    Philippe Vilain’s work is a significant contribution to the contemporary literary field, because it invests the styles and genres of his time (autofiction, exofiction and non-fiction)as much as it is invested by theoretical concerns: his fictions pensives are characterized by their capacity to offer a fictional framework for pondering the love experience, which is likely to influence the writing of essays and feed on it. This article proposes to highlight some of these fictional expansions of his thinking, their relationship to his work as an essayist, as well as the writer\u27s ability to transform ordinary experience into both a literary object and a structured thought.L’oeuvre de Philippe Vilain constitue un apport important dans le champ littéraire contemporain, parce qu’elle investit les modes et les genres de son temps (l’autofiction, l’exofiction et la non-fiction) autant qu’elle en est investie par les enjeux théoriques : sesfictions pensives se caractérisent par leur capacité à fournir un cadre fictionnel à la réflexion sur l’expérience amoureuse, susceptible de se prolonger dans l’écriture des essais et de se nourrir de celle-ci.     The aim of this paper is to interpret the special place of Naples in Philippe Vilain’s work. In the light of socio-anthropological considerations on the significance of adoption in certain traditional Neapolitan practices, we will attempt to support the hypothesis that the transition from the status of foreign traveller to that of adopted Neapolitan constitutes the culmination of an original literary process that bases its autofictional device on the need to make what Vilain calls “the orphaned voice of the I” heard, and to go beyond it.Cet article se propose d’interpréter la place singulière que la ville de Naples occupe dans l’oeuvre de Philippe Vilain. À la lumière de considérations d’ordre socio-anthropologique sur le sens de l’adoption dans certaines pratiques napolitaines traditionnelles, nous essaierons de soutenir l’hypothèse selon laquelle le passage du statut de voyageur étranger à celui de napolitain adopté constitue l’aboutissement d’un parcours littéraire original qui fonde son dispositif autofictionnel sur la nécessité de porter et de dépasser ce que l’écrivain appelle « la voix orpheline du je »

    Hackathons within medical education: Promoting cutting-edge innovation in surgery

    Medical students need to begin to learn how to innovate earlier in their training. Hackathons offer opportunities to foster innovation in healthcare. We launched a hackathon for medical students to generate solutions to a real-world surgical problem. We focused on generating solutions to better support more women in surgery, an area of medicine where women remain underrepresented. The goal of our event was to not only generate solutions at a systemic level but within our own medical school, break down barriers for female medical students by allowing them to network with Dalhousie surgeons and better explore potential career goals by attending the event. Attendees reported the event provided an opportunity to build problem solving skills, communication skills and the opportunity to network with like-minded peers. Our hackathon supported idea generation however further emphasis on translation of solutions from idea generation to implementation within our healthcare system is needed

    Active community partnerships can be at the heart of experiential education and high-impact practices, and community-based education that communities value can foster long-term community partnerships. This workshop will engage participants in actively exploring Acadia’s Community Development program’s efforts toward reciprocity with community partnerships. We will share the why and what of community partnerships as pedagogy and, more importantly, the how. We will share lessons learned, strategies and practical advice to support asset-based approaches that connect and nourish community organizations, students, and post-secondary institutions

    Where Are You Really From?: A Commentary on Ancestral Black Nova Scotian Identity

    The purpose of this commentary is to discuss Ancestral Black Nova Scotian (ABNS) identity, while advocating for the unified advancement of people of African descent (PAD) in Nova Scotia that is inclusive of ABNSs as a distinct people. I began critically examining identity and contemplating this issue during my doctoral research. As a Black feminist scholar, I have conducted reviews of literature related to PAD in Canada as well as in-depth qualitative research with ABNS nurses. My expertise on this matter is further informed by lived experience and ongoing discussions on intersectionality and Black health with mentors from across the diaspora. The sum of this insight has brought me to a change in the language that I use to describe ABNSs. I was inspired to share this commentary, at this time, for two reasons. The first—and more practical—reason involves my deepening understanding of language and identity and how I apply it in my work. The second—and more political and contentious—reason relates to the attempted erasure of ABNS identity. My position in this commentary is that of an advocate for ABNS identity alongside the unity of PAD in Nova Scotia. I acknowledge the extensive entanglement of identity with other important and multi-faceted issues, such as resource allocation; however, it is critical that these issues are understood as interconnected rather than conflated. For example, resource allocation has become so entangled with identity that the erasure of ABNS identity has become a symbolic master key to unlocking a metaphoric treasure chest. The differences that exist among PAD in Nova Scotia have created a welcomed shift in the demographic composition of the population. These shifts and unique differences mean that PAD in Nova Scotia are not a monolith, and this achievement is one to be acknowledged, celebrated, and embraced
