Determinants of Business Taxpayers' Return Filing Compliance: An Empirical Study of Malaysian Firms

relationship between business taxpayers’ return filing
compliance (TRFC) and three important variables: taxable sales, tax penalty, and licensing experience. It also seeks to present new insight into the association between licensing experience and TRFC. The study sample consists of 150 business firms with service tax adjustment. Data are sourced from tax audit reports and a supporting database over the period of 2010 to 2012. The hypotheses are tested using multiple regression and ANOVA
analysis. The results show that taxable sales and licensing experience are positively related to TRFC, whereas proportional penalty is significantly negative. There is a significant difference the tax experience groups. The highest mean of tax returns is reached at 12 15 years of experience. The findings of this paper indicate that business TRFC is likely to improve with
higher penalties and longer tax experience. Some taxpayers who file returns regularly and ‘on time’ may fail to file correct taxable sales. The study contributes to knowledge of tax research and would ultimately assist tax administration to enhance taxpayers’ filing compliance and audit plannin

New Zealand's Hotel Industry's Security Readiness: Stakeholders' Perspectives
Get PDFThis unique study, comprising of information from three distinct groups; ten hotel managers, ten hotel employees and ten hotel guests, explored ‘New Zealand’s Hotel Industry’s Security Readiness: Stakeholders’ Perspectives’. This appears to be the only time all three distinct voices (triangulation) were included whilst studying hospitality security in New Zealand. The aim of this research is to understand how prepared hotels in New Zealand are in case of a security breach and to also understand what the three stakeholder groups expect in terms of security. Overall, New Zealand hotels appear to be quite relaxed about security requirements. Hence, the reason for this research.
Responses to a total of 300 questions were carefully collated and analysed to answer the research questions. Each participant separately discussed and answered ten questions. Over 300 sources of secondary literature were consulted and included in this study to provide either background information for the thesis or support for various findings and discussion topics. An interpretivist approach was adopted for this research.
The specific research questions for this study were:
1. To what extent are hotels in New Zealand security-ready to meet guest’s security expectations, needs and wants?
2. What kind of security training are the staff provided with to prepare them to discharge their duties professionally?
3. How important is security to guests?
The findings showed that all three stakeholder groups (managers, employees, and guests) considered security to be extremely important, even though they considered New Zealand to be safe. All three groups also believed that it was the hospitality properties’ responsibility to look after their guests and protect them. It should not be left up to the individuals to take care of themselves. Knowing their own properties well, and their own security efforts, the group of managers mainly rated security as being between medium to low. They acknowledged that their security was not at the desired level, but they mitigated that with New Zealand being a safe destination. They also agreed that not enough was being done in terms of staff security training. These findings will be useful for individual hotel properties when making security decisions, government when working on policy issues and guests when making travel plans.
One very significant and interesting finding that came out of the research was that guests were willing to pay extra just so that they can stay in a property with better security. This is in total agreement with the literature.

Developing Pre-Retiree Intent- Entrepreneurship Learning to New Normal Entrepreneurial Initiatives

Invariably so, the Government of Malaysia has been promoting entrepreneurship to encourage Malaysians to venture into the business world. A significant part of this effort is manifested in the existence of numerous small medium industries throughout the country, following the implementation of policy imperatives such as the past New Economic Policy (NEP) and other government-aided menu of entrepreneurship
programs that include a horde of petty-trading hawkers and novice „entrepreneurs‟ competing to survive and grow their variety of new or reinvented initiatives. However, the focus mainly has been on younger Malaysians who are job-seeking and unemployed graduates and women,
particularly in the Bumiputera community to correct the so-called race-based inequitable distribution of economic wealth and gender-based imbalance of job-business opportunities. The senior citizens particularly the pre-retiree cohort of Malaysians has been overlooked and
neglected despite the work knowledge and life experiences they have undergone. Studies focusing on this group of people have reached different conclusions about them but there is a general consensus that this senior cohort (referred here as “pre-retirees”) has various age�related advantages to initiate new start-up ventures. This study raises an urgent need to investigate what and how pre-retirees with intent-entrepreneurship orientation can be
encouraged to develop their potential and contribute to value-adding initiatives that can develop and grow into value-creating enterprises for both individual welfare sustainability and national understand of the determinants that influence the senior cohort‟s entrepreneurial intention is economic wealth development too. To promote senior entrepreneurship in Malaysia therefore this study examines the relationship between Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation (IEO) and Entrepreneurial Intention (EI) among Malaysian pre-retirees between 45 to 59 years old in the State of Selangor and the Federal Territory (Wilayah Persekutuan)
Kuala Lumpur. In addition, a comparison insight into ethnic-bias intent is conducted to assess its influence on the variable-dimensions of IEO: risk taking, innovativeness and proactive readiness. A total of 596 samples, using purposive sampling, has revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between IEO and entrepreneurial intention and, among others, the ethnic-bias differences found highlighted the values of „innovativeness‟ and „proactive readiness‟ but not „risk taking‟. It is therefore suggested, more so now in the
context of learning curve during the new normal of COVID-19 pandemic era, that various supporting mechanisms by the government and volunteer-aided organizations be specially designed and customized to tap the potentials of intent entrepreneurship-driven pre-retirees
who represent a mature-experience cohort of human capital whose talent would otherwise would be wasteful resources. In other words, by promoting, encouraging and nurturing a
shorter gestation period of senior entrepreneurship, it not only helps Malaysian citizens to achieve a sustainable useful retirement life but, in turn, this will also generate positive country impact on new vistas of economic development and national prosperity
Classification of Cardiac Disorders Based on Electrocardiogram Data with Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM) Algorithm Approach
Get PDFIn this article, the classification of cardiac abnormalities from electrocardio�gram medical data has been carried out using the Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM) approach. FCM itself is a form of knowledge representation, design elements, and algorithm de�scriptions that are included in the FCM Expert software. The FCM model design can model complex systems. The results showed the real-time visualization of the normal heart error curve reached 16%, real-time visualization of the abnormal heart error curve
reaches 31%, and the result of the convergence process of normal heart has the lowest convergence value of 0.39 and the highest convergence value of 0.91. Meanwhile, the re�sult of abnormal heart convergence process has the lowest convergence value of 0.49 and the highest convergence value of 0.87. This research contributes to the world of health, where we classify the Electrocardiogram (ECG) data, so that it can classify abnormal and normal cardiac disorders using the Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM) algorithm
