Global Perspectives on Determinants of Older Adults’ Subjective Well-being: A Comprehensive Longitudinal Study

    No full text
Current research has established a relationship between older adults\u27 subjective well-being and factors extending beyond their economic status to encompass various non-monetary elements. While most studies in this domain focus on factors within a single country, our analysis utilizes international longitudinal surveys to explore older adults\u27 well-being at both the national and global scale. This comprehensive analysis considers micro- and macro-level determinants of retirement well-being, revealing consistent variations in happiness levels across countries. Our study specifically suggests a compelling positively relationship between ago and subjective well-being within the United States. This finding presents a contrast with the negative association observed in European countries. Our global analysis further indicates a positive relationship between age and subjective well-being. This study not only contributes to greater understanding of the complexities related to aging and well-being but also provide significant implications for financial services professionals and public policymakers that aim to improve the well-being of elderly populations

Artificial Intelligence in Accounting, Medicine, and Law with Potential Implications for Financial Planning: A Review of Literature

    No full text
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping multiple fields. Generative AI is a type of AI that can create new content or information from scratch, rather than simply manipulating or organizing existing data. This has the potential to revolutionize the way that financial advisors interact with clients and manage their businesses. However, there are many unknowns as it relates to the level and degree of disruption that Generative AI can bring to financial planning. Therefore, this paper explores the interaction of AI with financial planning, drawing insights from the practices of accounting, medicine and law. While the primary focus remains on financial planning, this interdisciplinary approach aims to enrich understanding and examines parallels and emerging trends across diverse professional domains. Each of the four professions integrates client needs, preferences and goals into their decision-making processes

A Dynamic Analysis of the Impact of Household Portfolio Allocation Decisions on the Demand for Life Insurance

    No full text
Prior research on the demand for life insurance in household portfolio holdings has not made a clear distinction between portfolio shifts resulting from active allocation decisions and those resulting from passive acceptance. Our study examines the relationship between household portfolio allocation decisions and the demand for life insurance in a dynamic setting, using panel data before and after the 2008 financial crisis. The study provides the first evidence that household decisions to invest in cash and cash equivalents, bonds, retirement assets, and pay off debts significantly affect life insurance ownership

Altruistic Bequests: Giving Motive and Receipt Expectation Using the 2019 Survey of Consumer Finances

    No full text
This study uses Altruistic Bequest Theory to update research by Kao et al. (1997) exploring the factors driving the giving and receiving of bequests using data collected from the 2019 Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF). Altruistic variables demonstrated significant, although at times weak, relationships across the three categories of the analysis (bequest versus no bequest, bequest versus maybe bequest, maybe bequest versus no bequest). Alternatively, results show economic, attitudinal, and sociodemographic variables as the main drivers for the giving and receiving of bequests

Unfolding the Community Engagement Narratives of Three Universities Using a Discourse Analysis Approach

    No full text
Although a large body of literature discusses the advancement of community engagement in higher education, a less substantial body of scholarship explores how engagement is promoted and institutionalized within universities. In this exploratory study, using a discourse analysis of official reports posted on the websites of three university cases, the qualitative results unfolded how community engagement was institutionalized. The study identified some of the basic mechanisms social language uses to create institutions within institutions, like university engagement. The study provided data to support the theoretical assumption that language, through a host of possible configurations of texts, generates discourses that engender social actions such as institutionalization. Those processes disclosed how engagement was produced, and it is still evolving. Further research strategies are discussed

Academic Community-Engaged Learning and Student Mental Health and Wellness: Understanding The Lived Experiences of Undergraduate Students

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to illuminate the experiences of undergraduate students who participated in academic community-engaged learning, specifically as those experiences related to student mental health and wellness. The data for this qualitative interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was collected through semistructured interviews with seven undergraduate students. Analysis resulted in the identification of essential components of the student community-engaged learning experience as it relates to students’ mental health and wellness and included three main themes: Identity (Head), Belonging (Heart), and Agency (Hands). The implications of these findings are many, including pedagogical considerations for community-engaged classrooms and campuswide considerations for the inclusion of high-impact practices, as well as community partner implications. Ultimately, the findings of this study will lead to a better informed, nuanced, macrolevel strategy that higher education institutions can use to impact the state of student mental health and wellness broadly
