Modeling and Simulation of Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzer for Green Hydrogen Production
This research aims to investigate the potential of green hydrogen production using the anion exchange membrane electrolyzer (AEM), which is a cost-effective technique. This study presents a mathematical and process model of a 1MW AEM water electrolyzer using Aspen Plus software. The model is used to determine the optimal operating conditions of the AEM electrolyzer to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy. Specifically, the effects of temperature and electrolyte concentration on the electrolyzer cell performance are examined. The results show that the AEM electrolyzer produces 63 kg/hr of hydrogen with a cell current density of 2.41 A/cm2 and a cell voltage of 2.019 V at an operating temperature of 60oC and a mixed electrolyte flow rate of 100 kmol/hr. The overall capacity factor of the AEM electrolyzer is 90%, and it can produce 445,662 kg of hydrogen annually. The findings show the benefits of the AEM electrolyzer technology as a promising technique for green hydrogen production from renewable energy
Design of Green House with Hybrid Renewable Source
Today, when we are starting to feel the effects of climate change, the transition from fossil fuels to renewable resources has become a necessity. While renewable energy contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases that cause climate change, it also contributes to the energy security of countries due to the locality of the renewable source. The reserves of commonly used resources such as oil and natural gas are decreasing at an alarming rate. It is estimated that oil will not be able to meet the world\u27s energy needs in the coming years. Hydrogen plays an important role in future energy systems. Due to its clean and efficient nature, hydrogen energy is considered a crucial support in building a sustainable society in the midst of global climate change and the upcoming energy revolution. The aim of this study is to search for alternative solutions and to design a hybrid energy system to meet the natural gas, electricity and vehicle fuel needs of a single family home. The system was designed and optimized using the HOMER PRO software. According to the optimization studies, the leveled electricity and hydrogen production costs were found to be $0.562 respectively. With developing technological studies, it is anticipated that the costs of the PV panels used for production will decrease in the coming days. Therefore, a significant reduction in production costs in the project can be expected
Researching the Aspecr Ratio and Instability of the Liquid Metal Under High-Frequency Magnetic Field
The liquid metals are influenced by many factors during the metal melting operations under high-frequency magnetic fields and these cause instabilities of the molten metal. İn the article are researched and analysed the instability of the liquid metal – Galinstan to evaluate the influence of the complex parameters to the instability of the fluid. On the base of the results of the researches are evaluated the physical parameters, which can be the reason of the instability. The researched and analysed information are important to choose the technological parameters and to control the melting process under the influence of the high-frequency magnetic field
A New Approach to Solving the Sound Problem Caused by Cargo Hatch Gasket on Dry Cargo Ship
In commercial ships used in maritime transportation, the noise and vibration performance caused by the main andauxiliary machines are of great importance for the working comfort of the sailors. Mechanical systems operate at a fixedsound pressure level and a certain frequency. Noise and vibrations originating from these sources are transmitted to thespaces inside the ship by structural or airborne transmission. This situation causes disturbing levels of vibration and noiseand adversely affects the occupational health of sailors. In particular, for the past five years, metal foam panels have beenused for sound absorption applications abroad. They absorb sound through scattered reflection and distribute soundenergy through micro-pores and other structures. When porosity is between 1% and 3%, the sound absorption rate ishighest. The sound absorption rate measured by the standing wave method is between 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz and canreach 40% to 80%. In this study, a new gasket design was made, and its potential advantages and disadvantages wereevaluated. In addition, the occupational health and safety of seafarers were evaluated. The effect of exposure to noiseand vibration, which consists of work routines on ships, high risk frequency and high-intensity operations, on work stresshas been analyzed
#InclusiveDietetics: A social media campaign improves beliefs associated with racial and ethnic diversity, equity, and inclusion in the dietetics profession
The nutrition and dietetics profession is neither diverse nor inclusive of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), yet to achieve racial/ethnic diversity, equity, and inclusion (R-DEI), nutrition professionals (educators, preceptors, and professionals) need to understand and care about related issues. However, both a space and curriculum to educate professionals about R-DEI are lacking. Our aim was to understand how knowledge, actions, identity, and experiences are related to beliefs about R-DEI among nutrition professionals. We developed a 20-week curriculum about R-DEI topics using the Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change) and Critical Race Theory. It was delivered in #InclusiveDietetics, a Facebook group, between January and August 2020. Pre- and post-intervention surveys were used to understand participants’ identities, experiences, knowledge, beliefs, actions, and opinions and analyzed using logistical regression, t-tests, and descriptive statistics. Knowledge (p<.05), experiences with racism (p<.01), and being a former Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics member (p<.05) were positively correlated with participants’ beliefs about R-DEI in dietetics (that is, more highly valued R-DEI) while actions were negatively correlated (p<.001). Significant increases in knowledge (p<.01) and beliefs aligned with R-DEI values (p<.01) were observed following the intervention, driven by increases in white participants. A significant increase in opinions aligned with R-DEI values was observed among BIPOC (p<.01), but not white participants following the intervention. The importance of a space for professionals to examine R-DEI is critical to achieve professional equity and the #InclusiveDietetics curriculum may be an effective tool to better align nutrition professionals with R-DEI values
