Corrective feedback in French as a foreign language writings
Get PDFThe purpose of this paper is to identify the objectives pursued by teachers whencorrecting learners writings and show that the type of feedback used to this end is essentially the direct feedback, while other forms of feedback, presented here, are neglected. In the media, including online, you can find a numerous articles on the subject. Titles in the press show that the German public is very concerned about this state of affairs. The headlines already leave no illusions that the German language is displaced in the scientific research by the English language. Are we dealing with the birth of new lingua franca? Based on selected titles I tried to show how far they correspond with the content of the article. Get PDFThis paper examines the position of contemporary Scottish crime fiction in the Polish polysystem. It investigates the definition of tartan noir and the challenges the genre poses in translation.Such concerns seem especially valid in the case of Denise Mina in whose Paddy Meehan series, next to the female protagonist, one of the most important characters is the city of Glasgow with its menacing architecture and the coarse language of its inhabitants. Thus the second part of this paper analyses the Polish translations of Mina’s trilogy in order to show how the dialect and other culture-specific items have been dealt with by two Polish translators

Get PDFTeaching and learning research appears to be both a suitable and sustainable means to achieve an up-to-date competence for university students in applied linguistics. The understanding of and dealing with new multimodal ‘glocal’ semiotic systems and codes has thus emerged as a new core competence in that field. Since formal educational institutions still adhere to traditional contents, goals and methods, it has turned out to become necessary to focus on informal learning, especially when experienced in subcultures. This approach will lead to acquiring better sociosemiotic competences.
