Multimodal scaffolding in enhancing EFL writing: Integrating TikTok videos and text outlines
The rapid growth of digital media in education has placed TikTok as a potential multimodal platform to support writing instruction. This study examined the integration of TikTok videos with narrative text outlines in enhancing EFL students’ writing skills and their perception of this instructional framework. A pre-experimental design involving a one-group pre-test, post-test, and a descriptive survey was employed, involving 32 students of the English Education Program who programmed a Text Type Writing Course. Writing narrative tests and a Likert scale questionnaire were the instruments of this research. The test data were analysed using the non-parametric Wilcoxon, and questionnaire data using descriptive statistical analysis. The statistical results showed that the mean score of the post-test (77.29) was higher than the pre-test (45.22). A Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test further demonstrated a statistically significant increase in students’ writing skill, which an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is less than the 0.05 significance level, confirming the effectiveness of the instructional intervention. These were also reinforced by survey findings that the instruction framework enabled the students to generate and organise their ideas grammatically, chronologically, and also stimulated their creativity in composing narrative texts. In addition, the survey also revealed that the students experienced positive emotions, increased motivation, and gained meaningful learning experiences. Overall, this pedagogical integration enhanced writing achievement, affective engagement, and simultaneously elevated students’ digital literacy and 21st century skills. This study contributes to a practical and innovative framework for English as a foreign language (EFL) writing pedagogy and develops a theoretical perspective on multimodal literacy
The role of peer tutoring and authentic assessment in developing junior high school students’ English-speaking skills
The primary issue in this study is junior high school students’ low English-speaking skills, which are brought on by a lack of vocabulary, communication anxiety, and conventional teacher-centered learning methods that only concentrate on grammar. This study investigated into how students\u27 speaking skills was influenced by combining peer tutoring and authentic assessment techniques. In order to get a comprehensive picture of effectiveness, a mixed method was employed, which blends qualitative and quantitative methodologies using correlational study. As many of 178 students of seventh graders of Junior High School in Serang District as the research population with sample of 69 students (grades VII-A and VII-C) was chosen by simple random sampling. A Questionnaires, interviews, observations, and speaking performance evaluation rubrics with both linguistic and non-linguistic components were used as data gathering tools. The research results show that the integration of peer tutoring and authentic assessment has a positive and significant effect on students\u27 speaking skills (F-count= 35.953; Sig.<0.05) with an R Square value of 0.521 or 52.1%. The implications of this research provide pedagogical alternatives for teachers to create participatory, communicative, and student-centered learning to prepare practical competencies in the real world
Beyond uniformity: Enhancing students’ writing performance through differentiated instructions integrated with gallery photos
In teaching Writing, usually teachers give the same instructions to all students, that caused the students’ low motivation and generic written output. Therefore, this study aims to explore the implementation of integration between differentiated Instructions (DI) and gallery photos (GP) on students\u27 writing performance. Mixed methods used in this study with descriptive qualitative was used to find out how the implementation of integrated DI and GP as well as the teacher’s reflection, while to find out the effect on students’ writing, experimental design was used. This study was conducted in SMPN 1 Dampit, Indonesia, with 64 students of Eighth-grade students focused on recount text. The instruments used were tests, observation, interview, and the teacher’s journal reflection. Observation was done to find out how the implementation of the integration of DI and GP, and an interview was conducted with six students from different readiness groups. Besides, to see the significant effect of DI and GP on students’ writing performance, a t-test was calculated. The findings show that the integration of DI and GP effectively improve students’ writing performance and raise students’ engagement in the writing process. These findings can be applied to diverse students in a class that needs special treatment for each student without ignoring their proficiency levels, interests, and learning styles. It is suggested to future researchers to explore the effectiveness of this treatment to know further the effect of the integration of DI and Gallery Photo on different levels of the students
A systematic literature review on the challenges of conducting reading comprehension assessment in senior high school