Use of oral squamous cell carcinoma biomarkers: A discussion paper
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common epithelial malignancies of multifactorial etiology linked with considerable mortality and morbidity. Generally, OSCC arises from pre-existing oral lesions quoted as oral potentially malignant disorders. Early diagnosis of OSCC is an attractive strategy to increase the survival rate of patients. Despite the accessibility of prominent diagnostic tools, many factors restrain the successful application of these approaches. The discovery of novel alternative methods to diagnose cancer definitively with higher selectivity and sensitivity has aroused scientific interest. Metabolomics is an unbiased analytical approach for qualitative and quantitative analyses of different metabolites in cells, tissues, or biological fluids and their alterations in response to pathophysiological stimuli. Several coupled techniques, together with chromatographic platforms, have facilitated metabolic profiling and, at the same time, detected cancer biomarkers, which are crucial for an effective treatment process. This overview discusses some of the most recent technological advances in metabolomics and focuses on their application to reveal the underlying causes of OSCC and their potential implications for personalised medicine
Health anxiety and academic performance among undergraduate medical students: A correlational study
Introduction: Health anxiety is commonly overlooked as a distinct issue and a component of anxiety. Its impact on academic performance in university students has not been examined. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between anxiety and academic performance among medical students. Methods: A correlational study involving 600 medical undergraduate students was conducted. Results: Of the 510 students involved in the study results indicate females experienced higher levels of health anxiety than males. The prevalence of health anxiety was 13.34%. A significant association (r = -.157; p=0.002) between anxiety (M=15.31; SD=9.86) and academic performance (M=64.87; SD=7.48) was found. Conclusion: The prevalence of health anxiety among study participants was 13.34% and it was negatively associated with academic performance. Based on the study findings, it is recommended that policies and interventions aimed at educating and managing health anxiety among medical students be incorporated into medical school curriculum
Interactive Nature of Social Media’s Comment Feature: An Analysis of Commenters’ Comments during the #EndSARS Protests in Nigeria
Discussions through interactions between contending parties have been known to have minimised, if not completely resolved, many conflicts, and have nipped numerous others in the bud because people were able to express themselves for others to know their stands on issues. Likewise, new media technologies, ably hinged on the Internet, have further created avenues for more interactions among people in different media ecosystems. Given the variegated attributes of the Internet, most newspapers now have online versions which have provisions for readers to make comments at the end of each story or report. The comment feature of online newspapers and social media gives room for interaction among readers and users, hence, commenters are not only using it to comment on what they consume from the media, but they also use it to react and comment on the comments made by other commenters. This brings about a robust social interaction among the commenters, outside the medium that serves as the source of news or topic of discussion. In October 2020, youth in Nigeria embarked on a protest against police brutality tagged #EndSARS, SARS being the acronym for Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian police. The youth mobilised themselves nationwide through social media and other Internet platforms to hold rallies and protests, with the major protest taking place at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos. It is within this context that this paper looked at the social interaction that took place among commenters who commented in Sahara Reporters, Premium Times, and the online version of The Punch newspaper on the #EndSARS issue. The objectives were to find out how many comments were made in the comment sections of these selected online newspapers as they relate to their reports on #EndSARS; to ascertain how many of the comments were socially interactive, and to determine the extent the comments proffered solutions to police brutality in Nigeria. Grounded in the Social Network Theory, the study utilised content analysis and direct observation methods to gather data for evaluation while coding sheets and coding guide were used as data collection instruments. Findings revealed that commenters were engaged in interactive discussions among themselves when expressing their opinions about the #EndSARS protests. It was also discovered that some of the comments proffered solutions to the issue of police brutality, and how it can be addressed. The paper concluded that the comment feature of social media is another unique avenue for citizens to voice out their opinions, and to reach out to, and engage the “high and mighty” in the society, either within or outside government, they might not be privileged to reach through other means. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that those in government, particularly in developing countries such as Nigeria should pay critical attention to the comment sections of various social media to have an idea of what the populace feel about their polices based on the report about them that citizens read in the media
