Fattening somatic movement: Fat time, epistemology, and performance
Fat bodies in movement are often marked as a “travesty” and met with mockery. Particularly, fat people are commonly constructed as out of place in movement and exercise. Movement such as dancing may be assembled as a form of artistry that fat bodies cannot or should not embody. In particular dancing in a fat temporality that celebrates the ways fat bodies move with flesh, rolls, and marks is seldom celebrated or seen in many spaces. In the frame of resistance, dancing fat embodiment can be a strong form of fat activism that breaks barriers within spaces such as dance.
In this article, our aim is twofold: 1) to locate dance in a fat temporality and epistemology, and 2) introduce and contextualize somatic movement and dance as a choreographic method that aligns with fat temporalities and performance. Dance as a method of fat performance creates fat time where fat bodies can exist in a space often denied for fat people and performers. Specifically, dancing fat creates a temporality where fatness moves through its tempo of being, can resist containment, and stretch boundaries of space. Given the relevance of dance to create fat temporalities, we propose somatic movement as a choreographic method. Somatic dance requires the performer to devise their own choreography, aligning with fat epistemology and knowledge. Further, the power of performing somatic dance in a fat body destabilizes ideals that thin bodies are the only ones relegated to take up space in movement, both in the choreography and performance. Furthermore, devised somatic performances can tell stories, create fat time, and unsettle spaces of power. It is our hope that this chapter outlines the importance of dance in fat performance and offers a distinct choreographic method that values the lived knowledge and experiences of fat people

Rev. Dr. E-K Daufin’s On Fat and Faith: Ending Weight Stigma in Yourself, Your Sanctuary and Society is part memoir, part self-help book, fusing to create a whole that provides readers with fellowship and concrete strategies for uprooting anti-Fatness wherever they find it. The book’s first half is a rich recounting of Daufin’s childhood and academic career, both of which were too often constrained by anti-Fatness and misogynoir. Daufin demonstrates the various ways she has navigated these oppressive systems of thinking, becoming increasingly critical of the one solution society offers: to change oneself. While the book is certainly interested in transformation, the transformation that Daufin recommends is not weight loss, but rather ridding oneself and one’s community of the violent assumptions and systems of anti-Fatness that have for too long permeated our world

Numerical Investigation of flow and heat transfer of impinging jet using converging-diverging air-augmented duct
A numerical study has been conducted to show the effect of converging/diverging air-augmented duct placed at the outlet of a pipe nozzle on the heat transfer of a single impinging jet. It was aimed to increase the air entrainment which will have a superior effect on heat transfer. Hence, investigations were done for Re number range of 3000-20000, H/d=8, L/d=2, e/d=6, l/d=5, and D1/D2 = 0.50 – 1.60. Firstly, results have validated with experimental data from the literature, and a good agreement has been observed. The finding showed that, with the increase in D1/D2 the Nu number increases at the stagnation region. In addition, it was seen that with the decrease in D1/D2 a maximum Nu number region forms
Genetic Algorithm-Based Multi-Objective Optimization of Fast-Charging Parameters of a Lithium-Ion Battery by a Coupled Equivalent Electric Circuit-Heat Transfer Model
Optimization of fast battery charging parameters of electric vehicles is essential for improved reliability and lifecycle. Conventional lithium-ion battery charging mostly adopts constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) method, but continuous and frequent charging may cause accelerated capacity reduction under low temperature conditions, leading to inefficiency and safety issues. This study proposes an optimization strategy for lithium-ion batteries and a charging method in cold environments based on an improved coupled electric-thermal model. A second-order RC equivalent circuit battery model is parameterized by means of hybrid pulse power characteristic (HPPC) experiment and the coupled electric-thermal model of the lithium-ion battery is created. Multi-stage constant current charging (MCC) method not only prevents battery degradation, but also reduces the charging time by increasing efficiency of the charging process at low temperatures compared to the batteries charged with the conventional CC-CV charging method. Therefore, optimized charging strategy will provide a certain theoretical basis for the thermal management of the battery system, ensuring safe charging by limiting the temperature rise during fast charging. This innovative study is expected to contribute to the literature due to the limited published research on battery charging at low environmental temperatures
Numerical investigation of pressure drop in a solar tower’s soiled volumetric air receiver
