    Get PDF
This research aims to propose a strategy for equitable development by gathering information on the living conditions of people in rural areas and grouping villages based on the Community Standard of Living Index (CSLI). Rural areas often face issues such as poverty, inequality, and inadequate access to services, necessitating a rural development strategy for poverty alleviation and empowerment of rural communities. The foundation of successful survey based research is accurately describing the practices, conditions, experiences, personal characteristics, or opinions of respondents through the questions asked. The stages of this study include the validation of 38 criteria by experts, verification and evaluation using the MOO-Fuzzy Delphi method, weighting with the RR method, village scoring, and clustering using the SOM method. The scores from all respondents were calculated and used as input for the scoring process, which determined the village score. The results indicate that 10 villages fall into the Poor Level of CSLI group. The innovation of this study lies in the method used to develop the Community Standard of Living Index for each village, providing a potential solution for addressing the lack of community participation and delays in presenting information about development conditions in villages

Postgraduate Research on International Tertiary Students: The Case of Malaysia

    Get PDF
This paper sought to enumerate theses produced by postgraduate researchers of Malaysian universities that focus on international students enrolled in Malaysian tertiary institutions. Using the Malaysian Theses Online (MyTO) and the university libraries’ Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) databases to gather the initial data, this paper went on to present metadata about the researchers as well as the participants of these postgraduate studies. It concluded that though there has been quantitative progress since the first thesis on international students was produced in 1999, there is a need to address the unevenness of focus that was leaning more towards the experiences of postgraduate students in public institutions of higher learning and less on those enrolled in undergraduate programs, especially at private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia

Relationship between Entrepreneurial Characteristics and Entrepreneurial Intention among Community College Students: Mediating Role of Entrepreneurial Knowledge

    Get PDF
The low rate of community college graduates' involvement in entrepreneurship in Selangor has prompted this research to investigate the factors influencing their entrepreneurial intentions. This research is particularly important given the pressing need to generate economic growth through younger generations amidst an aging population, which presents a critical challenge to Selangor, and Malaysia. Moreover, Selangor's strong government support for entrepreneurship, exemplified by initiatives like the Selangor Youth Community and Entrepreneurship Selangor, plays a crucial role in fostering the entrepreneurial ecosystem. By conducting a detailed analysis of entrepreneurial intentions in Selangor, we aim to identify the factors impacting community college students and inform targeted interventions and policy measures. To achieve this, present study assesses the relationship between entrepreneurial characteristic dimensions (risk-taking and fear of failure) and community college student’s entrepreneurial intention. The study also examined the mediating role of entrepreneurial knowledge in the relationship. In order to gather data, a sample of 580 respondents was selected from ten community colleges in Selangor. Final data analysis was conducted on 358 respondents using simple random sampling, and adopted questionnaires were employed for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques were employed to examine a total of seven hypotheses, comprising five direct relationship hypotheses and two indirect relationship hypotheses. Four out of the five direct relationships were supported, with one being unsupported. Regarding the indirect relationship, the study found that entrepreneurial knowledge partially mediates the relationship between risk-taking and entrepreneurial intention. However, no mediation was observed in the relationship between fear of failure and entrepreneurial intention. The findings offer partial support for the Theory of Planned Behaviour, aligning with the theory's predictions on risk taking and entrepreneurial knowledge while revealing a contradiction in relation to the fear of failure. The study underscores the significance of promoting entrepreneurial knowledge among community college students as a means to cultivate their intentions and behaviours pertaining to entrepreneurship. Additionally, it offers practical contributions and implications. Furthermore, it acknowledges limitations and provides recommendations and suggestions for future research, which can benefit the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, community college management, lecturers and teachers, students, and society

The Influence of Strategic Orientation, Adaptive Marketing Capability and Sustainable Competitive Advantage on Business Performance of Multi-Level Marketing Companies in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Many multi-level marketing (MLM) companies in Malaysia have failed to maintain sustainability and experienced a high rate of attrition due to their inability to sustain. Despite all support from the Malaysia Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and Direct Selling Association Malaysia, the level of sustainability of MLM firms in Malaysia is still low. This study investigates the impact of strategic orientations (market, learning, intellectual capital, technology) on sustainable competitive \ud advantage (SCA) through adaptive marketing capabilities (AMC) among Malaysian MLM companies. A quantitative approach is employed in this study. The founders, CEOs, COOs, CMOs, General Managers, or equivalent positions of MLM firms are surveyed to gather data. A total of one hundred and two responses were collected and subsequently subjected to analysis. The SmartPLS software was employed to assess the research models and test the proposed hypotheses. The empirical findings indicate robust evidence for the model’s explanatory power, which shows that it accounts for 71 percent of the variance in AMC and 77.3% in SCA. Market orientation has a weak relationship with SCA but has a positive relationship with SCA through AMC’s full mediating effect. No mediation is evident between learning orientation and SCA; instead, a direct inverse connection between learning orientation and SCA is observed. Furthermore, technology orientation exerts a direct positive influence on SCA. AMC serves as a partial mediator, whereas intellectual capital does not exhibit any mediating effect through AMC but rather maintains a direct positive association with SCA. In combination, market, learning, intellectual capital, and technology orientation possess similar explanatory power in accounting for the variability in AMC. As a result, when these factors are combined, they contribute more to enhancing AMC and SCA. This study has highlighted the understanding and challenges of applying strategic orientation-capabilities-SCA relationship link concepts to the literature of the MLM sector and significantly contribute to the field of strategic marketing by advancing knowledge and understanding in areas such as strategic orientation, AMC and SCA. The ability of Malaysia’s MLM firms to address the obstacles and effectively utilize their resources and capabilities to improve firm capability hinges on the management’s competence in creating and deploying a suitable blend of essential resources
