The world scout movement, including the Polish scout movement refers to a lesser or even to an orthodox extent to the pedagogical ideas and assumptions of Scouting by Robert Stephenson Baden-Powell and the successors of his pedagogics. In the article I respond to the question, to what extent does contemporary pedagogical thought refer to the phenomenon of scout movement education? Can we speak of the pedagogy of scouting or rather of scouting pedagogics? These issues cannot be solved solely on the level of normative models if one would not reach to former studies without indicating the necessity of conducting a scientific turn in this regard. The world scout movement, including the Polish scout movement refers to a lesser or even to an orthodox extent to the pedagogical ideas and assumptions of Scouting by Robert Stephenson Baden-Powell and the successors of his pedagogics. Special pedagogy at a crossroads. Perspectives of contemporary special pedagogy
Grażyna Dryżałowska, Special pedagogy at a crossroads. Perspectives of contemporary special pedagogy. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, no. 25, Poznań 2019. Pp. 105-125. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X. DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.25.05
The article is an attempt to reflect on the difficult situation in which special pedagogy was found. It is more difficult than the crisis that took place after 1989, because the fascination with the idea of normalisation and integration is gradually decreasing, and there is no new concepts for the further development of special education as a scientific sub-discipline obliged to respond to modern challenges.Grażyna Dryżałowska, Special pedagogy at a crossroads. Functioning of inclusion classrooms in the opinion of parents – organization, teacher training, individualized instruction and social relations
Dominika Przybyszewska, Functioning of inclusion classrooms in the opinion of parents – organization, teacher training, individualized instruction and social relations. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, no. 24, Poznań 2019. Pp. 83-108. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X. DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.24.05
Inclusive education is one of the available forms of education for students with disabilities in Poland. Inclusion classrooms have fewer student and an additional teacher assistant. The schools in which this type of education takes place should meet a number of requirements. They start with the infrastructure and available teaching aids, and end with the teacher training and the availability of specialists. However, these are only prerequisites. In addition to them, the attitude of teachers and their training, the atmosphere prevailing in the school and the relations between students are important. All these elements are components on which success depends. The article presents the opinions of parents whose children attend such classes. Their voice is consistent with the results obtained by other researchers and the reports of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK)- there are no teaching aids, it isnot always possible to talk to specialists (staff shortages), the individualization used in working with students is insufficient, and the relations in classes are only seemingly good.Dominika Przybyszewska, Functioning of inclusion classrooms in the opinion of parents – organization, teacher training, individualized instruction and social relations. The role of sketching within the process of creative maturation of an architect in 21st century – sketching from nature in cognitive development
In the XXIst century, there is a debate whether an architect should practise freehand drawing. This article covers statements about both advantages and drawbacks concerning this activity. Firstly, sketching remains an universal and timeless medium in cognitive development for artists, due to its engagement with various types of deep concentration at once, such as: practical, theoretical, aesthetic or scientific attention focus. What is more, through the medium of freehand drawing from nature, an architect is introduced to experience natural and build environment, by both reason and physical presence in a setting. In addition to this, there is a strong resemblance of methods within cognitive and creative process of an architectural design. On the other hand, the concepts of artistic freedom and genius, which appeared in XXth century, seem to strongly support the idea, that there is a little or no purpose of learning, development, and practise for an artist. Apart from that, recently there happen to be a common belief that manual methods lose their importance in an era of super fast and precise technology or hyper-realistic visualizations and simulations. Freehand drawing fails to reach the standards of the temporary definition of an ideal. If other qualities of manual techniques remain unrecognised, such methods could be abandoned, lose popularity and recognition. These and other controversiesconcerning freehand drawing are presented and discussed In conclusion, to show XXth and XXIst century’s approach towards this problem several architectural studios and their methods are introduced. Among many others there are modern architects: Peter Zumthor, Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, Alvar Aaltoand Frank Gehry, that provide numerous examples of drawings, paintings, studies and sketches from nature. Moreover they emphasize the crucial role of manual techniques within architectural design too. To summarise there is a quotation from Alvar Aalto with a remark about this topic: It is not through simple sketches and superficial similarities that they [painting, sculpture, architecture] influence each other, but through “materia”: an intellectual analysis of the chosen material. In the XXIst century, there is a debate whether an architect should practise freehand drawing. The Significance of Qualitative Research – Arts-based Research in Special Needs Education and Music Therapy
One of the functions of art is understanding an individual and his or her potential. Art provides an individual with proper conditions and gives new opportunities to function regardless of one’s age and disability. The purpose of this article is to get the reader acquainted with the significance of qualitative research especially in the context of arts-based research in special needs education and music therapy. In theoretical part, the authoress will attempt to answer the question of what benefits this research method brings and why it is useful. What is to be described at the beginning quite extensively is the situation of research in special education and music therapy as a scientific discipline. This presentation will smoothly lead the reader to the essence of article, i.e. the arts-based research method. The definitions of arts-based research will be presented together with differences resulting from defining the notions connected with art. Examples will also be provided of research based on art resulting from the combination of two disciplines such as special needs education and music therapy. Moreover, the authoress will demonstrate her own research based on art with the application of music which emphasizes the significance of changes that occur within the music therapy process. Finally, the arguments which emphasize the significance of artsbased research will be mentioned. One of the functions of art is understanding an individual and his or her potential. Niewidzenie a kompetencje pragmatyczne w komunikacji
The paper argues that gaps in knowledge attested in congenitally blind individuals may negatively affect their performance in foreign language tasks testing reading comprehension. Characteristics of a blind learner at various stages of cognitive and educational development are presented, with focus on gaps in knowledge resulting from sight impairment. The concept of pragmatic competence is first explained generally in reference to communication and then it is applied to a case of a comprehension task taken from an EFL exam (Polish “matura”, basic level). An analysis of the text indicates that despite being relatively simple in linguistic terms, comprehension tasks may pose a significant processing challenge to blind students due to a large amount of implicitly communicated information dependent on visual experience. The paper argues that gaps in knowledge attested in congenitally blind individuals may negatively affect their performance in foreign language tasks testing reading comprehension. Sex education of adolescents with autism spectrum disorders in Poland
Anna Gulczyńska, Aneta Wojciechowska, Sex education of adolescents with autism spectrum disorders in Poland. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, no. 24, Poznań 2019. Pp. 155-176. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X.DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.24.09
The aim of this article is to present the results of research into how mothers of individuals with ASD perceive school sex education. The article aims to contribute to the discussion on the need to introduce changes in the Polish education system as far as the area of sexuality is concerned. The study was carried out in two parts, at time intervals. The results were obtained only from mothers, which corresponds with the conclusion that mothers talk about matters of sexuality more often than fathers do and with daughters rather than with sons. The results indicate that mothers want to influence the sex education of their children, at the same time having no knowledge of what topics they are pursuing or can pursue with their child during formal sex education at school (education for living in a family).Anna Gulczyńska, Aneta Wojciechowska, Sex education of adolescents with autism spectrum disorders in Poland.
