Mussolini and the Jews: What Inspired Fascist Anti-Semitic Policy in Italy?
Historically, Italy was considered among the least anti-Semitic states in Europe. Early in his rule, Benito Mussolini was clear in his aversion to anti-Semitism when he declared that there was no Jewish question and opposed the idea of biological racism promoted by the Nazi Party. He widely regarded Jews as being amiable, and worked closely with them in the Fascist party. However, throughout the course of his dictatorship, his treatment and rhetoric concerning the Jewish people drastically changed. This paper examines the history and transformation of Mussolini’s policies toward Italy’s Jewish population. Further discussed are Il Duce’s imperialistic vision and its effect on his racial laws. This paper de-emphasizes the alliance with Nazi Germany as a factor, maintaining that Mussolini’s imperialistic agenda, not influence from Hitler, fuelled the shift toward anti-Semitic policies in Italy

Well-being in the Kindergarten Eating Environment and the Role of Early Childhood Educators
In Ontario, kindergarten children haverecently begun to eat lunch at school with theimplementation of the full-day kindergartenprogram. To date, there are no regulations toaddress the particular needs of young childrenin the school eating environment. Drawing ona year-long three-phase study that followed acohort of 21 children as they transitioned fromfull-day childcare to full-day kindergarten, this study explores the impact of staff trainingand staff relationships on the well-being ofkindergarten students. Findings suggest that thepresence of an early childhood educator (ECE),a minimum staffing of two adults per room, anda collaborative approach between teacher andECE have a positive impact on child well-being
Becoming Garden
This paper is composed of a series of moments that evolved from an inquiry with our community garden plot. This inquiry involved children’s, educators’, and families’ experimentations and processes of “coming to know” the garden. We attempt to grapple with the messiness of a “garden” and the assemblages and binaries that exist within it. We experiment with sitting in our garden as a space not yet defined. Through this process, we found that a community garden is open to a plurality of possibilities. This entangled process of coming to know speaks to the imaginary and involves layers of touching, hearing, seeing, drawing, talking, writing, and storying our garden