Mastering reading skills is really important to gain knowledge or to discover information from written text. In the classroom setting, the teacher needs to conduct an assessment to measure students\u27 comprehension of reading. Assessment of reading comprehension includes methods and techniques intended to show how effectively students can read, understand, interpret, and analyze a variety of texts. The purpose of the study is to reveal the challenges faced by teachers in conducting reading comprehension assessments, both in online and face-to-face assessments. The research design of this study is a systematic literature review which applied PRISMA method. The sources of the data were taken from the articles published in journals that are indexed in SINTA. Several criteria of inclusion to the related topic of study are the relevant papers of reading assessment, papers published in 2020-2025, articles only without books or proceedings, and the content of the articles. Furthermore, the researchers analyzed the data using the cluster method, where the classification of the challenges is based on the principles in conducting assessment; validity, reliability, practicality, authenticity, and washback effect. As the result, many teachers design tests without aligning them with the course objectives. Construct validity is further undermined by unsuitable tests, which include activities that do not evaluate comprehension, unclear instructions, and an insufficient difficulty level. Reliability issues also arise due to weak item discrimination, inconsistent scoring rubrics, subjective teacher judgement, and environmental distractions that affect students’ performance. Practicality becomes another major concern as teachers face large class sizes, limited preparation time, administrative burdens, and difficulties in administering the score. Authenticity and the washback effect also contribute to assessment problems. Many reading tests failed to reflect real-world tasks or specific language used for vocational students. Teachers struggle to design authentic materials connected to students’ majors, reducing the meaningfulness of the assessment tasks. Negative washback effect occurs when outdated test formats provide little support for comprehension and skill improvement, demotivate learners, and limit opportunities for personalized feedback, especially in online classes. However, this study provided a brief view for the test makers to avoid the same challenges in developing the similar assessment
ESG Disclosure, Intellectual Capital, and Firm Financial Performance: The Role of Board Gender Diversity as a Moderator
This study examines whether ESG disclosure and intellectual capital affect Indonesian banks’ financial performance and whether board gender diversity (BGD) moderates these effects. Panel data from 14 IDX-listed banks during 2019–2023 (n = 70 firm-year observations) were analyzed using a Random Effect Model and Moderated Regression Analysis in EViews 12. ROA represents financial performance; ESG is a GRI-based disclosure index; intellectual capital is measured by VAIC; and BGD is the proportion of female directors. Results show ESG disclosure improves ROA (β = 0.010735; t = 2.199; p = 0.031), whereas intellectual capital is negative and not significant (β = −0.000196; t = −0.112; p = 0.911) and BGD has no significant direct effect (β = −0.015360; t = −1.292; p = 0.201). The baseline model explains modest variation in ROA (R² = 0.093; adjusted R² = 0.052). Interaction tests indicate that BGD strengthens the ESG–ROA link at the 10% level (βESG×BGD = 0.080093; p = 0.055) and significantly strengthens the intellectual capital–ROA link (βIC×BGD = 0.022174; t = 2.762; p = 0.007), suggesting gender-diverse boards help convert sustainability transparency and knowledge-based resources into profitability. The study contributes to Resource-Based Theory and Stakeholder Theory by showing that governance diversity is a boundary condition for realizing performance payoffs from ESG disclosure and intellectual resources in an emerging-market banking context. Practically, banks should enhance ESG reporting quality, improve intellectual-capital efficiency, and increase female representation in boards and key committees to strengthen oversight and strategic use of intangible assets. Overall, the findings highlight inclusive governance as a strategic lever to amplify the financial benefits of ESG disclosure and intellectual capital in Indonesian banking

The effect of combined Benson relaxation and isometric therapy on fatigue in hemodialysis patients
Introduction: Chronic fatigue is a common symptom of chronic kidney disease (CKD), a progressive and life-altering illness that severely reduces a patient\u27s capacity to function normally and their overall quality of life. Although non-pharmacological interventions such as isometric exercises and Benson relaxation therapy have individually shown benefits in reducing fatigue among haemodialysis patients, evidence regarding their combined use remains limited. Further research is therefore needed to determine whether applying these strategies together offers additional benefit in managing fatigue. Objectives: To examine the effect of combining isometric exercise and Benson Relaxation Therapy on fatigue among haemodialysis patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with two nonrandomized groups (n=19 each) used a pre-test–post-test control design. Stage 