Cell foams (or porous media) have useful applications in industry, such as compact heat exchangers, thus more papersstudy them to explore their potential use in modern technology. An interesting application of porous media is the openvolumetric receiver of solar tower. The objective of this paper is to study the receiver that will be modeled by porousgeometries, ten consecutive grids will be used to characterize the porosity, two types of geometries are conceived, the firstone consists only of square celled grids, the second one is an alternation of square celled grids and triangular celled gridsthat we called hybrid geometry, this geometry is an original work and results in tortuose turbulent flows. The first typegeometry will be used to study high porosities, inlet velocity boundary conditions are from 0.5 to 15 m/s, the turbulent flowis independent of the meshing thanks to the boundary layer mesh type. The obtained results show that the pressure dropdecreases with increasing porosity which is consistent previous studies from the state of the art
Effect of the Geometry and Nanoparticles Size on the Enhancement of Nanofluid with Variable Proprieties on Natural Convection
In this study, the issue of heat transfer in vertical and horizontal rectangular enclosures filled with Al2O3/Water nanofluid was explored using thermo-dependent thermal conductivity and viscosity. The vertical walls are subjected to uniform heat fluxes and the horizontal ones are adiabatic. The results, obtained through numerical simulations, by means of the finite difference method, showed the influence of different parameters such as aspect ratio, 0.25 ≤ A ≤ 4, nanoparticle size, dp = 13, 29 and 45 nm, and volume fraction, 0 ≤ φ ≤ 0.05, on the heat transfer rate. The outcomes revealed that the use of nanofluids led to an improvement in heat transfer, but only when the aspect ratio was below a certain threshold. Beyond this threshold, pure water performed better in terms of heat transfer than the nanofluid. The critical value for the aspect ratio increased as the size of the nanoparticles increased. Additionally, a larger aspect ratio led to better heat transfer
The Schooling of Peter Pan: Constructs of Gender and Sexual Orientation within Dietetics
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to explore the knowledge, beliefs and experiences of Canadian dietitians relating to gender and sexual orientation diversity within the profession. Our aim is to share some of the knowledge, beliefs and experiences though comic art, a medium that is widely popular and has been used in health knowledge translation to teach about health, health practices and client care practices. Methods: The research conducted was a qualitative poststructural thematic discourse analysis. Sixteen Canadian dietitians were recruited and asked to share their thoughts and experiences and gender and sexual diversity in the profession. Results: Participants spoke of cis-heteronormativity, feelings of not belonging and offered suggestions to create a more inclusive profession. Through a creative collaboration with an artist, a comic was created to share these findings. Conclusion: Dietetic students, educators and practitioners must take an active role in seeking out and modelling learning opportunities to ensure that the profession continues to move toward ensuring a safe and inclusive space for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals
A commentary on Brazilian perspectives of lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic
Background: While the pandemic brought many challenges and disruption to an individual’s life, it also presented individuals with the opportunity to develop coping strategies and seek changes in their lives. Brazilians experiencing that moment disclosed the uniqueness of learned lessons. Methods: A commentary written by the interviewers and transcription team of 93 interviews conducted with Brazilians living in Canada and their relatives living in Brazil, identified trends in the experiential learning acquired during the pandemic. The Bloom’s taxonomy framed the review of team’s insights about learned lessons and newest skills and organization of evidence within the domains of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning. Results: Overall, there was a significant number and diversity of evidence about new learning and successful strategies that the participants implemented that promoted opportunities for learning. Identified evidence was in the affective (n=26), psychomotor (n=11) and cognitive (n=8) domains. Learning occurred in the affective domain which contributed to new self-perception, expanded awareness, new life priorities, renewed humanistic thoughts, increased valorization of time, life, and interpersonal relations. Conclusions: The findings of the lessons learnt from Brazilian participants are significant and highlight the unique perspectives of the positive benefits that resulted from a negative experience due to the pandemic. The significance of this interesting set of evidence indicates that in a near future the multidisciplinary community of scientists may definitively recalibrate the research focus and further explore how individuals learn and react during a pandemic
