Ebola Virus Epidemic in West AFrica in 2014: Senegal Standing the Test of Global Health Diplomacy
This paper is the culmination of a project done in the context of a diplomacy and global health seminar with the Global Health Center (Graduate Institute) of Geneva on the case of Ebola contamination in Senegal. This project allowed the understanding of the magnitude of the epidemic in West Africa in 2014 with its international implications. Moreover, this project was a personal challenge to lead this reflection through the twofold lens of anthropology and diplomacy in global health, a subject that raises new questions about health as a central issue of human existence. As Dominique Kerouedan (2013) recalls through the introduction to the colloque international of the Collège de France: La santé est un thème de politique étrangère et de diplomatie, en ce qu’elle est devenue dans les relations internationales, plus précisément au fil du temps, un paramètre de pouvoir, d’influence, de sécurité, de paix, de commerce, voire un vecteur de positions géopolitiques ou même idéologiques, pour des Etats cherchant à gagner en importance politique à l’échelle mondiale

Human Folly and Border Fences: Looking to Non-Human Actors at the Indo–Bangladesh Border
The obsession with inter-state territorial borders and the associated paraphernalia of border management and security makes borders and their management a primarily human-centric discourse. This paper makes an attempt at introducing the agency of rivers as non-human actors—or rather as actants—in shaping and managing international borders. The paper looks specifically at the riverine sector of the Indo-Bangladesh border, where the international boundary has been re-negotiated each year by the transnational rivers, primarily the Brahmaputra (also the Gangadhar), through flooding, erosion, and deposition of sediment. By interrogating the role of rivers in shaping the border and border management strategies, the paper argues that humans, despite persisting as the primary agents in border management, are not the only actors. Drawing on Actor Network Theory (ANT), a case is made to appreciate the general symmetry between humans and non-humans as a-priori equal. Incorporating both in an actor-network may provide insights into border management in complex borderlands. 
Coastal Douglas-fir Forest Restoration and Liner Wetland Construction At the Millard Learning Centre on Galiano Island
Galiano Island is a land mass situated within the Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia. Galiano is a sparsely inhabited island and is host to a vast selection of different ecosystems. This island is home to the Galiano Conservancy Association, an organization that oversees an array of protected land areas and trusts, on top of operating their flagship property, the Millard Learning Centre. At over 180 acres, the Millard Learning Centre presents a confluence of educational programming and ecosystem restoration. There are many restoration projects on the property that are completed, ongoing, or planned for the future.
This report outlines a recently completed project that melds a more traditional ecosystem restoration with the creation of a designed ecosystem. Ultimately, we aimed to restore an area of Coastal Douglas-fir forest and to create a pocket wetland. The project site will also serve as an outdoor classroom of sorts, as the site is directly adjacent to the conservancy’s classroom building.
The primary goals of this project were to: restore an area of degraded Coastal Douglas-fir forest that had been previously logged in the 1990s, expand the available wetland habitat on the Millard Learning Centre property, and to provide easy-access wetland viewing for educational purposes.
The planning process included surveying the site through GIS mapping, transit elevations surveys, and soil pit analysis. Based on this information, designs were created. These included the placement of the wetland, the excavation plan of the wetland, and the plant communities that would make up the terrestrial aspect of the restoration.
Several iterations of the design were considered, and we ultimately ended up where we are now through the collaboration of many brilliant and hard-working individuals. Land was excavated to create the wetland basin, the liner was installed, habitat features were placed, and the surrounding area was seeded and planted.
This project was completed in October of 2020, and at the time of this writing, the wetland is already filling with water