5 CKD patients (≥15 years, haemodialysis ≥2/week) were included, excluding those with severe comorbidities, infections, or psychotropic use. The intervention group received a combined protocol of Benson Relaxation Therapy (15–20 minutes) and isometric exercises (15–20 minutes). Fatigue (FSS) was analysed using Wilcoxon signed-rank and Mann–Whitney U tests. Results: Fatigue in the intervention group decreased from a median (IQR) of 45.0 (19.75) to 39.5 (18.25), Δ = −5.5, while the control group slightly increased from 50.0 (12.0) to 52.5 (11.0), Δ = +2.5. The difference between groups was significant (p < 0.001).Conclusions: This study demonstrates that combining Benson Relaxation Therapy and Isometric Exercise effectively reduces fatigue in CKD patients undergoing haemodialysis, supporting the integration of holistic, evidence-based, non-pharmacological interventions into nursing practice to enhance physiological adaptation and overall patient well-being
Pengaruh pemaafan terhadap kesejahteraan psikologis remaja tanpa peran ayah
Psychological well-being plays an important role in adolescent growth. Adolescents at a psychologically vulnerable age need the full support of their parents, especially their fathers. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of forgiveness on the psychological well-being of adolescents without a father’s involvement. This study used a quantitative approach with convenience sampling. The data used in this study were collected from 299 respondents using Mccullough’s Transgression Related InterpersonalMotivation Scale (TRIMS-18) and Ryff and Keyes’ Psychological Well-Being Scale. Data analysis was performed using simple linearregression tests. The results of this study show that there is a significant effect of forgiveness on the psychological well-being of adolescents without father’s involvement, with a significance value of p=0,000 (p=<0,05) and an R Square of 0.166. The findings from this study indicate that forgiveness plays a role as a psychological factor that can support the improvement of psychological well-being in adolescents who grow up without a father figure. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for consideration inthe development of psychological counseling and intervention for adolescents in similar circumstances
Fostering 21st-century skills: a phenomenological study of problem-solving development through coding extracurriculars
The problem-solving skills of elementary school students are still a major challenge in 21st century education, especially in the digital era. This study aims to analyze the development of students\u27 problem-solving skills through Scratch-based extracurricular coding at SD Islam Al-Azhar 10 Serang. Using a qualitative case study method with 25 students as subjects, data was collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, which were analyzed using the interactive model Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results of the study revealed that there is a paradox of implementation, where students are more dominant in the indicators of plan implementation (67%) and evaluation of results (62%), but still low in the indicators of problem identification (51%) and plan preparation (49%). These findings show that extracurricular coding is effective in building students\u27 technical skills and perseverance, but is not optimal in developing conceptual and reflective independence. This study highlights the need for transformation in learning models to optimize the development of algorithmic thinking skills and independent problem solving. A more interactive and student-centered approach is needed to encourage more in-depth high-level thinking skills
The development of animated videos for teaching refusal speech act
This study explores the development of animated videos for teaching refusal speech acts. It employs a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, limited to the Analysis, Design, and Development stages (Sugiyono, 2016). The research was carried out at the English Study Program of Universitas Riau during the 2023/2024 academic year. The participants included 39 students as research subjects and three expert validators representing media, material, and teaching expertise. Data were gathered through need analysis interview and questionnaires. The results revealed that students exhibited a strong preference for animated videos (84.6%) compared to conventional media. Lecturer’s interview showed that animated videos were needed to increase engagement and support students’ understanding of refusal expressions in diverse contexts. Validation results from experts indicated that the developed videos were rated as “very valid”, with average scores of 4.31 out of 4 for media design, 4.56 out of 4 for pedagogical aspects, and 4.95 out of 4 for material quality. Students’ responses further supported the feasibility of the videos, with average score of 80.19% for video 1, 80.06% for video 2, categorized as “feasible”, and 81.48% for video 3, categorized as “very feasible”. Overall, the findings suggest that animated videos serve as a very valid and feasible instructional medium for enhancing students’ pragmatic competence, particularly in refusal speech acts. These results also underscore the potential of animated videos media as valuable educational resources for teaching refusal speech act
