Raman spectrometry is frequently used in the characterization of such materials. However, when they are ancient and potentially altered, chars have the particularity of being oxidized, which can strongly disturb the spectra and seriously distort their interpretation. L1 PHONOTACTIC CONSTRAINTS MEDIATE PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS OF NON-NATIVE GEMINATION
No full textInternational audiencePrevious studies have revealed that L2 learners whose L1 has contrastive gemination may produce long consonants in an L2 which does not have gemination, due to orthography (e.g., in words with double consonants, such as 'Finnish' vs 'finish'). For the same reason, learners may reject rhymes such as 'very' and 'cherry'. In this study, we confirm that gemination affects the phonological awareness of L1 Italian learners of L2 French, but we find that it is mediated by L1 phonotactics. 24 Italian learners of French and 24 French control speakers participated in a discrimination test where the duration of target consonants was manipulated. Italian learners tended to rate stimuli with a lengthened consonant as different (non-)words, but only in contexts where gemination is licit in Italian. Vice versa, in contexts where gemination is illicit, responses by Italian learners do not differ from those of control French native speakers
On the socio-technical embeddedness of “Weibo florists”: Online marketing discipline and conventions of simplicity prototyping and standard production
No full textInternational audienceIn late 2011, a Shanghai-based flower amateur, offering luxury bespoke bouquets, sparked an entrepreneurial wave of florists on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo. Some business experts have attributed her success to Weibo marketing and storytelling, establishing her as a landmark for e-commerce start-ups. However, from the perspective of the sociology of entrepreneurship, articulating the actor-network theory and the economics of convention, we find that these marketing strategies have been effective because Weibo florists were embedded in the online floral field, where the online marketing discipline based on the business practice of remote flower delivery set the rules of the game. Faced with exponential competition at the time, online florists focused on efficient economies of scale, at the expense of personal interaction with clients. On the other hand, they tended to simplify the prototyping of bouquets to reduce the uncertainty of their quality during floral delivery, while standardizing the production of local florists with whom they collaborated. The marketing discipline and these management conventions have then unexpectedly provided the institutional resources for the entrepreneuriat of Weibo florists
The paradox of Portuguese /Vr/-rhymes: Disentangling weight from length via structure-based sonority
No full textInternational audienceThe assumption that Portuguese stress is weight-sensitive is supported by strong arguments. However, oxytones ending with open syllables remain a major problem for this claim, unless vowels can be independently proved to be heavy without being long. It will be seen how the behaviour of /Vr/-rhymes in European Portuguese, which is not satisfactorily accounted for by standard models, shows that weight and length are distinct aspects, and solves the problem of oxytones. No full textInternational audienceEl artículo intenta caracterizar la crisis endógena de la actual etapa cognitiva del capitalismo enfocándose en la tensión entre el modo de producción y las condiciones de reproducción de la sociedad, en diversificadas esferas. Enfatiza el deterioro tanto del medioambiente, cuanto de la dinámica regresiva económico-social, sanitaria y asistencial. O, en otros términos, entre valor y riqueza escaseando artificialmente bienes que de otro modo serían abundantes mediante la expansión geométrica de la propiedad intelectual. En respuesta a la degradación generalizada de la vida y el planeta, de la producción por y para el capital, los autores proponen una política transicional desde un sistema “commonfare” (o de bienestar ciudadano) a otro basado en el autogobierno de los individuos. Una producción por y para los humaos. En la esfera económica reflexionan sobre la creación de una “moneda de los comunes” combinada con una renta social garantizada hacia la extensión de los principios de la propiedad común (relaciones sociales basadas en el uso, la mutualización de bienes y recursos y la inapropiabilidad) y la consecuente superación de la propiedad intelectual exclusiva, cuyo carácter nefasto exige su futura abolición en sucesivas etapas para desembocar finalmente en lo común como modo de producción
