots coach development, and motivate larger, multi-site-controlled trials with longer follow-up, expert content validation, assessor reliability checks, and fidelity monitoring to establish effectiveness and scalability within TVET-aligned sports education
Analisis Miskonsepsi Ungkapan Algebra melalui Ujian Diagnostik Kognitif Dua-Peringkat berasaskan Model Rasch (Analysis of Misconceptions in Algebraic Expressions through a Two-Tier Cognitive Diagnostic Test using the Rasch Model)
The Distractor Analysis based on Option Probability Curves (OPC) represents a systematic approach to identify students\u27 misconceptions in basic operations of algebraic expressions. The cognitive diagnostic test was used in this study as an instrument to collect research data. The research instrument consists of 24 multiple-choice items in two-tier format. This study employed a survey method involving 1,029 Form One students from 10 secondary schools in Penang state. The content validity and construct validity of the research instrument recorded the lowest Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) value of .83, Scale Content Validity Index/Average (S-CVI/Ave) value of .99, Scale Content Validity Index/Universal Agreement (S-CVI/UA) value of .96, with all 24 items (100%) and 18 items (75%) meeting the MNSQ infit and outfit requirements, standardised residual variance (PCA) recording 59.0%, PTMEA CORR values between .49 to .78, DIF contrast (Differential Item Functioning) values within the range of –.25 to +.26 logits, scale validity with the lowest observed count of 24 observations, instrument respondent distribution between –2.5 to +5.0 logits, and item difficulty distribution between –1.0 to +1.0 logits. The results of Rasch OPC misconception analysis revealed that among students demonstrating misconceptions in the basic operations of algebraic expressions, the majority experienced misconceptions in using algebra, and low-ability students did not understand concepts. This proves that most students faced assimilation pseudo-conceptions involving students\u27 failures in basic operations between algebraic terms. The reliability indices of respondents (.92), items (.99) and Cronbach Alpha (KR-20) (.96) in this study demonstrate a very high level of instrument reliability and validity. Nevertheless, the findings of this study have limitations in terms of scope, time, and the topographical context of its implementation. In addition, the use of objective-type instruments may also restrict the types of student misconceptions identified in algebraic expressions
Validation of the Chinese Social Constraints Scale among Malaysian Chinese Postpartum Mothers
Background: In Chinese and collectivist cultures, discussing personal feelings is often considered inappropriate or discouraged, even for postpartum mothers. As a self-reported measure of social responses that inhibit the expression of stressful thoughts, feelings, and experiences, the Social Constraints Scale has been widely validated among cancer and bereaved populations, leaving postpartum mothers unattended.
Methods: This study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Social Constraints Scale (C-SCS) among Chinese postpartum women in Malaysia. A cross-sectional quantitative survey was conducted among 130 Malaysian women in their first postpartum year.
Results: Exploratory factor analysis revealed three underlying factors in the C-SCS, explaining 61.16% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis based on a three-factor structure showed the best fit (P < 0.001) after omitting item 3 due to low factor loading. The C-SCS demonstrated excellent reliability with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.90 and McDonald’s Omega of 0.90. The three-factor model of the C-SCS exhibited different factor loadings compared with the Greek Social Constraints Scale, suggesting that these differences stem from postpartum and sociocultural contexts.
Conclusion: The C-SCS displayed excellent psychometric properties, making it a reliable and valid measure for screening social constraints and identifying help-seeking barriers among postpartum women in Malaysia
Blood Supply and Draining Vein of Cerebellectomy Area
We read with interest the letters to the editor titled “Brain Shift Patterns: Upward, Lateral and Downward Herniation, Its Correlation with Clinical Patterns in Acute Intracranial Pathologies and Management” where downward and upward herniation were discussed with relevant neuroanatomy. The neurosurgical dissection for a cerebellectomy was also demonstrated. We would like to elaborate on the relevant arteries and veins ligated/clipped/coagulated/sacrificed during this unilateral cerebellectomy procedure to complement the author’s operative discussion
Mapping The Inner Self: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Islamic Psychology, And Heart-Centred Spirituality Approaches To Healing
In today’s increasingly complex psychological and spiritual landscape, there is an urgent need for integrative frameworks that address not only mental distress but also the deeper human search for meaning, purpose, and inner balance. This paper explores the inner self through three distinct yet potentially complementary approaches to healing: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Islamic Psychology, and a modern reflective model called the 3As Heart-Centered Framework, which includes Awareness, Awakening, and Action. CBT, rooted in Western clinical psychology, focuses on restructuring thought patterns to influence behavior and emotional well-being. Islamic Psychology, on the other hand, is based on a spiritually grounded epistemology that emphasizes the purification of the soul (tazkiyat al-nafs) and aligning the qalb (heart) with divine guidance. The 3As Framework integrates elements from both traditions, providing a practical, spiritually sensitive pathway that guides from deep self-awareness to spiritual awakening and ethically guided action. By examining the theoretical foundations and shared values of these models, the paper proposes a more holistic approach to inner healing—one that engages the intellect, nurtures the heart, and honors the spiritual dimension of human existence
A Comparative Study of Contemporary Scholars’ Views on Medieval European Science
This research paper investigates how medieval science has been evaluated in modern historical scholarship and its place within the broader development of scientific knowledge. Earlier historical narratives often characterized the European Middle Ages as the “Dark Ages”. They supported the discontinuity thesis, which argued that medieval thought lacked relevance to the rise of modern science. Such interpretations reduced the period to intellectual stagnation and ignored its contributions. In response, this study reviews the work of post-World War II historians who redefined medieval science and laid the foundation for the continuity thesis. The research goal is to examine how contemporary scholarship interprets the intellectual role of medieval Europe, particularly through the study of universities, scholasticism, and natural philosophy. The findings indicate that most historians now reject the notion that medieval Europe was scientifically stagnant and instead recognize its intellectual significance and long-term influence. The study concludes that the continuity thesis offers a more accurate framework, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary and global perspectives in future research on medieval science and its connection to the Scientific Revolution
