Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings
No full textInternational audienceA key open question in the study of multi-particle production in high-energy collisions is the relationship between the "ridge'' - observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities - and hard or semi-hard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in collisions at TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of , in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, , are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge
Audre Lorde et bell hooks… la voix(e) poétique et biomythographique
No full textInternational audience« j’écris ma vie et je vis mon oeuvre » (Audre Lorde, I am your sister: Collected and Unpublished Writings of Audre Lorde, p.156). Pour mettre en lumière comment Audre Lorde a construit et pensé l’action militante féministe, je propose un dialogue avec bell hooks, pour qui Audre Lorde a constitué une source d’inspiration pour son oeuvre poétique, pour son militantisme et féminisme. Écrire de la poésie s’impose pour l’une comme pour l’autre de manière vitale et de manière précoce dans leurs parcours biographiques. La poésie est le refuge, l’espace des possibles, notamment de l’invention et réinvention de soi, elles qui se vivent comme des outsiders. Écrire, c’est pour l’une comme pour l’autre donner voix à toutes ces femmes noires silenciées par la société étatsunienne, par l’académie, par les féminismes. Audre Lorde dit écrire « pour ces femmes qui ne parlent pas, qui n’ont pas de verbalisation car elles, nous, sommes si terrifiées, parce qu’on a été socialisées pour respecter plus la peur que nous-mêmes » (I Am Your Sister : Collected and Unpublished Writings of Audre Lorde, p. 161). bell hooks se lance à 19 ans dans la recherche de ces voix recouvertes, tues, ce qui donnera lieu à son premier essai Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism (1981). Écrire, c’est faire communauté/lien par les mots (ce que bell hooks qualifie de solidarité politique, Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center.) plutôt que le crédo féministe, les faux-semblants de la sororité clamée par les féministes étatsuniennes, masquant les intérêts de classe et de race des femmes blanches. Écrire, c’est faire entendre non seulement les voix oubliées, silenciées, mais aussi les expériences et savoirs autres, non reconnus académiquement, des savoirs guérisseurs. S’écrire… inventer ses propres mythologies, c’est la voix(e) biomythographique créée par Audre Lorde (Zami. A New Spelling of my Name. A Biomythography / Zami : Une nouvelle façon d’écrire mon nom) et suivie par bell hooks (Bone Black: Memories of Girlhood, Wounds of Passion: a Writing Life), inspirée également par sa grand-mère maternelle Saru, qui tout en pratiquant l’art du quilt, tissait des mots pour raconter des histoires. L’en-jeu pour l’une comme pour l’autre, par l’écriture notamment poétique, re-naître, s’inventer, gagner en agentivité, s’empouvoirer et participer à empouvoirer (empower) les autres femmes. Leur source sont des ancêtres féminines : pour l’une de l’île de Carriacou, pour l’autre de son Kentucky, notamment Rosa Bell. Elles leur inspirent leurs nouveaux noms et leur choix, l’une de s’installer sur l’île Ste-Croix, l’autre de démissionner de son poste universitaire pour retourner dans les Appalaches de son enfance, qu’elle célèbre dans ses Élégies (2012)

You Can’t Hide Me : An interview with filmmaker Nii Kwate Owoo by Marian Nur Goni
No full textInternational audienceIn the course of this interview carried out on 24 August 2022, Ghanaian filmmaker Nii Kwate Owoo recounts the making and the many lives of his iconic film ‘You Hide Me’. Made in 1970 as his final piece at the London International Film School where he was then enrolled, it has now gained new momentum through the restitution debate. In the film shot in the basement of the British Museum, the filmmaker powerfully challenges the monopoly of the North, which not only unilaterally grants itself the ownership of the objects forcibly extracted from the African continent, but also the authority of the expertise around these objects. A fierce Pan-Africanist activist and intellectual, Nii Kwate Owoo is one of the founding members of the Pan-African Federation of Filmmakers (FEPACI), of which he has been a member since 1969, and is now actively engaged in restitution campaigns in Ghana

Search for heavy long-lived multi-charged particles in the full LHC Run 2 collision data at = 13 TeV using the ATLAS detector
No full textInternational audienceA search for heavy long-lived multi-charged particles is performed using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Data collected in 2015-2018 at = 13 TeV from collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb are examined. Particles producing anomalously high ionization, consistent with long-lived spin-1/2 massive particles with electric charges from to are searched for. No statistically significant evidence of such particles is observed, and 95% confidence level cross-section upper limits are calculated and interpreted as the lower mass limits for a Drell-Yan plus photon-fusion production mode. The least stringent limit, 1060 GeV, is obtained for particles, and the most stringent one, 1600 GeV, is for particles
