    Get PDF
This mixed method study aims to examine the relationship between big-five personality traits and workplace spirituality from a managerial perspective by analyzing its potential effects on management. In the quantitative step, the cross-sectional survey was employed as the data collection tool, and the data were obtained from a sampling group determined through the simple random sampling technique. Further, the qualitative part of the study was designed as a purposive sampling technique. The quantitative research data were obtained from 238 participants working in a public university in Turkey as lecturers. The qualitative data were obtained by interviewing a group of 11 people from the same sample of participants working as administrators at the same university. The findings indicate that the harmony between the perception of personality structures and workplace spirituality has an important function in the adoption of workplace values by the employees

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the effect of financial deepening on economic growth, income inequality, and poverty rates in 73 countries during the period 1991-2015. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method with panel data regression is used in this study. This study also uses interaction of dummy variable and financial deepening indicators to measure the effect. The results indicate that financial deepening has positive effect on economic growth, but has negative effect on income inequality and poverty rates in 73 countries. Furthermore, financial deepening indicators have significant effect on economic growth in Advances Economies (AEs) and significant effect on income equality and poverty rates in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs). These findings show countries has to be selected in developing its financial sector as it either can have positive or negative effect

CLASSIFICATION RATEMAKING USING DECISION TREE IN THE INSURANCE MARKET OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the impact of risk classification on life insurance ratemaking with particular reference to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The research is based on a sample of over eighteen thousand insurance policies for passenger vehicles collected over the period 2015-2020. In our empirical investigation we develop a standard risk model based on the application of Poisson Generalized linear models (GLM) for claims frequency estimate and Gamma GLM for claim severity estimate. The analysis reveals that GLM does not provide a reliable parameter estimates for Multi-level factor (MLF) categorical predictors. Although GLM is widely used method to deter insurance premiums, improvements of GLM by using the data mining methods identified in this paper may solve practical challenges for the risk models. The popularity of applying data mining methods in the actuarial community has been growing in recent years due to its efficiency and precision. These models are recommended to be considered in BiH and South East European region in general

ROLE OF TRUST IN ADOPTING CONSUMER SOCIAL RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR IN THE CONTEXT OF WATER USE IN DOMESTIC HOUSEHOLDS

    Get PDF
The central theme in this article is Consumer Social Responsibility (CnSR) in the context of sustainable water consumption at home. In this paper, a conceptual SEM model will be tested based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour. This model focuses on the role of trust mediated by CnSR attitude, in influencing water conservation behaviour. Using a sample of 493 respondents, SEM analysis results show that trust in water companies and general trust disposition have significant effect on CnSR attitude. Attitude is approached via environmental, economic and social angle, covering three (triple) mentioned domains of sustainability each with an associated minimum (bottom) required level (line) also known as the Triple Bottom Line (TBL)

REGIONAL POLICY AS A FACTOR IN SHAPING REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN POLAND

    Get PDF
Regional development is firmly rooted in the theory of land management, and today’s considerations and analyses in this area are gaining special importance. The relationship between specific conditions and the observed effects of regional development was considered under various theoretical concepts. Additionally, the interdependence of processes taking place on the international, national and regional level renders it necessary to pursue, inter alia, an effective regional policy. In this study, particular attention was given to the premises and objectives of intentional actions taken both at supra-regional level (inter-regional policy) and regional level (intra-regional policy). The theoretical considerations concerning the regional policy carried out were supplemented with current statistics regarding the development of regions in Poland. The aim of the study is to show the role of regional policy in shaping regional development and to analyse its current state on the basis of own research using multidimensional comparative analysis (MCA) methods. The considerations presented in the article lead to the conclusion that regional policy is an important factor in regional development, and the presented research results allow to assess the current level and diversity of this development in Poland

EXTERNAL DEBT IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA – AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS

    Get PDF
Over the last few decades, many countries in the world have been struggling with high indebtedness. This has been especially emphasized in periods of crisis, and this was not an exception during the last global economic crisis in 2009. The advent of the crisis has further increased the need for borrowing. Increasing indebtedness after the crisis was also characteristic of BiH economy, the country in our research focus, which had an increase of public external debt by over 100% over the last two decades. The paper focuses on the external indebtedness of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) over the period 2004-2017. The empirical part relies on dynamic modelling - Vector Autoregression Model, which is used to explore total external indebtedness. The empirical investigation implies that foreign-trade exchange deficits have had the greatest impact on rising indebtedness in BiH, while movements in EURIBOR interest rates have little influence in explaining this variability. The empirical investigation implies that macroeconomic policy in BiH, if it wants to keep the external debt under control over the longer time horizon, does need to focus on deficits in its foreign exchange more. One of inevitable priorities is to work on supporting production based of export from this economy

IS THERE ALWAYS A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WORKPLACE DIVERSITY AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE, OR DOES DIVERSITY FATIGUE IMPLY A SUPPRESSING EFFECT

    Get PDF
Performance of employees has been a vital matter for all organizations regardless of their sector. As organizations become more diverse, maintaining high performance becomes a challenge. This study examines the relationship between workforce diversity and organizational performance in educational sector of Cyprus through moderating effect of diversity fatigue. Mixed Method is used for the purposes of this study to analyze data from university academic staff, through survey and senior-level interviews (semi-structured). Qualitative measures were used to develop dimensions for diversity fatigue, which further were tested through quantitative approach. Results imply that extent of diversity fatigue can suppress the relationship between overall performance and workforce diversity, which is positive and significant prior to interaction of fatigue. Furthermore, our study expands the literature regarding the topic within educational sector. Managers can have an enhanced decision-making process regarding diverse workforce and degree of fatigue, which yields in a higher performance level for the firm. &nbsp

THE IMPACT OF FOREIGNERS’ TRADES ON EQUITY PRICES: EVIDENCE FROM MACEDONIAN STOCK EXCHANGE

    Get PDF
Emerging countries’ economies are dependent on foreign capital inflows. For policy makers and researchers of particular interest is to understand the nature of these flows and their impact on the domestic capital market. The first significant foreign inflows entered the Macedonian Stock Market at the end of 2004, and stock prices were increased. It was general belief among the investors that foreigners are driving the prices on the Macedonian Stock Market. This study examines the influence of foreign investors’ trades on stock returns in Macedonia using base broadening and price pressure hypotheses. Strong evidence consistent with the base-broadening hypothesis shows that 1% of monthly net inflows as a percentage of last month market capitalization is connected with 7% rise in monthly returns on the Macedonian stock market. The findings do not support the price pressure hypothesis, so the rise in the prices is permanent

ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF BURNOUT SYNDROME ON ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP SATISFACTION: THE DARK SIDE OF WORKPLACE BULLYING

    Get PDF
The present study addressed the issue of whether occupational Burnout Syndrome (BS) is associated with Romantic Relationship Dissatisfaction (RRS) among academics; it was also expected that Workplace Bullying (WPB) moderates the relationship between these variables. A cross-sectional study was conducted by delivering the questionnaire surveys to the recruited sample group of 320 university lecturers from three different universities in Northern Cyprus to test the research hypothesis. Moderated multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. As it was hypothesized, our results indicated a negative association between burnout syndrome and romantic relationship satisfaction; indicating higher levels of burnout might lead to lower romantic relationship satisfaction. However, the proportion of romantic relationship satisfaction total score varied slightly when workplace bullying moderated this relationship. Our findings contribute to different scientific aspects by its valuable implications for researchers, practitioners, academicians, managers, and various organization staffs’ self-awareness
