Andrei Sheptyts’kyi has been the object of interests of scholars in Poland of both Polish and Ukrainian origin. Polish studies on metropolitan Andrei Sheptyts’kyi have begun form publications of historical sources. Th ey have been prepared by scholars who have performed fi rst analysis of facts connected with his life and activity. Th e most important Polish researches on metropolitan started aft er 1989/1990. Since then a number of monographies concentrating on various aspects of his activity have been prepared. However, a majority of Polish publications on the topic have been single papers each dealing with a particular problem of Sheptyts’kyi’s life and thought. Th ose have rarely been continued by their authors. Further research on metropolitan requires more eff ective cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian historians in order to propose the most complementary picture of Sheptyts’kyi’s personality.Andrei Sheptyts’kyi has been the object of interests of scholars in Poland of both Polish and Ukrainian origin. In this article I argue that contemporary researchers in the Lodz historiographic center try to remain faithful to “the historiographic testament” of M. H. Serejski and his disciples. Th e texts of A. Brzezinska, J. Kolbuszewska, R. Stobiecki reveal the continuation of “classical” patt erns of historiographical research. Chronologically, they primarily concern the Polish historiography in the second half of the 19th and in the 20th century and the historiography in other countries – Russia and France – in the 20th century. In contrast to previously published works, our studies focus more oft en on the widely-understood contemporaneity. In particular we are researching women’s history (J. Kolbuszewska, R. Stobiecki), historical anthropology (A. Brzezińska), and the memory and politics of history (R. Stobiecki). In this article I argue that contemporary researchers in the Lodz historiographic center try to remain faithful to “the historiographic testament” of M. H. Serejski and his disciples. Th e development of the history of historiography in Poland was inspired by Marceli Handelsman, a professor at the Warsaw University in 1915-1939. Aft er World War II, his students Marian Henryk Serejski and later Andrzej Feliks Grabski and Andrzej Wierzbicki - employees of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw – developed research describing the impact of contemporary culture, current beliefs and political trends on historical research. Today, in the Warsaw group of historians, that research work is continued by Zbigniew Romek and Marcin Wolniewicz.Th e development of the history of historiography in Poland was inspired by Marceli Handelsman, a professor at the Warsaw University in 1915-1939. By distancing ourselves from the previous ways of thinking about non- academic forms of history within history of historiography and methodology of history, I suggest using cultural anthropology in the research. In my opinion that its traditional fi eld of study, e.g. the common sense, remains closely related to the study of history of historiography and methodology of history on non- academic forms of history.By distancing ourselves from the previous ways of thinking about non- academic forms of history within history of historiography and methodology of history, I suggest using cultural anthropology in the research. Historians of historiography who seek new possibilities to research the historiographic phenomena believe that the traditional historiography has also become obsolete in its academic form. Th ey think of methods that would allow building a coexistence of the traditional model of historiographic research, which has been simplifi ed to erudite research and presentation of historians – masters with a concept that respects the dynamics of historic thinking, included within the contexts of a political, ideological, and social epoch. Th e latt er task requires from historians of historiography signifi cantly developed professional competences within the scope of sociology, philosophy, and psychology.Historians of historiography who seek new possibilities to research the historiographic phenomena believe that the traditional historiography has also become obsolete in its academic form. The historical research community in Zielona Góra was took shape aft er 1945. In the town newly incorporated into Poland, historians were the fi rst scholars to undertake research activities. It was in 1971 that an academic institution, able to educate historians, was established. The early studies on the history of historiography in Zielona Góra are associated with Kazimierz Bartkiewicz (1930–2002), who since the 1980s had been working on the Polish historiography of the Enlightenment and the problems of the Oder region in Polish historiography. He was succeeded in this field by Dariusz Dolański, who studied the image of the West and the East in the Polish historiography of the 18th century. The most important works of both scholars were inspired by the historical research community of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, especially by Prof. Jerzy Topolski. A milestone in the development of historiographic studies at the University of Zielona Góra was the establishment of the Department of History of Science and Culture in 2007. Th e research projects in the Department have produced so far a number of MA theses devoted to the history of historiography and historical memory, as well as Anna Janczys’ PhD dissertation devoted to Joachim Lelewel. Moreover, as a part of the research carried out in the Department, Andrzej Gillmeister published a monograph on Tadeusz Zieliński. Gillmeister’s main research interests are ancient history and the 20th century historiography of the former. The historical research community in Zielona Góra was took shape aft er 1945.
